No plans for today - it's just another Saturday for us. We had some excitement earlier, when we could hear helicopters circling overhead for ages - it seems there was a protest ride by over 1000 motorcyclists around the city 'middle ring' freeway, which passes just 500m from our house and the choppers were keeping an eye out from above. It does seem to have quietened down now at least.
Dinner tonight is jerk chicken. We were watching British Celebrity Masterchef last night and one of the contestants made this, so DH decided he wanted to try it. The spice mix he made smells wonderful and the chicken is now marinating away in the fridge until it is time to grill. It will be served with coconut rice and grilled fresh pineapple.

Happy Independence Day to the Americans posting today. Several of the arrows are Americans and they want to express the same sentiment. They would have lit a firework or two, but alas, still no appendages for Pete's sake.
We are going over to a block party that we've been to for a number of years. It's quite changed this year. Physical distancing, masks as needed, bring your own chairs, food/drink, and if you want to visit with others, walk down one side of the street and then the other side to return to your house. They have a children's parade so everyone can see the kids in their attire. There have been children's competitive games in the past, managed by an amazing elementary school teacher, so we'll see what she can come up with this unusual year. It's been fun to see the kids grow up.
We've been invited each year by our daughter's future in-laws. It was a nice way to get to know them 7 years ago and we've always had a lovely time. We'll take loaded pasta salad and fruit salad to eat.
Thanks for the thread. Your meme is awesome today. I cannot imagine music out of a speaker back then, but I'm wondering if there were harmonicas, makeshift drums, handmade flutes, and some inventive percussion. I sure would have preferred being a musician and not the cook having to stir something over an open fire! I like my kitchen conveniences haha!

Happy Saturday and 4th of July everyone!
Im making some chicken thighs that need to be used and then going to some friends house for dinner this evening for a cookout. Some of the few people we've seen for the last few months!
I'm having this weird desire to bullet/art journal today, so hopefully I'll squeeze in some crafty time too.
I hope everyone has a great day!!!

Happy Independence Day to those living in they USA.
We are laying low today and just piddling around the house. Mom has still not decided if she wants us to bring her dinner, so haven't put dinner plans in concrete yet. The enchiladas may have to wait one more day and we do something quick and easy.
Hope everyone has a good day, stays safe and well. Enjoy!

We are laying pretty low today.
My DD requested cilantro lime chicken on the grill so I will do that. I am going to make a huge pasta salad that we can eat all weekend. And, I baked cookies last night for today.
We are watching a bat mitzvah via YouTube this morning and hoping to play with my Chalk Couture stuff that came yesterday.

Happy Fourth of July ! Hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe day ! I had some grapes that were not sweet at all and I didn't want to throw them out. Checked on pinterest and found a grape cake recipe. Turned out pretty good if I say so myself My MIL will be joining us for dinner today. We are grilling some chicken thighs and hot dogs. Cole slaw and baked beans to go with it and for dessert I bought a small strawberry cheesecake.

Don't think there's anything special planned for today. Everyone seems to have their own thing going on. Maybe DH and I will have some grilled shrimp, I dunno.

Happy 4th to the Americans! I am back to a stomachache today. Back to toast this morning. Everyone else is fine. For dinner, we are having beef, salad, corn on the cob and green beans. I may add cornbread to the menu. miominmio I am really sorry that you feel that you need to leave. I hope that you come back soon.

That jerk chicken sounds delicious! Can you get your husband to share the recipe? I would love to try it too. I have chicken in the freezer, coconut and rice in my pantry, and I just bought a pineapple a couple of days ago.

We have been invited to a small BBQ, so I am taking the pulled pork that we made yesterday, but didnt get to eat. They have chicken wings, brats, corn, and salad. Should be able to be outside and appropriately distanced.

destined2bmom , what is your doctor saying? Are you seeing a gi? I'm sorry that you're in pain, again. GI stuff sucks a lot. Just read yesterday's thread. bklyngal62, I'm thinking good thoughts for your niece. My appt yesterday was just a tuchus checkup for my tailbone. I never miss appts, but I slept late and scrambled to be at the computer on time. Goodness knows what I must have looked like. EEK! We just got home an hour ago. Today I'll catch up w/the Animal Crossings thread and maybe puzzle. Dinner is pizza from our favorite pizzaria near mil's. Tonight we'll watch another episode of Ozark. We just started that show and so far, it's really good, dark but good. Enjoy your weekend, my favorite tribe.

It's 3:00. I haven't showered. I've been crocheting all day enjoying my alone time. I drank last night so I don't feel much like drinking today. I don't really want to go anywhere

We are laying low. I am scrapbooking. No family gathering or anything fun today. Normally a big BBQ with homemade ice cream. However, still doing all the food just at home for 3 now. Bacon Cheeseburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, fruit salad, chips. Red, white and blue gatorade and some type of dessert.

Headed to my sister’s shortly for the family BBQ I still think is a bad idea. I'm sure they’re grilling burgers and hot dogs, because the kids are coming, and my sister is making German potato salad ... not sure what all else. She always makes too much food, and this is the first time she has “entertained” in months. I made green bean salad, which a girlfriend invented many years ago, and is super easy and always gets completely cleaned out at buffets. GREEN BEAN SALAD no amounts given, you get to choose I used about 1.2 lbs of green beans and a carton of cherry tomatoes today. fresh green beans fresh tomatoes sliced black olives Italian dressing bleu cheese sprinkles Snap off the ends of the green beans and boil or steam until lightly done. Spread in a 9x13 pan and top with sliced tomatoes. Sprinkle with sliced black olives. Drizzle with Italian dressing. Refrigerate for several hours. Sprinkle with bleu cheese crumbles right before serving. jeremysgirl, *I* will feed you, if you bring the margaritas. 200 years ago would be an orchestra playing in your living room! Or granddad playing his fiddle on the front porch.

Also, I forgot to tell you guys ... I found the frozen homemade noodles at Raley’s! YAY!! I don’t know if they were there all along and I missed them, or if they just started carrying them again. But anyway, they were not by the frozen potatoes where I found them years ago and always look. They were hidden in a dark corner on a top shelf with the frozen ravioli and tortellini.
Maybe the tortellini used to be next to the potatoes and I forgot?
(oh, I think that was a different thread, not the dinner thread, sorry)

scrapmaven I loved Ozark. Hopefully you guys will too. It’s just dh & I. I’ve been doing chores. He’s been doing stuff for our contractor. Grilling hot dogs & chicken. Also have pasta salad, baked beans &? My sister has a big outdoor 4th party. We weren’t invited now that my dad has passed away. Dh is glad of course but I like family chaos on the holidays. My kids are all busy this year. I’m guessing the social distancing won’t be good at the party. Plus her family & neighbors drink entirely too much. Then light off giant fireworks. That part is hard to watch. So I’m better off. I’m going to get the telescope out for the eclipse tonight. miominmio I hope you come back soon. I feel like you just got back. jeremysgirl enjoy your day however it ends up. Is your son working?

Checked on pinterest and found a grape cake recipe. I don't think I've ever eaten or made a grape cake and I'm intrigued. I have to keep reminding myself it is Saturday. DH being home yesterday has really thrown me off. I won an auction item this week and the pick up day is Sunday, so I was on the computer early to book a time slot this morning. They open the list at 7am on the pick up day and it took me way longer than it should have to figure out today isn't Sunday. DH is BBQing and grilling a ton of meat today. He has watched way too many BBQ shows lately and has a very large piece of pork that has been cooking for hours already. There are also some beautiful looking steaks seasoned and ready to be grilled. I'll toss a few vegetables on at the same time (the usual onions, zucchini, peppers along with some corn on the bone) and probably make a coleslaw.

(oh, I think that was a different thread, not the dinner thread, sorry) I think they were by the frozen potato, but maybe they decided that they needed to go by the Italian frozen pastas because after-all they are pasta, but I sure don't associate them with any thing close to Italian. Glad you found them. Yummy.

We had leftover pizza. I think my dad wanted a piece of my pizza so I gave him a huge slice. His recovery is great. He is off everything but Celebrex. He isn’t sleeping so I am getting concerned.
