"It's hard to know what's most notable about the Colorado Republican primary upset that ousted Rep. Scott Tipton on Tuesday night. It could be that the primary winner, restaurant owner Lauren Boebert, is a newcomer to politics who defeated a five-term incumbent. It could be that her restaurant (the aptly named Shooters Grill, in also-aptly-named Rifle, Colo.) is known for its servers who openly carry firearms on the job. It could be that the race represents another defeat for a Trump-backed candidate. It could also be her openness to the QAnon conspiracy theory.... Oregon Republican Senate candidate Jo Rae Perkins, for example, said, "I stand with Q and the team" in her victory speech after winning the nomination to run against Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican congressional candidate in Georgia, said in a 2017 video that "Q is a patriot" and that she wanted to "take this global cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles out," as The Washington Post has reported. (Top Republicans have rebuked Greene for her racist views expressed in online videos and reported on by Politico.) While some of these candidates stand little chance of winning in November — Perkins, for example, is running in a Senate race that the Cook Political Report has rated "Solid Democratic" — Boebert's chances are good. Boebert's race, in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, is rated "Solid Republican." Greene is headed to a GOP primary runoff in Georgia's 14th District, which is also considered safe Republican territory in the fall." www.npr.org/2020/07/01/885991730/gop-candidates-open-to-qanon-conspiracy-theory-advance-in-congressional-racesQ believers in Congress. What could go wrong w/people who put fear, ignorance and beliefs over evidence and reality?!?! www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/06/qanon-nothing-can-stop-what-is-coming/610567/

I live in Colorado, but this is not my district, thank goodness. She sounds like a real nutter. And she will probably win, given that area usually is quite red.

That's just disturbing and it's scary to be honest. I can't understand how someone like that gets elected anywhere.

Born on the dark fringes of the internet, QAnon is now infiltrating mainstream American life and politics www.cnn.com/2020/07/03/us/what-is-qanon-trnd/index.html"Since its origin three years ago, QAnon has festered in the darker corners of the internet. Now the group's followers, who call themselves "believers," have found a niche on social media and within the Republican Party. QAnon began as a single conspiracy theory. But its followers now act more like a virtual cult, largely adoring and believing whatever disinformation the conspiracy community spins up... Followers make unfounded claims and then amplify them with doctored or out-of-context evidence posted on social media to support the allegations. "

"His tweet came in response to a tweet earlier in the day from Kinzinger, who called the QAnon conspiracy a product of "Russian propaganda or a basement dweller" following the victory of Marjorie Taylor Greene, a QAnon supporter, in the GOP primary runoff for Georgia’s 14th District on Tuesday night. The congressman was the first GOP lawmaker to criticize Greene's win, asserting there is "no place in Congress for these conspiracies." Following Greene's win, Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to voice his support for the GOP candidate, calling her a "future Republican star." "Congratulations to future Republican Star Marjorie Taylor Greene on a big Congressional primary win in Georgia against a very tough and smart opponent," Trump tweeted. "Marjorie is strong on everything and never gives up - a real WINNER!" Requests for further comment from Wolking and the Trump campaign were not immediately returned. Kinzinger's office also did not immediately return a request for comment from The Hill. The QAnon conspiracy, which began shortly before the November election in 2016, claims without evidence that top Democratic officials, major celebrities and figures in the media are working together to bring down Trump and are tied to an international child sex trafficking ring. The theory is based on posts by a mysterious individual or group of individuals on an anonymous internet forum. The posts have made numerous predictions that have not come to fruition, including claiming that Trump's 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton would be arrested as a result of the now-shuttered Russia investigation. Greene is expected to win the general election in her red district in November. She won 60 percent of the vote in Tuesday's runoff election." thehill.com/homenews/campaign/511740-trump-campaign-spox-rips-gop-congressman-over-rejection-of-qanon-conspiracyAmerica is broken.

"When Jo Rae Perkins walked over to greet us for the very first time, she did not introduce herself or ask our names, the first thing she did was move her hand across her face and say, "What are these things on your faces?" I couldn't hear her, so I walked closer. Perkins, who is running for the US Senate after winning the Oregon Republican primary, made clear in the first minute of our meeting that she does not believe in the science behind wearing masks in the middle of the deadliest pandemic the world has seen in 100 years. "What did you say?" I asked her. "What are these things?" Perkins repeated circling her mouth with her hand. "What are what things? What are you asking?" I responded "Those things covering your faces, I can't see you guys?" "Oh, masks?" I said "Oh, thank you," she said. "Do you not believe in wearing masks?" I responded. "Do you see one?" Perkins replied. "I do not. But what's your answer?" I said. "No," Perkins said "Why not?" I replied. "They do absolutely nothing to protect you," she said confidently. So I asked, "How do you know that? Are you a scientist?" "No, I don't need to be a scientist. I've done tons of reading," Perkins retorted. "Oh. Are you a doctor?" I asked. "I don't need to be a doctor either. I know how to read," she said with a chuckle. At the time we talked, America had lost nearly 170,000 lives to Covid-19, and the nation's top scientists continue to say masks help stop its spread. Top economists say a nationwide mandate could curtail economic pain. Perkins is convinced otherwise. She scoffs at advice given by America's top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, and she believes that the Covid-19 death toll is being manipulated. "I totally believe that that the numbers are doctored," Perkins said. "Because they can destroy the economy. They can blame it on President (Donald) Trump, that the economy is not doing good. Look at how phenomenal the economy was doing." She is convinced of this because of who she talks to and what she reads, which she says is varied. Her reading also includes missives from an anonymous poster on message boards called "Q."" www.cnn.com/2020/08/22/politics/jo-rae-perkins-qanon-oregon-senate-race/index.htmlLike a cancer, conspiracy theory grows and spreads.

Scary stuff. I just find it hard to believe anyone could believe the Q stuff. Of course their leader said oh they like me snd is only encouraging them more by not saying anything against them the same way with the kkk. If he denounced them it could have kept it from spreading. Well not the kkk but maybe the Qanon people.
When I looked it up I could see a tiny bit of truth in a few of their beliefs but then it went so far out there that I just can’t believe anyone could be pulled in.
Our country is broken. I don’t see anyone in politics that’s going to be unite us at this point either.

And Pence knows nothing about Q.... But after the pictures were published he had them crop Q out! Tweet is not available unless someone who tweets can find it! I put TWO spaces between // and twitter https:// twitter.com/jaredlholt/status/1068628419871735808 Photo and tweet Nov 30, 2018 Article from Dec 01, 2018 Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to South Florida on Friday was not without controversy, as a photograph soon spread online showing a Broward Sheriff’s Office SWAT sergeant greeting Pence while wearing a “QAnon” conspiracy patch on his official uniform. Sgt. Matt Patten, a 27-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was among a corps of deputies on location as Pence landed at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport ahead of an appearance at the 2018 Israeli-American Council National Conference taking place this weekend in Hollywood. His patch, which includes an upper-case “Q” along with the phrase “Question the Narrative,” is linked to a baseless, far-right conspiracy theory birthed online that purports the existence of an international pedophilia ring affiliated with prominent Democrats. ** The photograph gained attention after it was published online Friday afternoon via Pence’s official Twitter page. Jared Holt, a reporter for Right Wing Watch first flagged the tweet to his followers. Pence’s tweet was later deleted. Today, Mike Pence posted a photo on Twitter with a Flordia law enforcement officer wearing a QAnon patch for sale on Amazon pic.twitter.com/vnOkk1l5Ee

It really makes me wonder about my fellow citizens. It is frightening to realize enough people would vote for a Qanon candidate, that the candidate would win the primary.
I take elections very seriously. Do these voters really want these crazies running the government?

Qanon supporting incoming Congressional Rep Greene lies.
Again.
It's as if she thinks we live in a world w/o the internet for easy fact checking.

And this is why Democratic messaging is irrelevant to people who think (as more than half of Republicans do) that “truth” is found in internet conspiracy theories.
We don’t blame the party that opposed Hitler for his rise to power. We blame the people who believe conspiracy theories about Jews and others who weren’t part of the “master race,” and who were willing to shift the blame for their economic woes to minority communities.
It’s only in the US that we’re willing to blame one party for people’s willingness to believe the lies of the other. And when we participate in this self-flagellation, we perpetuate the claims of the liars.

It's the "party over country" people who allow the Q-nutters to gain ground. If that type of Republican would step back and... Fuck it. What am I thinking. Never mind.
