Damn... I hate getting older (52 yo, 135 lbs, 5'6"). I didn't gain much, but without movement I guess that's what happens. I'm not an exerciser, just moving kids here to there and walking at work, but without this it's taken a toll and my shape has shifted. Anyone commiserate?

Yes. Yes, yes.
Same age. I need to get my eating habits under better control, but I think there’s an age/hormonal factor, too. Not very happy with myself right now.

Being menopausal is a real bword. Things that used to work for me to keep off weight no longer do. I don’t have a scale but I’ve gained so much that wearing pants makes me weep in agony. And I’ve even been exercising for the first time in literally years but it hasn’t made a difference. Aging is stupid.

Menopause is bad. I’ll echo Mary Mary - it’s so much harder than it used to be to lose weight. For the first time ever my boobs have gotten bigger and I have back fat. No fun at all. ETA- some days I run as much as 10 miles - which gives me nice legs but does nothing for the back fat I know it’s all about diet, unfortunately I really love my bread and white wine....

OMG exactly.... I carried twins so that's been my excuse, but not working now.... TFS

I hear you. I just can't figure out any new tricks to get some of this weight to budge.

I'm almost 10 years ahead of you and all I can say is KEEP MOVING & STRETCHING! Yes, I'm shouting. I have no doubt that the only way to keep your health for the post menopausal years is to do both. It doesn't have to be hard and/or intense moving if that's not your thing. Walking is a fabulous way to do it. Plus stretching every day.

I was doing really well until I quit my full-time job last year - which was a full-body work out for me every shift. I’ve gained back about 15 lbs this past year, from the 70 lbs initially lost when I went back to work. I’m seriously considering going back to that particular job full-time again largely because it keeps me in shape and I clearly don’t have the willpower or motivation to do it on my own.
My thighs and gut have definitely taken on most of this round of weight gain.

I think my 50s are fabulous! While I am not shaped like I was, and gravity is definitely a factor, I have decided to accept this body of mine. I walk every day to keep movement in my life, and I try to eat only whole foods (although that doesn't mean I don't occasionally eat a slice of pie). One thing I have noticed is that I need a lot less food to be satisfied, and there is definitely a mourning period over not being able to eat (or drink!) as much as before.

I can't do much moving around. Everything hurts, all the time. My doctor said I have Fibromyalgia. She's had me on 4-5 different medications, and nothing has helped.

Sing it! 52 this month and it just gets harder and harder to even maintain, forget about losing. I have noticed a tiny difference since starting intermittent fasting and switching to a completely vegetarian diet (I was there except for the delicious bacon). My doctor just says that this is my new normal but I am not okay with that.

I have decided to embrace who I am at every weight and focus more on eating until satisfied and exercising to keep myself healthy and fit. I'm losing weight but at a pace that is very comfortable and doable. But if having my 20 year old figure means that I would have to have my 20 year old life, I'd much rather be 45. Sagging, wrinkling, graying whatever. I'm tired of living a life where I beat myself up.

I feel your pain. At 56 I have put on 10 lbs in the last 10 years. But it’s where it has all landed in the last year is what I hate! I have that menopausal gut and I hate it. I am going to start working on strength training instead of just walking.
