Fl just made a new record with over 15,300 cases of Covid in the past 24 hours. This is higher than any other State, including NY at their worst.
This frightens me to no end. Right now I hear children outside playing, no masks, in crowds. I hear people socializing in groups, chatting in the parking lots, etc., no masks, all acting like there's no pandemic. I can't see it subsiding here.

Yep, unless they start taking state wide mandatory, mitigation measures - you’re screwed.

I agree with you. And I am sorry. Our numbers flattened for a long time; then started climbing.

I’m not sure there’s anything that will get that dumbass DeSantis to admit it’s a real problem and actually do something serious about the spread.

We had a mask mandate go into effect a week ago. Mask wearing has gone up dramatically. When I went to Publix The other day, only one person did not have a mask on --a 30 something male.
The people I know personally who still refuse to wear a mask are all die-hard conservatives, including one local Republican big wig politician, who feel the pandemic is overrated as a cause of death. Unfortunately, I work with two of them. It is very scary for me to go to work right now.

It's just horrible. And scary, because New York hit those numbers with a shelter in place order going on at the time.
I don't know what it's going to take for people to take it seriously. I'm a member of my hometown Facebook group and there's a couple who are members who moved to Florida, and just in talking about the idea of mandatory masks in Florida, she called me a "cry baby" who should stay in her room and that people want to live their lives. She said she doesn't know anyone who has it and won't wear a mask unless she's made to.

Ugh. Texas had over 10,000 new cases yesterday. I have an acquaintance on FB (met them on a cruise) who has been going to pub crawls in Texas. They visited 8 pubs yesterday afternoon 🤦♀️ They are in their 60s. Did the same last weekend.

That is crazy...Id be concerned about that and would not be setting foot outside! In my state we only have a fraction of that, but we went back into lockdown last Wed. for another 6 weeks.
I suppose we'll have enough data in a year or so to know if the lockdowns made a significant difference overall, but those sorts of numbers scare me.

Apparently this is Tobay beach on Long Island NY today Why? I just can't understand why. Is THAT really worth the risk? Is it so hard to understand that we don't know everything there is to know about this virus? That some people simply don't know if they are compromised or have some complicating condition that could make them one of the cases we read about? We are doomed and it's our own damned fault for our arrogance and stupidity. We are watching that play out every day and are so cavalier about others who are paying the cost for it.

What, precisely, would she like to do to live her life that she can't do while wearing a mask? ::eyeroll:: Also, you should correct her: she doesn't know anyone who tested positive for it.

That is just insane. Masks seem to provide a false sense of security in a way. They need to shut everything down & stay the f*ck home until numbers go down. Only things open should be grocery stores and pharmacies and maybe hardware stores. And then wear a mask to go to those places when absolutely necessary. No gatherings of people in any way unless living in the same house. It sucks but it's the only way to get this under control.
Because until the US gets this under control the rest of us can't really move on
And I really miss travelling!!

We are doomed and it's our own damned fault for our arrogance and stupidity. We are watching that play out every day and are so cavalier about others who are paying the cost for it. I don’t understand either. I’m an introvert that has been working from home full time since April 2019. I’m not very social and most of my activities are, well were, outside. I’ve sheltered in place since early March even though I’m probably one of the least likely people to have or catch it due to my low people contact. But I’m still staying safe for others. My family lives in a (Washington state) county that has (only) had two deaths so far. Between that and the largest employers still being open as essential all year (shipyard and military bases), it feels like an entirely different experience there. When I shopped for both my parents households, I was surprised at all the elderly people out shopping. That was in March, April and June. My sisters have been visiting friends and each other. One sister more than the other two. My brother and I are in two different counties that are more serious about it and we are not out and about, or socializing.

Florida can shut everything down and people will still be idiots. People are having parties and larger gatherings, bounce houses and all. Hey, this is America, kids don't get very sick and we want to live our lives! We are free to make choices without regard for others. Who cares if others can't live their lives or even die, as long as I do what I want! Let's go to Disney, then drive all over the state, because it is what we want to do!

That's the view that so many people take down here............
I skimmed thru my local chats and they're asking for recommendations on nail salons; a local "fine food" restaurant just re-opened for indoor dining--their seats are so close together. Makes you wonder WHY would they do that now?? It's out of control down here. DeSatan is in denial, pretending that he's doing a great job. He hasn't allowed any of the hospital stats to come out (just began to yesterday), so people are still continuing to come down here for vacations!!!!!! They have no clue as to the severity and non-planning.

I have two cousins who came down here for their vacations, thinking it was "safe" in the town they were staying in. WHY the hell would anyone come down here right now? ?? People are reckless and stupid.

I really think people won't get it until their family and friends circle gets hit with deaths. 100% agree. We just haven’t suffered quite enough yet to satisfy these disbelievers that it’s “real.” By the time they finally wake up, so many people will have died or be suffering long-term effects.
