Wasn't supposed to thaw before cooking. I thawed. Are they going to be gross?

We had a box of different things from Omaha and the chicken fried steak was our favorite (more than the steaks). We made gravy to go with it since our box did not come with any. It is not Even remotely healthy but we liked it.
I can’t remember if we thawed it first.

I think it will be fine just cut 5-10 minutes off the cooking time.
I do wish they came with gravy. We love these!

Thanks, ladies! I monitored the temp and got them good and crispy. They were pretty good. I had some jarred turkey gravy, which was ok with them. I wish they'd do a gravy, too. I'm sure it would be better than jarred turkey gravy.

I love chicken fried steak. That is all. Now I’m going to pretend I didn’t read this thread.
(I made it once. It was incredibly delicious but too much trouble for my lazy self to ever make again. So the Omaha Steaks version sounds intriguing. OR I could just go to the breakfast place that does a great job with it.)

Omaha Steaks did alright... very peppery, which I like. I've never made it, either. I think that I would think it was too much trouble, too. Pounding and breading and frying - too much like chicken parm. Love to eat it. HATE making it.

I AM SO CONFUSED!!! So I googled "Omaha chicken fried steak" and a number of recipes came up. But the ingredients say "beef cube steaks" or "sirloin steak" or "round steak cutlet" or "sirloin tip". I guess it's not chicken? So why tf do y'all call it a chicken steak? And is Omaha Steaks a restaurant or something? I'm keen to try this.

It’s made from what we call a cube steak ... tough little thing that’s been run through a tenderizer, so it has almost a chopped texture. Then breaded with a coating similar to fried chicken (that’s where the chicken-fried part comes in) and pan fried. Then slathered with a creamy gravy and served with mashed potatoes for dinner, or with eggs and hash browns for breakfast. So delish. You would love it! (Also totally disgusting American food. SO DELISH!!) Even lots of Americans don’t know what it is. Some restaurants put an explanation in the description: this is not chicken! Some restaurants call it country fried steak instead to avoid the chicken confusion (I’m pretty sure that’s the same thing, but I could be wrong). Come see me and we’ll go out for chicken fried steak! ETA “Omaha” isn’t part of the name. We were just talking about buying them already breaded from a company called Omaha Steaks that ships meat products all over the country.

This Okie loves a good chicken fried streak with cream gravy. Buckets of cream gravy. 😋 with mashed potatoes and fried okra. Might as well get as much cholesterol and carbs out of the meal as you can Damn now I need to put it on the menu next week.

Sorry to hijack, but Chicken fried steak! D/H and I recently had a huge heated "discussion" about chicken fried steak. He does almost all the cooking and he asked what I wanted. I said Chicken Katsu, Japanese pan fried chicken strips over rice and I add scrambled eggs.
His response was, "so you want chicken fried steak"? I replied no, it is Japanese style fried chicken. He insisted there was no difference. I told him it is fried chicken breast and not cubed steak, argh! He continued to insist it was just chicken fried steak and he did not need a recipe. I told him appreciated the thought but to forget it and I will make it another time.
A few days later he brought up the chicken fried steak again, said he would follow the recipe. Well, he did not and it was a gross. He confessed he did not use the recipe.
About a week after the main event, he tried again, this time following the recipe, it was outstanding. Why did we have to go through all this for a meal? We really need some quality apart time.

Mmm... chicken fried steak... I need to see if the Omaha Steaks store is open today! It's eight steaks for $34.99.

I wish they'd do a gravy, too. I'm sure it would be better than jarred turkey gravy. Chicken Fried Steak needs white country gravy. You can make it with the pan drippings, milk and flour. But I cheat and use a mix. And it is GOOD! McCormick's Country Gravy. I think the packages says to make with water - but make it with milk or half milk, half water. It is THE best. They also make a peppered one, that has more pepper flavor and is also good: If you are into Biscuits and Gravy - try their Country Sausage gravy. Brown a pound of good mild sausage and add it to the prepared gravy to put over biscuits. The frozen buttermilk biscuits by Pillsbury are awesome with this. You bake them and the rise up nice. You can bake one or you can bake all 12.
