That is crazy...Id be concerned about that and would not be setting foot outside! In my state we only have a fraction of that, but we went back into lockdown last Wed. for another 6 weeks. I suppose we'll have enough data in a year or so to know if the lockdowns made a significant difference overall, but those sorts of numbers scare me. I was actually set to run out today to go to Publix, but after seeing those numbers I checked all Walmarts here and found one that accepts EBT cards for the order. YEAH! I ordered food for the week and I'll pick it up tomorrow, no contact. Phew..... We're not going anywhere right now!!!!!!!

It’s like watching a slow-motion train wreck. I’m in NYS, and we’ve been through the increase in positive cases, the overwhelmed hospitals, not enough ventilators or PPE, and then the months of massive numbers of deaths. We were just the 1 state at the time. It’s 20+ states now, all at once? I can’t even 😕 We’re rather fed up with distancing and choosing to NOT do things, but we continue to because that’s what worked. It’s not fun, but it’s the right thing to do. We are burned out, but we have been able to very slowly resume some normal activities, and more people are healthy because of our efforts. Opening Disney was an irresponsible move, and they probably know it but did it anyway.

Apparently this is Tobay beach on Long Island NY today Noooooooooooo, was it? ? I used to go there (and to Captree, Gilgo..). That was my beach experience as a kid & then I moved on to the Hamptons. It would be sad if they're being that reckless after all NYC has been through!!!! (I'll try to check if it's current.)

We should all be concerned. To quote Gov. Cuomo, "an outbreak anywhere is an outbreak everywhere".

I bet you have to sign your life away to go to Disney now - contract terms in the ticket purchase. They probably already had mediation (vs. court) and liability waivers - I'm guessing it's even more nuts now what you have to agree to to get in there.
No thanks.

Florida can shut everything down and people will still be idiots. People are having parties and larger gatherings, bounce houses and all. Hey, this is America, kids don't get very sick and we want to live our lives! We are free to make choices without regard for others. Who cares if others can't live their lives or even die, as long as I do what I want! Let's go to Disney, then drive all over the state, because it is what we want to do! YUP!!!!!!!!!!! We're inside and we hear kids running around in groups (no masks--I looked out), without a care. Adults gather in groups in the parking lot or other areas. People continue to have parties and guests at their apartments. It's insane!!!! I wonder if they even are AWARE of the stats right now?

I'm curious about their current plans for students returning to school. My Florida county retracted the August 10 opening and will stay online, then take it month to month.

This is the first time my neighborhood has shown awareness of the pandemic as evidenced by behavior changes. I attribute it to the county mask mandate which for some reason seems to have gotten through to people who have a glimmer of intelligence. We haven't seen the big family parties or groups of kids in two weeks. So there is some hope. I remember a few weeks ago I said here that WDW would indeed open and someone told me there was no way. Well, it has opened and people are traveling from all over the country to go there and to Universal, Sea World, and all over Florida. They are bringing their germs with them and taking Florida home with them. Florida's borders should be closed and these huge attractions closed, but Trump disciple Gov DeSatan will never do it. Can't wait for that RNC convention next month! Yippee!

From what I read on local chats, it sounds like the majority of parents would NOT send their child to school while there are still new covid cases popping up. Seems wise. They are all talking about the choice to continue being schooled at home via video.

It definitely looks better now than the live cam earlier in the day.

My parents sold their place there mid-February and got the hell out. They always did have an amazing knack for timing.

I'm staying away from everyone, DH is working from home and I only go out to get groceries and take the dog out. Wearing a mask in stores is mandatory. I asked DH today if he thought we would ever go back to a pre-covid life and he thought maybe when a vaccine is available. To be honest I don't even think that would allay my fears. I just don't understand why so many people think it's not serious

We had a mask mandate go into effect a week ago. Mask wearing has gone up dramatically. When I went to Publix The other day, only one person did not have a mask on --a 30 something male. The people I know personally who still refuse to wear a mask are all die-hard conservatives, including one local Republican big wig politician, who feel the pandemic is overrated as a cause of death. Unfortunately, I work with two of them. It is very scary for me to go to work right now. I'm sorry that you and so many others are in this position, being in harms way due to ignorant, selfish people who just don't care.

revirdsuba99 : Also, an 11 year old child died in FL last week due to Covid. Devos is another liar in his cabinet. Did you see her snicker and sneer during her interviews this morning? I swear, she's evil!

Mask are mandatory in Virginia sense the end of May but it’s not enforced,I went to Walmart yesterday morning and probably 95% of people had one on but DH went to Lowe’s this morning and it’s probably only 75% , I really wish it was enforced.

You would think they would have learned by watching what happened in NY in March and April. It's like they were given the answers to the exam and yet they still couldn't get an A. I just don't get it. I'm so sorry for all those in Florida that have been doing the right thing and taking this seriously from the beginning.

No food shopping for me. Thank God Walmart takes EBT and I'll pick it up tomorrow! Phew (it's just in a really dangerous part of town here..........).
He hasn't really even stepped outside, except to go to Moffitt. He's "not allowed". People here are FAR too careless and I want to keep him safe.
Take care of yourself!! xo

My sister just sent me the info... she absolutely hates Florida and this is another reason. On a lighter note a quote she saw “dance halls and Arcades are closed.
Dance Halls?? I asked her if Florida forgot what century this is. And are there really arcades still around (except for the newer trendy ones that are typically a retro place but still a bar and grill type place)?

I needed that, because the things I'm learning on this thread are just terrifying, shocking, and maddening.

Fl just made a new record with over 15,300 cases of Covid in the past 24 hours. This is higher than any other State, including NY at their worst. We're #1, We're #1, We're #1. And I'm so f'king tired of winning that race. The section of town where we go for grocery shopping has been pretty good about wearing masks, probably 95%+. Those without a mask get the stink eye from mask wearers. We've been to the beach, those on Sanibel Island seem to be better about social distancing than those on Fort Myers Beach. We just drove past there, had to get out of the house so put the top down on the little car and went for a short ride. Really wanted to stop for ice cream, but the line was just too long. I'm glad your husband is staying in, I think about the both of you often.

This scares the crap out of me! I just moved to Florida the first week of June. Seeing these numbers climb so high is really disturbing. I came from Huntsville, AL. Much smaller than here. I live in Osceola County, Kissimmee. Everything is so much more crowded and busy here. In Huntsville I could go to the store, masked and keep relatively away from others. Here, I feel like someone is always breathing down my ass! My husband works at the theOrlando VA in Lake Nona. He says that they have 25 positive cases there, way higher than in April/May.
