I’ve been buying puzzles to give as gifts (500-1,000 pieces) and saw that Ravensburger has a set with over 40,000 pieces! What’s the largest puzzle you’ve ever completed and what puzzle size do you normally go for?

I usually stick with 1,000 piece puzzles. I have done 1 or 2 (500) piece puzzles but they seem really easy and come together too quickly. If I was giving a gift, as long as the person was an adult, I would give a 1,000 piece puzzle. Maybe if it was a teenager or an old person, I would give a 500 piece.

I have done 2000 piece puzzles in the past, but that was pre cat Ladyness. I have to use a puzzle board that can be closed up when not in use now, and it only holds 1000 piece puzzles, so that is what I stick with. I did do a 750 typewriter shaped one, but that one was pretty difficult, 500 ones go too quick for me.

I would love to do one of these giant jigsaws - I’m assuming the ones you saw are the two Disney puzzles - but I have absolutely nowhere big enough to hold them! I mostly do 1000 pieces, but that’s because they’re the most widely available and cheapest. My favourites are 1500 and 2000 piece puzzles. I’ve done a lot of 3000, and one 5000. I no longer have a table big enough to do anything bigger than 2000/3000.

I can't even wrap my head around 40,000 pieces! Wow. The biggest I've attempted was 1,000.

We are just completing puzzle #9 during this sheltering in place. We did one 750 but have decided we like 500 better. The Ravensburg 750 was so big it was taking up most of the table. I have been ordering from Puzzle Warehouse. Pay attention to the dimensions...I ordered a 500 piece one from eBay and it was half the size of a normal puzzle...the pieces are so small we gave up quickly.

I mostly go for 1000 piece, though I would consider 1500 or 2000 if I really liked the picture. I saw the 40000 piece Disney one when I was browsing the Ravensburger site, and I looks amazing, but I'd need a whole room to put it together - It is about 22ft long and 6ft high. I also can't imagine how long it would take to finish - 1000 piece puzzles take me between 4 and 10 days normally, though my current one has been in progress for 2 weeks, and I'm about 2/3 done.

We live in the UP of Michigan and the winters here are long so we always have a puzzle going. We have done a 5000 piece puzzle once or twice. My older kids are asking for one of the huge ones so we have been thinking about putting it up in the basement on a large piece of plywood on sawhorses. Right now with most things shut down it might be a good distraction.

Where would you even put that? Who'd go through all the pieces to find the edges?
The Game of Thrones puzzle had 1400 pieces but they weren't all traditional (IYKWIM) I can't even imagine 40,000 pieces.

I prefer 1,000 pieces. My sister just got this one & hopes to be done by Christmas. Personally that many pieces seems like a chore & would take the fun out of it for me.

I like 1000 or 1500 piece puzzles. There’s enough room to spread out the pieces on my 6ft table and depending on the time and complexity they are enough to keep it fun and engaging. If I want a more difficult puzzle I just choose a difficult picture rather than more pieces.

I stick to 1,000 pieces due to space, but could probably push it with a 1,500 piece. Can't even imagine a 40,000 piece. Pretty sure I'd lose interest, and definitely sure I'd lose patience with that many pieces!

I read somewhere that the 40,000 piece Disney puzzle comes in 8 bags of 5,000 pieces. Even then, finding the edges would be the killer for me!

I have always done the 1000 piece puzzles but I might try a bigger one soon. Less than 1000 wouldn't seem like enough of a challenge to me.

Yes! I almost posted about that puzzle yesterday...I think it is in 10 sections but all together the entire puzzle is 22 x 6 feet!!!
I prefer 500 piece. I am working on a 1000 now and it is a little stressful!!

I'm sure that big a puzzle would be a pain to do.

I buy 1000 piece puzzles 90% of the time. I have a couple of 750s. I think I need to buy some 500 piece because the last two 1000 piece puzzles I’ve started have ended up not getting finished. Not as much fun doing them all alone in my opinion.

Once I complete a puzzle, I always bag the edge pieces separately from the rest of the puzzle. I'm thinking that if one worked this puzzle, they could then resell it on eBay and make a healthy premium over purchase prize just by bagging the edge pieces separately!

I wonder if it wouldn't be too bad if each section was in a separate bag with their own edge pieces? Hmm, I'm very intrigued, especially because the description on Amazon claims no assembly is required!
It is pretty though and I'm not a Disney fan at all

1000 pieces is the sweet spot for us. It offers a challenge without too much frustration and usually takes about a week to do so we aren't bored or tired of the image.

I buy 500 for family night. We get through one pretty quickly working together. I get 1,000 for myself to work on here and there usually during winter.

I stick to 1,000 piece because of the size factor.
I also like 300 piece puzzles if I want to finish something within a few hours.

The 1500 Disney Villains puzzle we just did is my limit. I just get bored after that.

We did a 2,000 piece once and said never again! #1. We had to give up use of the dining table for too long. #2. It was a killer in difficulty--an underwater scene with lots of creatures and the photo was split with above and below the sea creatures.
I am pretty much a novice at jigsaw puzzles, so if I were to do it alone, 500-750 would be my limit. DH is a pro and can do the difficult spots.

I just found a puzzle all about Hot Chocolate (my favorite drink ever), 1000 pieces and I’ve done it twice while on vacation this last week!
I like 500 or 1,000 pieces the most but the picture matters more than anything. I like enough definition and colors to do it in sections without being frustrated. I like progress!!

Largest we've done is 3000 pieces. We generally do 2000 piece puzzles. We found the 1000 piece ones went too quickly. The 2000 are a little more challenging.

I’ve never done anything larger than 1000. I don’t think we’d have the space for more.
