Anytime I have an appointment, or someone coming over, I can't get anything done. I'm constantly checking the clock so I'm not late, or estimating how long something will take so I'm done in time.
Today we have someone who was supposed to be here at 11 (it's now 11:15) to do an estimate on some outdoor work on our house. I just want it to be over...
I usually schedule appointments as early in the day as possible, or I won't get anything done, anticipating the knock on the door, or the phone ringing.
And now that we pretty much don't go anywhere due to the pandemic, often it's the only thing I have planned all day or week, and it's gotten worse.
Anyone else have this issue, or am I just weird?

I sometimes do it when I am going somewhere. If someone is coming here, I am the opposite, I start doing all this random crap that doesn't really need to be done right then and would have been put off for weeks if someone wasn't coming

I 100% know that specific anxiety. Heaven help me if I have to put in a maintenance request.

I totally do too. I set an alarm about 15 minutes before I know I have to leave, and it helps a little, but not all the way. I always schedule my appointments as early as I can as well. I have had nightmares that I was 5 minutes late for work and that all my stuff was put outside our classroom door!

You are not alone. I feel completely unsettled until it is done.

Yep. Or if I know I have to make a phone call, or am expecting a phone call.

I totally understand. I often tell myself, "Get this over with and everything will be fine!"

Yep. Or if I know I have to make a phone call, or am expecting a phone call. This is me. ^^ If I have to be on a call with a client, I can plan on getting nothing done in the hour before the call. I'm anxious about my headset working, being prepared enough for the meeting, going over my notes again, etc.

No, but I DO worry that I got the date/time wrong, as I have no concept of dates-apparently. 😁

Yes. Today I'm feeling it because I have therapy at 6. I'm not sure why I have that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I refuse to make any appointment for earlier than 10:30 am for that very reason, and no earlier than 11:30 for anything that involves DD because it’s even harder to get her going in the morning. I know if it’s for 10:30 or later, I will be up, showered, dressed and will have had breakfast with plenty of time to get where I’m going.
I don’t start anything, don’t even try to accomplish anything other than getting ready to leave the house. If I have to be somewhere by 8:00 am (or worse yet, any earlier than that), I’m running around like a madwoman to get ready early enough, and then I’m fighting rush hour traffic on top of that too which only makes things worse. Plus, if it’s something medical that’s early in the morning, it’s almost a guarantee that I won’t sleep at all the night prior because I’ll be so stressed out.

Since retirement if I have to set an alarm I don’t sleep well that night. I keep waking up to make sure I haven’t missed the alarm or overslept. It drives me crazy! I’m sleeping pretty good now since I have nowhere to go and nothing to do.

Someone coming over( for maintenance or delivery) no stress.
Going to an appointment, a little stress. Mostly if it's on the other side of town. It can take 20-25 minutes or an hour to get across town, depending on time of day and traffic, and whether I have to take freeway or surface streets. When time is of the essence, there always seems to be some sort of delay or interference......heavy traffic, freeway at a standstill, accident, detour, road closures, three lanes down to one lane, below the speed limit-slow poke drivers...then they speed up when they know someone is trying to pass/go around them, etc... I hate being late. I generally leave extra early and arrive in the vicinity of the appointment an hour or so beforehand, and I go and browse at the closest Hobby Lobby, Ross, Home Goods, Michaels, etc..., that way I only have a mile or two to get to the appointment 10 minutes prior to the designated time.

I was literally going to type this but finished reading the whole thread, first- which is unusual for me. And, all that pre-appointment worrying often leaves me totally tired after. I really try to plan lightly, if I can, on those types of days.

Yes! I get so stressed!
Even if it's something about the kids. Last week my 17 yr. old and I came home from our 2 week beach vacation a week early because she had pom tryouts. She had practice 3-5 M-W and tryouts started at 4:00 on Thurs. Even though I pretty much had the house to myself (just one kid at home was easy), I got nothing done. I was so nervous about her tryouts. I just sat around all day! She made the squad (it's her third year) so it was great! But my family got home Saturday, and my husband has to work from home for 2 weeks, so now nothing will get done. I wasted that week I had because I was so anxious about tryouts.

I'm not anxious but if I don't make an appointment first thing, I tend to be rushed. If I have a little time to kill then I invariably end up trying to do too much before I have to get out the door.

Yeah new psychiatrist I told I was going to bolt from my appointment. I didn’t want to face him but it’s all ok.

Yes! But, my problem is making the appointment in the first place! I have anxiety over calling to make the appointment. I usually put it off for as long as I can get away with! It’s weird, because I am not shy and I like to talk to people. 🤔

Definitely. Or rather, I can only speak from pre-Covid experiences, as nobody is allowed to come into our house except us yet.

Yes, now that you mention it... I don’t think I’d really isolated it in my mind as to what exactly it was but ‘appointment anxiety’ fits. Not terrible but yes, it’s there.

OMG, yes. It’s not effecting me right now during Covid. But we moved 45 minutes away from my Dentist, 30 from my Family Physician. I always took the earliest appointment possible, 7 for the dentist, 7:30 for the doctor. That way it was over and done with, my anxiety would spike the later the appointment.
When Covid conditions are over and I’m forced back into a physical office, it’s going to be even more anxiety inducing. I’ll be convinced I’m going to run into some traffic disturbance, so I’ll be there an hour early. Thankfully my MIL lives by both and has anxiety issues of her own, so she’d just open her door and tell me to sit until closer to the appointment.

I have it with maintenance workers in my apartment. I get nervous because I don't know the exact time they'll show up and if I'll be on a call or how my dog will react. The anxiety of not knowing is what causes me to not be able to concentrate during the day. My dog goes nuts when people knock on the door and that also stresses me out.
