I really haven't been going out much for obvious reasons. However since Thursday I've had to go out a few times. I was very surprised there was very little "rush" hour traffic on Thursday when we had to pick my husbands car up from the mechanic. Typically a particular intersection will take us 10-15 minutes to get though we made it though in 2 lights. I went to Walmart last night around 6pm as I had to get some tolitires and wanted to pick them up myself vs. sending DH. The store was very manageable and people were social distancing and all had masks on. I was shocked, the last time I was there in March is was CRAZY and no one was social distancing. We went out to dinner on Thurday after picking my husbands car up and the restaurant wasn't busy, everyone has masks on, and tables were very socila distant from each other, typically this is a really busy place that's open 24 hours. I had to run to the dollar store this morning to get something for a work project I was doing and DH couldn't go for me. It was around 10am and next door is a busy "brunch" restaurant and their parking lot was almost empty, where in the past it's typically jammed on Sunday. I'm very Proud of our residents for staying home, ordering in, and wearing masks. I hope we can continue this and keep the curve flat.
Just wanted to say thank you !!!

Also in IL. Glad our numbers are so much lower than other state's. I'm nervous people are getting complacent though. I had neighbors with a multi-family party on one side of me (no masks or distancing, maybe 12-15 people total) and teens hanging out (no masks or distancing) down the street. My kids and next door neighbor kids play together (masked) outside only. My son plays with two other boys (brothers), also masked and outside only. They really don't even complain anymore, so I don't know why it's so darn hard for grownups elsewhere...
I haven't eaten inside (don't see a need to right now). I've been to Target - very clean and usually fairly empty - and the grocery store (more crowded and could be better distancing). I find that traffic has picked up though. PLEASE Illinois, let's stick with it!

Illinois numbers are creeping up. And so-close Wisconsin is looking scary. The good news is both Governor Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lightfoot have a healthy (heh) respect for science, and they value human life over votes and money...and sham ideology.*
And, in my experience, most people here are acting covresponsible.
*No, I didn’t just turn the thread political. I’m talking about leadership and reason. Period.

I imagine our case #s are going to go up this week as it appears we hit a record # of tests today. However as long as the positivity percentage is low that's still a good sign.
Thanks for sharing the map Samantha I haven't seen that . I hope people continue to wear masks, social distance and stay home. To your point about bars I think that's why Chicago is making sure they close by I believe I heard midnight. I wonder if liquor stores in Chicago are open until 9p or if the hours were extended.

We are in the NE suburbs and while the infection rate is low (we are red because of proximity to Chicago) people here, for the most part, are pretty serious about masks and social distance. There are always covidiots but fortunately not everywhere. We did have a local SpEd teacher arrested for spitting on someone in Costco after she yelled she had Covid. UGH.

Fellow Illinois resident here...I am so thankful to be seeing pretty good compliance here in my neck of the woods too.
I live in the same county as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, so we seem to have a robust, science based approach with a very involved public health district. The majority of people that I see out at the grocery store are wearing masks and at least attempting social distancing. There are still entitled idiots (the parents in my town who thought that it was a great idea to cram 40 teenagers in a basement for a "special prom," resulting in over 30 cases and several local businesses closed for cleaning) but we have access to free testing for everyone, even if non-symptomatic, and rigorous contact tracing which seems to be squashing bigger outbreaks (fingers crossed). I am hopeful that watching other areas of the country will re-affirm to everyone that science and caution are the way to continue battling this pandemic.

I’ve been out many times, and in all the places I’ve been to, I’ve only seen two people without masks. Been all over – Wrigleyville, Little Saigon, downtown, west suburbs, O’Hare, Evanston/Skokie, and although I’m retired I still keep a small office in Northbrook…all the same observation. No one has made a fuss about mask-wearing and social distancing, although I did read there have been a few confrontations about it. However, nothing like what’s happening in other states. It doesn’t seem to be a controversial issue here. So altogether, I think Illinoisans are obeying Pritzker’s and health officials’ orders and guidelines. Thankfully.

Oh, I feel like we talked about this incident on here! Didn't know she was a teacher. Probably shouldn't be if she's this unhinged. Jeez. I hate when the awful ones make the rest of us look bad, but sometimes it is our own people. Another reason to be nervous to return... Anyway, I never go anywhere, so I'm not a good judge of compliance. But I do think in general Illinoisans are not being shitbirds. Mostly. (Don't look at that group trying to march on Springfield to keep their kids from having to wear masks in school.)

I’m in Chicago, and some of us are pleasantly surprised our numbers are decreasing.
I see people without masks all the time (if I leave the house I’m mostly in Lincoln Park/Lakeview/Lincoln Square), but not many and mostly only outdoors. I see people getting together in small groups with close friends but not strangers, and not big groups.

Pritzker was not high on my list of politicians, his toilet debacle still irks me, but I do have to say that I have been super impressed by the way he and his team have taken on Covid in Illinois. He and Dr Zika have done a really good job of impressing the seriousness and getting everyone on board. Every day when they announce the stats both of them take a moment to express sympathy and condolences for the lives lost. Every day! To them, it seems like every life counts, every death a big loss. I also think mobilizing that massive field hospital in McCormick place scared some serious shit into folks to take this seriously. Thank goodness we never had to use it to the full extent. Lori Lightfoot has also been amazing. Strong leadership and not afraid to speak her mind. I am so grateful we have good leadership here. Just wish it went way higher...how many deaths could have been prevented.

I'm in Springfield, and my son lives in a small town farther south close to the Indiana border. I see many masks and social distancing while I'm out and about. Our work was deemed 'essential' so I have thankfully had a job throughout this time. My company has upped cleaning. Before they upped the cleaning, I had a ritual of coming in, wiping down EVERYTHING in the office before my coworker got here. I'm feeling more comfortable not doing that as often right now. I'm not going to a lot of places, but I have put my house up for sale and bought another one. When I have showings, I wipe all the door handles, knobs, light switches, etc down...then do the same when the showing is over. I have friends that for them, life is back to normal. I'm not there yet, and have a lot of anxiety whenever I'm even asked to go to a party, ie family. So I bow out. My son, ugh. First of all, he's 20 so he's going to live forever...and his work was deemed essential but he was alone on a tractor for 16 hours a day during the worst of it. If he had to be somewhere, I was happy it was there. He poo poo's the masks, but wears them. He knows I take it seriously because when there was a 'scare' at my work I wouldn't even let him in my house for over two weeks, just to make sure. I am finding that, when I visited him (1 time), people in the smaller towns, rural areas are NOT social distancing, and NOT wearing masks. I don't mean to stereotype, it's just my observation. And my sister and brother in law, both of whom have health issues, were one of the first to go to a sit down restaurant in Indiana when it opened up. To OLIVE GARDEN. OLIVE GARDEN. I laughed because if I was going to get sick, it wouldn't be over Olive Garden I have NEVER been a fan of Pritzker, but my respect for him has grown throughout this. He seems to have been on top of it from day one, and because of that, our hospitals were NOT overrun...but now they are laying people off because no one is having 'elective' surgeries that keep them in business. So there's the economic fall out of it all. Strange times and I feel we're in the 'new normal' and it's going to be one of those milestones as 'before' and 'after' pandemic that we'll use.

I'm in NE Illinois. We have a mix here of people taking it seriously and people who don't. But I was happy to see the last time I had to go to the grocery store, everyone had a mask on. Even though a few wore them under their nose.
My neighborhood gave up on keeping their kids apart a month ago. I see them all the time out and about in groups. No masks, no social distancing.

I"m in a rural part of Illinois (Ogle County) and the small towns around me are just done. Hardly anyone wants to wear a mask - it is business as usual. Lots of arguing with stores who are requiring masks. Suddenly everyone in my town has a breathing condition and can't wear one. Sigh. (I actually DO have a serious breathing condition, but I wear one anyway if I need to go out). Starting to see the numbers go up because of it in our area and stores being shut down by the health department to have everyone test and the stores deep cleaned. But apparently, according to many on our town's facebook page, it is still just a hoax.

I’m in western Illinois, right on the border with Iowa. I’ve been much happier with things in Illinois as far as mask wearing and opening cautiously.
Even though the population is higher in the county in Iowa, until recently my county (Rock Island) had more positive cases most days. Now, almost every day the count is much higher Scott county in Iowa than here. Yesterday’s number for Scott County (39) in Iowa is just over double what Rock Island's is(19).
I have been seeing a few people in the Illinois stores without masks, even though they’ve been required. I don’t go across the river that often because they have looser regulations. Costco is fine because the store requires masks, but Sam's only recommends them and more people choose not to wear them.
I do think the rising numbers are a concern. We had gotten down to new cases in single digits and several times less than 5. But now the numbers are much higher. We have had more testing available, but more things opened and people have been more active and gathering in restaurants and bars, plus traveling.
there has been a lot of unrest here because ours is a bi-state community, and people wanted the rules and openings to match. Some people have been very unhappy about Pritzker's approach, but I applaud him for going by the science and data.

We also have a lake house up state and I have no desire to go back this summer. The willful ignorance of my fellow Hoosiers leaves me little faith in humanity. I am so sick and tired of all of the self appointed constitutional scholars with their opinions about wearing masks and people who have zero understanding of how this virus is spread and what that their personal responsibility is to prevent the spread. I saw another city here mandated masks today and actually called those who refuse to wear them in public a public nuisance. I couldn’t agree more.

Although I’m confident if we do go back it’s because the science is showing we need to.
