I can go about 20 minutes. I completely understand and agree with wearing masks. I wear them.
However I feel panicky as breath from my nose and mouth circulates into the fabric.
Im confused by people who say "it's no big deal" though. I feel so uncomfortable but mostly so paniky and claustrophobic.
If I have to shop longer, I always find an ailse where no one is or leave my cart to go outside to pull my mask down for a moment.
Do you mean the inconvenience is a small price to pay or does it really not *feel* bad?

Eight hours, I’m a nurse. I get that some people have anxiety and panic with a mask though. Have you tried the disposable surgical masks?

If I go back to work in August (school) it’ll be all day. And I’ll do it because it’s what’s necessary.

As long as I can remain cool (temp wise), I can keep them on for many hours. Once I start to overheat and/or if it's really hot out, then that's when I feel claustrophobic. There have been a few times that I had to walk away just so I could vent my mask or risk passing out.

I started back to work a couple weeks ago doing data collection in stores. Each store takes around 3 hours, masked the whole time, then I have a break from the mask while I drive to my next stop. I suffer from claustrophobia in general, but for me the mask doesn't trigger it. My main problem with the mask is that some of the stores are hot, and as I move around working the mask contributes to my overheated feeling. All the drinking fountains are turned off in the stores, and I don't want to carry a water bottle with me because of the extra weight as I work.
Wearing a mask for the length of a regular shopping trip really doesn't bother me. Maybe because I'm not really thinking about the mask? I'm so focused on things like what's next on the list and not forgetting things. The only time I really think about the mask is when I'm putting it on in the car and getting it adjusted just right. Or if I have mask breath!

I have a few different masks and the ones with the thicker, heavier fabric are easier for me to breathe in than my thinner fabric mask, I avoid using that one unless I need to wash my other ones. If anything my ears start to bother me from the elastic than the breathing. I do not touch the mask or pull it away from my face in stores because that defeats the purpose of wearing a mask, even if no one is around. I don’t touch my mask until I’m back in my car and have used hand sanitizer and can place my mask in a paper bag.

I think the longest I have worn one is an about hour for grocery shopping. Usually I make shorter trips and the max is about 30 minutes. I could wear it longer but I haven’t had a need. I am lucky that I don’t feel panicked wearing it - that would suck. I do feel relief peeling it off once I get in my car, though! Since I work from home I can’t think of situations where I would need to wear one longer than a shopping trip so I am glad about that. I do agree some are more comfortable than others. I did wear a disposable one the other day because I forgot my regular ones and that was in my car as a backup- it did feel much lighter. Also made me wonder if it was as effective, though.

The longest I’ve had to wear one so far was 3 hours. It didn’t bother me as much as I feared it would. Once I found one that fit well, I’ve been good.
A manufacturing company here in Columbia is producing protective face shields, and my youngest daughter’s school has started using them for summer meetings and that sort of thing. I think they may have the students wear them when school resumes in August. Here’s a snippet from an article about the company:
This new design, called the ZShield Flex, is geared specifically towards salon owners, restaurant employees, and those in the service industry. The front of the shield can be flipped up and down, and it’s unlike a traditional face shield because it clasps around your neck instead of your head, similar to a necklace. The clear design also allows one to see people’s facial expressions and communicate more clearly.

I had a lovely pea send me a couple of masks that were great, but my glasses would fog up. It's taken me trying 3 different masks from etsy makers/sellers to find my go-to. I've since ordered 3 more of that style, and have recommended them to several friends, two of whom have also ordered. If you haven't tried different vendor's styles, I'd give that a go. Good luck! ETA: I wore mine the other day for a 2 hour + beach walk with 3 other friends (my first outing with more than one other person). They were all complaining and readjusting their masks. I was not. That's about the longest I have worn one so far.

I find them much, much more comfortable than any of the homemade ones or even the buffs that I wear outside. If it's cool, I really don't have any trouble wearing it. I don't think anything helps when it's 90+ degrees out and you're wandering around the nursery.

Indefinitely. I kind of like them. They are one more barrier between me and other people. It feels kind of like a security blanket. But, I have always had boundary issues with people and anything that feels like I am keeping them at bay is a plus. I find if I am wearing a mask, people naturally give me more space than if I weren't.

My kids 20 and 17 both work in grocery stores and they can wear them 8 hours at a time. Ds wears glasses and got some anti fog spray that works. DD is a type 1 diabetic and has had no problems. I haven't really been anywhere where I have had to wear one longer than about an hour. I seem to get a hot flash every time I wear one but I get hot flashes a lot lately so I don't think it is because of the mask.

I tend to get overheated and lightheaded if I wear them too long. I just find an aisle by myself, pull it down, take a few deep breaths, and put it back. It’s not ideal, but it’s the best I can manage. I try not to go out more than necessary anyway. I try not to be inside anywhere long enough to get to that point.
My Dad just moved here with a week’s notice (job transfer). I had to be their hands and feet for a lot of stuff-finding an apartment and then furnishing it for him. I interacted with more people and was inside more stores and businesses this weekend than I have been since this started. I wore a mask religiously and sanitized every time I got back in the car after being somewhere or picking something up.
Yesterday, I came down with a sore throat and a stuffy nose. It’s just a cold and I’m not worried, but it was really sobering how easily I got sick even with precautions (I’m high risk). Our governor finally allowed local authorities to require masks and ours did, for which I’m glad.

I’m claustrophobic so I get why people don’t like wearing them. I suggest wearing one for a short time while you are relaxing at home, like peaing. Just a few minutes at first, and gradually increase. I can wear one as long as I need to without that panicky feeling now.

It is worth the discomfort. I think you are focusing on the mask rather than what you are doing while wearing it. I think the disposable ones are easier to breathe in, but I also have cloth masks.
Masks are life now and I don't see that changing any time soon. Spend some time finding a type you can work with
Some people find Buffs easier to deal with - I don't like them as much as the elastic around the ears type.
Also, stop pulling it down to breathe, you are spreading germs when you do that - to yourself and others!

The longest I had to wear one was for an hour. I got itchy, but that was it. My sis is like OP, she hates it after 15-20 mns.

I want to add that I went to the dentist (rescheduled from late March) this week. It was interesting to see the differences between my periodontist's office and my dentist's, but that's not the purpose of this post.
My dentist is wearing 2 masks (I can't recall the details of what they are as it was difficult to hear her) AND a face shield. Glasses and goggles as well. I asked her if her skin gets irritated, it doesn't. But she said her nose hurts because everything is pulled so tightly across it. If she can do it for 10 hours a day....I can train myself to wear my cloth mask for as long as is necessary.
OP, I hope you can find something you find more comfortable and can allay the stresses you have when wearing a mask!

I can do 8 hours, aside from eating lunch at my desk. I have some quilting cloth masks, some stretchy jersey type masks and a mask that feels like stretch workout out gear. The stretchy ones feel better on my face.

I work in a grocery store, so I wear a mask for my whole shift (sometimes 5.5 hours and sometimes 8 hours). I only take it off when I go on break or when I take my lunch.
The only time I find it to be a bother is when the store is a bit too hot. Otherwise I don't mind it at all.

I don't mind wearing it, but talking nonstop for an hour while wearing one is tough-- I do start to get a bit short of breath, because I talk too fast and don't take deep enough breaths. (I'm the training coordinator at my work, so I do training classes for new employees.) Other than that, I don't mind wearing one although my glasses do fog up from time to time, and yesterday it was making me feel pretty warm with it on.

I have claustrophobia— issues with crowds, elevators, tunnels etc. I have also conditioned myself to tolerate discomfort, however, because the benefits of daily walking outweigh the daily discomfort and pain I have when I do this. Maybe you could look at mask wearing the same way-the benefits of mask wearing outweighing the difficulty of doing so.

Longest I've had to wear one so far was an hour. I was READY to rip it off the minute I got outside. That was an N-95 DH bought for using in the garage.
Today I tried a fabric mask I bought on Etsy, I need to adjust the ear loops so it fits better but it isn't as tight. It was blocking my vision while I was trying to pump gas and I was having a hard time not touching it so I could see but I was at the gas station, outside and no one was there so I took it off... so that one lasted maybe 2 minutes.

I wore mine on a flight a couple of weeks ago for 5 hours - longest 5 hours of my life lol I get super overheated with them on. I probably need to try other types of masks, but honestly I just find myself staying home rather than put the damn thing on.

I am working with 7 other people as a lunch lady sending food out to the kids in my community. I wear a mask for a 4 hour stretch, then take a short socially distant break, on again for another hour or two. We are wearing thick cloth masks. Don’t like it, but can do it for my and others’ protection.

As long as I'm cool, I can wear them all day. When I get hot, the mask feels like I'm wearing an unnecessary winter hat and contributes to me being warm.

I've only ever worn them for an hour or so, because I only go the grocery store and to medical appointments. I will admit that the first time I wore one it caused me some unexpected anxiety but it was manageable and I'm used to it now.
