They admitted my brother to the hospital last night. His numbers are really low, i believe it was called neutropenia. He may have to start his 100 day seclusion over.
It seems to have stemmed from a skin infection

Neutropenia, in a nut shell, is when you are low on white blood cells. As I was going into remission, I went neutropenic and my blood cultures didn't show any infection. A couple of doses of neupogen and my white cells kicked back into production.
Hopefully it will be as simple as that for your brother. Keeping him in my thoughts.

He went from 7.7 white blood count to his last few weeks have been 0.6, 0.8, 0.6. His ANC is zero. And his kidney function was down Hopefully his body is just fighting an infection and his white blood count will go up. Peas, if you could spare a prayer or a good thought, I'd appreciate it. Sorry to hear this and we will continue to pray for his recovery. As you know my BIL is going through the process as well, so I'm very interested in your brother's progress to compare what BIL is going through or might go through. So do you know how he might have gotten a skin infection? Just one of those things because his immune system is so low? BIL has been going outside quite a bit, which the fresh air and sunshine is great, but still makes me nervous as there are soooooo many germs out there. {{{Hugs}}} |

Prayers to your brother!! Is he going thru chemo?? This sounds a lot like what DH has experienced while going thru his chemo sessions. When your neutrophils fall below an acceptable level, you're at high risk for infection or neutropenia. This is the white blood count, as you said. I still have DH's booklet explaining all of this. I pray that your brother will regain his strength and get his numbers back up. This did happen a few times with DH and he was able to recover, and he has so many extenuating medical issues.
