We are still waiting for the results of DH's covid test that he took last Wednesday. I know in some places people are waiting up to two weeks or more for results. However, his employee that tested positive, which is how he was exposed got tested on Friday 7/3 and had her (positive) result back by Monday 7/6.
DH started with a touch of diarrhea (sorry, TMI) on Sunday 7/5 which he attributed to too much dairy, which happens to him. He was sent home when he got to work Wednesday morning 7/8 and went to get tested as soon as they opened. Almost four hours in line, ugh.
So since then he has been fighting diarrhea and body aches and he runs a low grade temp in the evening. It's 90 degrees outside and he keeps saying he's cold.
After speaking to my cousin who is an RN and tested positive earlier this spring and had mild symptoms like this, I am pretty sure that he does have it, but we are in limbo until we actually get the test results.
We are doing our best to keep him away from the rest of the family, although considering we have been around him before we found out he was exposed.
So for now we have Schrodinger's virus and it is stressing me out.
Not sure why I am posting other than to try to diffuse some of the stress building up rather than just eating my worry.

So sorry. Wishing him a quick recovery whether it’s COVID or not. But I hope you get his results soon.

I’m very sorry. The problematic testing still this later stage is criminal. I hope your husband is feeling better soon, and your family stays healthy.
Schrödinger’s virus is the perfect description for the “been exposed and waiting for test results” limbo.

So sorry. I'd behave as though he is positive. Be sure you're taking good precautions in your home to minimize your exposure. Lots of cleaning and isolate him as much as you can.
I hope he's feeling better soon.

Yes, results can take awhile to get back. Mine took 10 days to get back. They were positive. I had symptoms of evening fever, cough and loss of appetite. After a few days of toughing it out, I did a video visit with my Dr. and got on a Zpak, inhaler and cough meds. I felt better in just a few days and now feel totally back to normal with just a bit of a lingering cough. If the fever persists, even though it is a virus, the antibiotics will help in case it went into his lungs and caused a bit of pneumonia. Be prepared to be treated like a leper though. My dr. wanted me to get a chest xray just to make sure everything had cleared up and it was hard to find a place that would take me in for one. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

The waiting is so hard! Especially with the wide range of symptoms that people with Covid are experiencing. My DD was tested on Saturday, 7/4 and developed a rash on Monday, 7/6 that kind of made me nervous (however she has very sensitive skin and occasional rashes anyway). She got a negative result on Friday, 7/10.
If he does come back positive I hope it is a minor case and that the rest of the family is spared.

Ugh, I took my son to be tested this morning. They said 3 to 5 days. He's had a fever that comes and goes. We don't know if it's the virus or related to his autoimmune because he's had a fever that comes and goes for years now. But, we had to rule out Covid so we can discuss this with the Dr. I really, really hope it isn't Covid. That still leaves us with a medical mystery, but at least one that isn't contagious. I really wish it didn't take this long. We need answers quickly.
I love the term Schrodinger's virus. It fits.

Another reason why more testing cannot be the only answer. If I have to wait 10=14 days for the results, I can't warn people I have been in contact with quickly enough that they can isolate before spreading.

It’s crazy how different the timelines can be for getting results back. I had a pre-op Covid test this morning and the hospital system does them in-house, so the results should be back today. They want the testing done early enough so they can schedule and test someone else if yours comes back positive. Waiting 10 days or more when you are having symptoms or know you’ve been exposed to a person who has Covid, is ridiculous.

My antibodies test came back in less than 24 hours. Perhaps because mine didn't need to be shipped out?

oh my gosh I am so sorry you are going through this! <hugs> I hope and pray your DH doesn't have it, and if he does, he recovers fully and quickly..and that you all stay safe.

Thanks so much for listening and validating my concern. This feeling of limbo is just so stressful and so distracting, I am having a hard time focusing on things I could and should be doing around here.
Of course, the question of now what keep nagging at me. If he is positive, do the kids and I immediately get tested even if we don't have any symptoms? Does DH have to be retested before returning to work? How long are we all quarantined for? Will the kids (young adults, really) be able to return to their schools on July 31/Aug 1 as scheduled! How long do I have to keep away from my almost 93 year old father to keep him safe?
I guess the hardest part of all this as everyone has said is the whole not knowing/Noone has answers, if there even are answers to these questions.

Hoping you get quick results to the test. I would absolutely assume he has it and keep a close eye on everyone else in the family.

That's crazy that it's taking so long!
The few people I know who have been tested here within the last two weeks have gotten their results within 48 hours.

I would absolutely assume he has it and would have taken the rest of the family in to get tested too. If he was sick enough to be sent home last Wednesday, he could have been shedding the virus in your home for several days before that. If you were exposed by him on Sunday and are asymptomatic you could be spreading it yourself even if you never feel sick. IMO anyone that your DH was around and in contact with since he found out he was exposed also ought to go in and get tested.
That’s exactly how contact tracing works to stop the virus, you catch the people who have it as early as possible, before they can expose others. But it doesn’t work very well when it takes over a week to get your test results back, ugh.

My antibodies test came back in less than 24 hours. Perhaps because mine didn't need to be shipped out? Antibody testing is different than a PCR test. Antibody does not tell you if you have had COVID, only that you have coronavirus antibodies. There are many viruses within the coronavirus family that an antibody test can and does detect, so it could have been COVID, but it may not have been.

I guess the hardest part of all this as everyone has said is the whole not knowing/Noone has answers, if there even are answers to these questions. Different "rules" for different employers over what is required to return to work. Here, some require two negative PCR tests before returning after a positive. Others require 14 days no symptoms and still others just label as being on "symptom watch." Also here, due to the relatively low outbreak and availability of testing, the health department will arrange family member PCR tests after a confirmed positive. I would check with your local health department for more answers relevant to the situation in your area.

Ex and all his immediate coworkers had to start working remotely again when one of their co workers was exposed...it took 9 days for the co worker’s test to come back negative. This was only 2 weeks ago.

My hubs traveled from FL to TX and back with 3 others. They all got sick and 1 had a covid test. Everyone acted as though they were positive until the negative results came back.

Around here, the tests take 7--14 days to produce results.
One of my former retail managers thought she had it, took the test, and was told to stay home until the results came in. The office and staff area were not cleaned. She was positive. Still no cleaning. One by one, the other managers are showing symptoms. They are told to stay home until the results come in and most have waited 9--10 days. They are forcing managers from other stores to keep the store open. Still no cleaning.
Do you really want to go out shopping?

My oldest was tested a few weeks ago after being possibly exposed by a teammate. We all stayed home while we waited for the results. At this point, since your DH has symptoms you should all be quarantined. There is such a high false positive rate with this test that with symptoms, it seems that people should assume that they could have it even with negative test results. I don't know about when people are able to go back to work after having it. I hope everyone else in your house stays healthy and that he feels better soon!

I should also add that they told us the results could take 72 hours, but the information they gave out said it would take at least 72 hours. We got DS's results in about 60 hours but some others on the team got theirs the same day. I don't know what the difference was since we went to the same clinic.

It probably helped that he went to Mayo.
