I just ordered this cutter from Amazon. Today I tried to cut a piece of paper over 6" long. I pulled out the ruler, but it only goes out a little way. There is a clear plastic piece on the back that stops the orange rotating piece from going further. I could try to force it, but I'm afraid it will break it. Is that piece supposed to be forced?
I tried to contact Fiskars. Their phone line says it is down for the near future. I tried emailing 3 different times attaching a photo and there is no submit button. By clicking around the page it finally took it, but said I needed to refresh the page. When I refreshed all my info disappeared from the form. After 3 tries I gave up.
Is Fiskars known for their lousy service? If I had known this, I'd have gone with a different brand. Anyone have answers?

Mine goes out 75% of the way smoothly, then to get it the rest of the way you do have to push a little harder and it clicks into place. If you break it, and can get a hold of Fiskars, they do have a lifetime warranty...

It's impossible to get in touch with Fiskars. The web address they give doesn't exist, the phone is closed for the near future and any email I tried to send wouldn't go through. I just needed someone to tell me that it needed forcing. Thanks so much @breetheflea.

Hope no one needs to talk to Fiskars this year! So frustrating, but good to know that you figured it out without them.

Wasn't there a Pea who contacted them recently and they fixed their issue? Who was that?

That is so strange nylene, I have had excellent CS from Fiskars! Once I squeezed a punch really hard and snapped the handle, and they sent me a new one right away. Most recently, I got a elephant punch from Tuesday Morning (this was in February) and got it home and it did not punch right. The elephant ear would not cut all the way through. If you turned it over, you could see the metal did not meet up. I contacted them and they said to fill out the form on the site, send a pic and they would send a new one. It took a while, but they did. I am sorry you were having such a hard time with them-maybe there is something going on at the company that is making CS worse right now, or if they laid off people or something...

I just bought one on Amazon last month. Like you, I had to force the ruler out. It works great now.
It's awful that you can't reach Fiskars.
I bought mine just for "gutting" my paper when I want to create a border all around my page. I saw a YouTube video where she did that and thought GENIUS! I can't really do that with my Carl trimmer (which I love).

I don’t think I posted about it, but I contacted them earlier this year regarding a pair of scissors (the spring-loaded kind that have to be latched to close, if that makes sense). I bought them YEARS ago (like, 17 maybe?) and the orange slide to keep them closed had broken quite some time ago. I figured I’d give it a try. They sent me a replacement piece (I was hoping for a new pair of scissors, but this worked) for free. Here’s the email I have - I’m pretty sure my initial contact was through a form on their website, but this is the email they responded through.

That's the web address that they gave me yesterday when I tried to call. Yesterday it came up saying PAGE NOT FOUND. Today it takes me to the page for emailing that I tried to submit 3 times. It would not go through and said I had to refresh. Refreshing made the entire email disappear. Something has happened to their customer service, obviously. I had heard good things about them, but didn't have that experience yesterday. I'm glad for scrappy friends here who could answer my very simple question. Should I force the ruler out straight? Thanks for the info. I'm glad I didn't really need them after all.
