I need to buy a new dog bed. One that is good for a elderly dog, washable and won’t be destroyed by her nails as she’s scratching/fluffing to get comfortable. Any recommendations?

I tried a few different ones with my two dogs but the stuffed fabric ones seemed to get very smelly and couldn’t be washed easily. Eventually we opted for plastic beds. I put my discarded pillows in the base and a couple of fleece blankets. I throw away the pillows frequently and wash the blankets weekly.

QueenoftheSloths, yes looking for more of a pillow type. We tried the memory foam type beds, but she kept scratching it in an attempt to rearrange the padding. muggins I’ve tried fleece blankets and she made holes in those as well. 🙁

I just flipped around the one I have for my old girl. Of course there is no brand name on it. I cut the tags off it. I bought it at Pet Supplies Plus. It is 40x30 and has a removable cover and a zippered liner inside around an egg crate type mattress. The cover and liner are washable in my washer. We are on the second bed as the liner ripped, probably from people stepping on it.

The Kuranda cot style beds are supposed to be great, especially for older, achy dogs. You can put a soft bed or something on top of it. We have one for our lab and I bought two sheepskins from Costco to put on it. She loves it! I brush the sheepskins from time to time and you can shampoo them if you need to.

I use these beds. The middle cushion comes out and the foam “rim” comes out and you can wash the cover. The middle is a pillow case full of foam chunks that cannot be washed. I fold a bath towel in half and wrap it around the center cushion so there is a barrier between the cover and cushion. I’m my mind it helps keep the dog off the unwashable part. Have no issues with the center cushion stinking. www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/harmony-tweed-orthopedic-cuddler-dog-bed

I use the large round ones from Costco and a cover from Molly Mutt (42 inch round fits perfectly). New puppy likes to dig and scratch at it to get comfy and is holding up great. Has a hidden zipper, so easy on and off to wash.

I have a tall medium and a tall large dog. Got so tired of trying to clean their big dog beds. They always seemed a bit ripe smelling no matter the bed or how they were washed. And it was getting very expensive to regularly replace their beds. Now I use solid foam crib mattresses, have three. Get them on Amazon. Also, I get the quiet waterproof crib mattress pads with fleece and regular crib sheets. They hold up for years, the dogs dig and dig and I will occasionally have to replace the sheets and a mattress pad, but no odor and they seem comfortable. Plus, throw everything in the wash once a week and they stay fresh, plus the dogs smell like dryer sheets.

I've been searching for a bed for my spoo Belle. At 8 years old she has been having trouble getting up off her bed in the morning. Lately she has taken to sleeping on my bed which has a memory foam top and while not real firm is very comfortable. I've read some reviews on petslifeguide.com/best-dog-bed-for-pitbull/ but cannot choose a particular one.

I love the Costco beds. They have the pillow type and the stiffer "couch" type. They don't always have the smaller sizes. Our dogs have been between 35-50 pounds and the larger size worked for them.

Old thread alert. Aside from that, I like the Costco dog beds too. We have two at home and two older ones at the lake cabin. The newer Kirkland branded ones are much nicer quality and they wash up very well, in fact I just had to wash the cover on one of ours the other day because one of our dogs puked on it.

I have 3 goldens and we have Casper dog beds. They are pricey but well worth the money. We have had them for a least 3 years. Super easy to remove the covers and wash and look brand new after washing. I am very happy with them.

Posie has always turned up her nose at dog beds because she’s always slept on our bed, but she had surgery last month and wasn’t able to climb the stairs. I got her this bed, and she still goes on it even though she can get on the bed again. I cover it with two layers of fleece blanket and and beach towel, to keep the cover clean. So that might satisfy your dog’s desire to bunch up the covers.

We tried a nice looking dog bed from Costco, but returned it because it was too hard and she wasn’t sleeping in it. Fortunately, the bed she is used to came back in stock so she’s using that now.

It isn't here yet, so not positive he's going to love it, but at least I will quit tripping over it! I hope he likes it.
