Our county was the only one in So. Cal. not on the watch list, until today! Things have been shut down in the other counties. Our beaches are still open, but LA and OC are not, so we’ll probably get an influx of people from there this weekend. And then I hear people from Arizona are coming too. Ugh! We are doomed! This may be a bad weekend for us. The next two weeks will tell the story.

Sorry. I'm really salty that we have been masking and distancing since mid-March and infection rates are skyrocketing here in Los Angeles County. I think people got careless when "re-opening" was announced without associated PSAs about continued mask use, social distancing, and limited gatherings. I feel particularly bad for my kids, four months at home with no end in sight.

Probably? They are already here! I’m not going anywhere this weekend. I wish our officials would have closed the beaches. I feel for restaurants that are down by the beach. They’ll get a lot of business this weekend but I’m sure they’ll be closed due to positive cases in about two weeks.

My dd lives in Santa Barbara county and got the notice yesterday that they are closing beaches. She wasn't planning on going anyway, so it doesn't affect her.

We have been the watch list for Riverside County for a while. Sighs.

without associated PSAs about continued mask use, social distancing, and limited gatherings. I do not understand why TV and Internet is not flooded with PSA from celebrities, musicians and athletes - most of which are sidelined anyway. Half the country won't listen to the other half's politicians so why not have messaging from the much worshiped celebrities. If Labron James, Kim Kardashian, and dozens of other notable people told everyone to wear a mask, it would be the accepted thing to do.

Some of them are doing it on SM, which I appreciate and think it is a good medium for younger generations. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the other people that need to hear the message the most would just reject it from entertainers.

Yup. I am in OC close to the beach and I’m concerned about riding my bike in that direction. Lots of out of state license plates, not just Arizona. I don’t understand why you would want to come here - we are poised for disaster.

Our positive test numbers & hospitalizations have been going up so steadily that anyone coming here this weekend is a fool.

At least most governors are on board with social distancing. We hear from the scientists. Everyone has someone they will listen to and believe.

I just think that the mediums they are using are appropriate for the age groups they are trying to reach. I’m imagining the younger stars like those you mentioned. But perhaps older entertainers would be effective on TV. Do you think age has something to do with celebrity influence? We are almost 50 and I don’t see it amongst our friends and family.

We are almost 50 and I don’t see it amongst our friends and family. They use older celebrities in advertising so there must be an influence. I think in our state basketball coaches would be convincing to most any age group. This is the biggest health crisis our country has faced since the invention of television and I can't recall seeing a single PSA about social distancing. Social media is just one medium. People of all ages watch television and movies whether it is on TV or on streaming services.

It was as crowded as any summer weekend in any other year. We saw about 6 people with masks. HB is the worst.

Our positive test numbers & hospitalizations have been going up so steadily that anyone coming here this weekend is a fool. Except it’s lower in San Diego than in AZ. I really thought the mayor would call for closing the beaches ahead of the holiday. That could have slowed the spread but I guess the tax revenue was more important to him. Individual cities can also close their beaches but people have already arrived. It should have happened on Wednesday to keep people away. People from other counties are going because you can dine inside as well not just the beaches. We are in Riverside county and no one takes it seriously and are pissed about masks and that they can’t eat indoors or go to a bar and all fireworks have been cancelled at least near Temecula. I expect to hear tons of parties and illegal fireworks this year. We aren’t going out. I would love to get takeout from our newly opened Phils but seeing pictures of the crowd nope, no thanks. .

It's a list of counties that have a high infection rate. I'm using CA as an example. If a county at least in CA stays on the list for more than three days the state will roll back reopening.

In my stupid little bitty Florida county we have people calling mask wearers sheeple, proclaiming loudly the virus is a hoax and refusing to stay home. I can imagine such idiots will flock to CA beaches in hoards.

Ugh. Sorry. My sister is in LA and is bringing her family here for a month. Not only can she come to see family but she now gets away from LA.
As an aside, our numbers are very good and our gov’t is asking us to do things like go to beaches - as long as you’re 2 metres apart from others we are being encouraged to be outside as much as possible. Since we have opened up and entered phase 2 and 3 my dd has biked to the beach to meet friends (from 2-6 girls) a lot. She maintains two metres. If we pulled back to phase 1 we wouldn’t allow her to do this without us. During phase 1 we walked or biked on the beach as a household family unit - we didn’t meet friends.
I know my sister is frustrated that the beaches were closed (especially when it was super hot) and with the reinstitution of lockdown rules, although she likes that the state is trying. Her area still feels safe but they are careful about where they go. I think mass gatherings are the worst in this situation and the protests could not have helped. That would have been a super spreader situation.

Interesting. We’re in Orange County but we are staying inside except for grocery runs every few weeks. It’s obvious to me that people are getting bored and want to resume normal life. We think that’s a mistake.
