We went to Universal on opening day, but we are skipping WDW for now until some of the experiences we care about the most open back up. For example, we don’t want to go to Galaxy’s Edge without Savi’s.
We have reservations in the fall and winter. We’ll see what opens up when to decide which we’ll keep.

I'll be the first to say that I am actually blown away that WDW decided to open in the midst of worsening COVID conditions in Florida. It really IS all about the $$$ at the "happiest place on earth." :/

Careless decision IMO. Wouldn't even step foot in any southern state right now.

My sister registered us for the Wine & Dine 1/2 marathon as a birthday present which is supposed to be in November and I am 100% confident it will be canceled. She's in CT and I'm in MD and our states aren't quite the fireball of covid that Florida is and we'd like to keep it that way.

There is actually no way in heck that I'd set foot in Florida right now, never mind Disney World.

WDW wasn't on our radar this year as we usually go about every 4 years and it's only been 2 (plus the guys say they're "over Disney" ) but I might go if we already had planned to. If it were in any other state (or Florida wasn't so ridiculous right now) we'd probably go. Based on the pics/videos/chatter I've seen on social media WDW is taking this very serious. Crowd levels are unbelievably low, cleaning is way high, they're enforcing masks and have made many other changes. I'd feel safer going there than, say, Walmart. The state of Florida gives me pause, however.

I have to say that this has hit me so hard. We love Disneyworld and I want to go so badly, but until this pandemic is completely under control, we don't go anywhere. I'm heartsick that people are not treating this virus as the crisis it is. The level of entitlement and ignorance in this country is staggering.

Going to WDW in the Florida heat and humidity is brutal enough, then add a mask? No thank you! I don't care how short the lines are. I have neighbors that are going in the next few weeks. Luckily the beaches where I live have been fairly quiet so I will stick to that for now.

We have a trip booked for the week before Christmas, but at this rate, we'll be canceling.
I do think Disney has done an excellent job of taking all the precautions they can. I've been watching the cast member previews and vloggers reporting on opening day. The social distancing markers, sanitizing, etc. are as good as they can be.
The problem is that nobody is catching the virus from surfaces, the way we thought they were six months ago, when everyone bleached their groceries when they got home from the store. It's airborne. So while I appreciate that they are wiping down railings and ride vehicles, I don't think that is helping anything. If you happen to be in close proximity to someone with the virus, you have a good chance of catching it, and there is nothing Disney can do to stop that. And with the number of asymptomatic carriers out there, I'm sure that some park guests are carriers.
In Disney's defense, I do give them credit for taking an extra month to open - let's not forget that Universal opened a month earlier. That gave Disney extra time to prepare, but it's come back to bite them because the pandemic has worsened so much during that month. I do find it reassuring that there have been no outbreaks directly attributed to operations at Universal.
With regards to Hong Kong Disneyland, the shutdown there has been mandated by the city. There's an outbreak of about 50 cases in Hong Kong so they are shutting down all kinds of public gatherings. The outbreak has not been linked specifically to Disney.

Ahhhh man, I've reached my limit this month. Walt Disney World is reopening to a limited number of guests on Saturday. This makes perfect sense. When Disney World closed in March, there were fewer than 200 coronavirus cases in Florida. Now, there are more than 200,000, with thousands of new cases every day. Meeska mooska! You may be asking yourself, should I go to Disney immediately, because it is fun and I am bored? Here are some reasons to visit post-haste, rather than waiting for the virus outlook to improve. 1. It’s a Small World contains a magical amulet with the code to the coronavirus vaccine, coiled inside a vial behind the Italian gondolier, and only you can retrieve it. 2. Mickey ears ice cream bars apparently have an immune system booster that can ward off COVID-19 while also cooling us whimsically on a hot day. 3. The Epcot ball, a.k.a. Spaceship Earth, is actually a time travel portal that can take us back to the start of this year, at which point we can make entirely different decisions. 4. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train leads deep into an underground bunker where each dwarf pulls off his mask. They are all Doc, and they are highly trained medical professionals. 5. All teachers get in free, because it’s the least we can do as we prepare to ritually sacrifice them. 6. The quest for hidden Mickeys eventually leads to a cavern, in which stimulus checks glimmer among untold gold doubloons. 7. The Animal Kingdom Tree of Life is actually a tree of life!!! 8. Ursula the Sea Witch offers a way out of this mess if we trade our mellifluous singing voices, but she can only be reached from noon to 1 p.m. at the taqueria near the Voyage of the Little Mermaid live stage show. 9. Fairy Godmother is running a similar scam involving lab mice at Cinderella’s Castle. 10. Annual passholder perks include full medical.

Disneyworld is the last place on my list of places to visit even if there wasn’t a worldwide pandemic going on. This. It is not my thing. I have a friend who keeps trying to get me to go every two years. That is just not how I would like to spend my hard earned money and vacation time.

Won't be going. We were supposed to go for Spring Break. It was scheduled for the last week of our annual pass. We will not be renewing. It was a one-time thing for us. We went April 2019, February 2020 (princess Run), and had planned for April 2020. I am all about the reservations. We had all the dining and fast passes I wanted and I was really excited. There was a bunch of stuff we didn't do in February because we planned on being back 6 weeks later. We will probably go in 3-4 years from now. Then our youngest will be 5ish and can do all day and we'll go spend 2 weeks between there and Universal. Hopefully, we will be safer then!

I should add though that now I am sitting on thousands in Disney gift cards that I had bought to pay for our trip that didn't happen. So I guess at some point we'll do it again. Or maybe in a year or two we'll go to the Disney Hawaii resort.

Disneyworld is the last place on my list of places to visit even if there wasn’t a worldwide pandemic going on. Yep. My husband and I went last year for the first time and we don’t think we’ll ever go back. I can’t even imagine going there right now . I’ll be happy when Disneyland is safe again though, but I’m in no hurry.

I saw in the news last night that if FL was a country of its own, it would be #4 in most covid behind India and Brazil! (I can't remember the other one). That is seriously fucked up.

We cancelled our DL trip for September, we won’t be going until next year (hopefully). I think WDW had committed so long ago to opening up on Saturday and had staff and very limited booking so I imagine that is why they didn’t shut down on Friday when Florida started spiking again. I don’t doubt they will end up shutting again. It looks insanely uncrowded on the videos I have seen. There are snapshot photos that make it look worse but to me those are like the pictures people post where do and so looks drunk because the photo was taken mid blink or something. The rides are very well spaced and the queues are empty. Most rides have 15 minute waits and most of that seems to be just the walk from the entrance to the ride vehicle. DL cancelled their plans to reopen and don’t have a new date set.
We aren’t going because part of what we love are the character meals, fireworks, parades and holiday parties.

“The happiest place on earth” is the tag line for DisneyLand in California. WDW is “the most magical place on earth.” Disneyland. One word. Lowercase L. That is true. I don’t like the way it looks, just like I don’t like anything else about that place 🤣
