So happy to have you all on board! My daughter lives in Switzerland, her twin sister is moving to London by the end of the year (because of Brexit, she has to move prior to Dec 31) and I am considering moving to Ireland if not next year, the year after. I still have one kid left in university. For our Norwegians, Norway was my last trip pre-COVID. I was there in January/February and fell in LOVE with your country!! I was in Tromso for the most part, but loved every second of my visit! Lucky you! How did you like the winter darkness? Lindarina I just LOVED it!! We got there on the first day the Norwegians saw the actual sun and it was sunny and beautiful every day until the last, 12 days later. Of course sunny was all for several minutes and the brightness lasted a couple hours, but when you're on vacation and it's dark at 2:30pm, then it's time for a stop in a lovely cafe and a glass of wine! I think I would thrive in a climate like Norway. I love the cold, I love the dark - heck I love the rain! I do NOT love humid and wet, but give me cold and wet every day of the week. When I lived in Switzerland, we had The Fog (it was thusly called, but in French) descend upon us for the entire winter. So starting in late fall (early Nov?) until March, we saw the sun - if it was sunny - from about 10:30 to 3pm. It just makes me warm, cozy and happy. I think I am so very busy all the time, that sometimes rain and cold and wet gives me leave to be a bit lazy. But Norway was just all that. I loved it so much!! I loved that our host drove a Tesla on the snow. I loved that everyone drove so well on the snow and I could barely walk on the ice. I loved the colors of the homes and the lights in all the windows. It was so magical! p.s. I felt VERY American because I gushed so much over our bus driver. He (by a stroke of good luck) was our bus driver a few times and each time I told him how wonderful he was driving through mountains on snow and ice. He was amazing!

Because I was bored while waiting for a meeting to start, I've added it up already: Canada - 12 Australia - 8 UK - 5 Scotland - 2 Norway - 2 Ireland - 1 Wales - 1 Germany - 1 Netherlands - 1 UAE - 1 South Africa - 1 Portuga - 1 Denmark - 1 Saudi Arabia - 1 Finland - 1 Morocco - 1 New Zealand - 1 Belgium - 1 South Korea - 1 Sweden - 1 I'm sure there are a lot more Canadians here, but they haven't posted. I know there are a few more Kiwis as well.

What a very interesting thread! I have always been interested in where people are from & how they ended up where they are. I grew up in Dallas, Tx, married my high school sweetheart & we still live in the general area we grew up in. Family lives nearby & we own a business here. We havenāt had much opportunity to travel outside the US.
Iād love to sit down with each one of you & ask questions.

Iām also in New Zealand š , and Iām aware of at least one other pea who has mentioned she is too but Iāll leave it for her to check herself in š
Also, Iām pretty sure there are at least two peas from France - I have one of them to thank for the early warnings that meant my family were well prepared, something like two weeks before we went into our very first Covid-19 Alert Level! š„°

I love this thread. Please invite me to all your homes and cook me a fabulous meal of local mainstays and delicacies. [snip] Sport is one area where country will be very important so e.g. football (soccer) is a huge sport in the British isles and each country plays in the major competitions (World Cup,Euros) as separate teams, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Of course there are always exceptions so when it comes to Rugby e.g. the Six Nations competition Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland play as Ireland. The other two non British Isles nations are France and Italy in that competition. [ bold mine] Interesting. You succeeded in nudging me down an internet rabbit hole about, of all things, rugby. Strange times, these.

I'm in what most people would consider northern Canada but there is so much more north of me. The darkness is so depressing. And we have so much sun for the few hours it's light out it's usually sunny. Even if it's -20C, -40C/F it's sunny. The cold is more bearable than the dark. It doesn't even get over the neighbours house to shine into ours or come around far enough to the west to shine into those windows in our house, sets in the far southwest. We are dry year round so nice not to have damp or humid weather. But long cold winters keeps the population low and I like that so much.
