mom those fabric shapes are not doing anything for me, that green one looks like such an odd shape, like half a tear drop, or santa's chunky covid-15 lb tummy!

sleepingbooty - assuming Liz Tamanaha is going to do another mini kit for Ali - I think you once said, that the kit is based on her prior year digitals ...so that would make it similar these? Yes, so far, Liz's mini kits for AE's DD release have been based on her previous year's Lilypad digi kit. My guess is that this trend is likely to continue for 2020 if she's featured again. However, you need to look at her actual full kit to get a good idea of the aesthetic. 2019's digital kit was:

Great news: the Simple Stories holiday binder from the 2020 Jingle All the Way line has a large spine one and 2 inch rings! It's sold for $20 with some page protectors and paper inserts. *adds it to the purchase list* Gah! I was planning on using a citrus twist 4x8 album because the 3x8 from Ali worked so well for our quieter Christmas (and let's face it, even here in NZ, it's going to be quieter than usual this year!!) but I think I need to use THIS album - with aaaalllllll the jingle all the way goodies - love the papers and the binder.... hmmmm... The holiday binders from Simple Stories are really good quality, too. I have several and they're all holding up great!

I don’t like them either, especially with all the holes in the letters filled in. I know I am old, but it looks like they were typed with a dirty typewriter. And I know I hate her writing all over everything, but this font is dullsville.

Another AE sneak. Fabric with adhesive back. 3in wide. In a set but all the shapes are similar. Do you think they are supposed to be like snow banks?

I'm waiting until Monday before purchasing anything. I've got some Spoooky, cardstock and Hey Santa in my cart but I need to sleep on it for the weekend. It should all still be in stock by then. Gotta think things through, allocate story ideas to some of the embellishments, do some basic planning before I jump in.

And maybe look through old albums and see what I really use vs what I buy and just think is cute.

Thanks for the update mom. I was pretty restrained. From hey santa - I bought the smaller paper pack, puffy stickers, gift wrap, ephemera pack & the specialty vellum. I was disappointed with the foil thickers last year (wouldn't stick) and I'm not loving the chipboard/sticker set...so I don't see myself using much. I wouldn't have bought the puffy stickers cos I don't really love the images, except I have a weakness for puffies. My Xmas wish to myself is to keep my DD purchases reasonable! Waiting for Ali's mini kits and if she has those puffy alphas + numbers on their own - I'll buy them, but that's it so far.

So I'm starting to think about what I want to do for DD this year and I'm considering doing digital and printing as a photo book. Is that crazy?
I always love the super crafty side of DD with the 6x8 albums, but they are so much work and I want my collection to be mixed up over the years. in 2018 I did a 4x6 mini so last year I did the regular AE 6x8 chunky crafty book. So this year I want to do something different again. I completed a photo book for 2019 week in the life and struggled to complete it, but I love the finished product and my daughter said she likes it better than the chunky albums. I think she likes seeing herself in a "real book" it makes her feel important, ha.
I think for DD it will be easier to do digital than WITL because it's just one spread per day and I will keep a fairly minimalist style. I will probably miss the products, but I think this would give me a chance to keep it simple so I can catch up on some other projects and focus on the photos/words. This is our first year in our new house so I'm hoping for some good photography and really want to focus on that. I would probably keep book wright open on my computer all month (the blurb book app) and use PSE to create my pages and add them to book wright daily. It would limit what I can share on instagram though and I usually like to share my pages daily to stay accountable.
Another thought I had was to do a photo book but leave some spaces to add flat embellishments/stamping/handwriting in once it's printed. This would take a lot of preplanning for sure, but I love the idea. Has anyone done anything like this?
Is anyone else considering digital/hybrid/a photo book this year?
I guess part of it will depend on how I feel about Ali's release, but so far I'm not excited about it.

Along with yellow...which I'm using for my covid documentation (nothing like a lovely sunny colour for a rather serious situation! Didn't expect it to go on and on.... even in NZ, we're back up in our alert levels again 😬)

I like playing with paper and I find it relaxing and therapeutic. I’m on my computer all day and even more so now. I need a break from it.

lasteve1 I do hybrid for all my projects but have never jumped into doing a full photo book but I'm so tempted. I just haven't found the right project. One year when I was really struggling to finish my DD (long after Christmas had passed), I did my 6x8 pages in Photoshop using pocket style templets from Paisley Press & BH, printed them out, added a tiny bit of embellishing with a puffy sticker, chipboard, tag, or whatever, and then just slipped them in full size 6x8 page protectors. It was what finally made me complete the project and was loads faster than doing it the more traditional way. Since then, I've done a combo of pockets and full 6x8 pages. I love the idea of leaving space in Blub book. I'd love to see photos if you go this route.

To anyone considering the photo book route: it's really fun, easy and quick even if you fuss over custom template changes like I do. I do my travel documenting exclusively this way. The only issue I have with Blurb is colour rendition with some of the cheaper photo papers. My advice would be to download both BookSmart and BookWright although Blurb pushes you to use BookWright. BookSmart is their earlier software and it is a little more user-friendly for beginners. Also, just wait before you print. They often have offers and even, occasionally, 30 to 40% off with free shipping both in the US and internationally. This will be your best deal. You just need to back up your book file and sit on the print order for a while. There are extra templates offered for free from Blurb here. You do have to follow the instructions to use them in a particular book but they're great for extra variation without having to fuss over measurements or getting the layout right to add in a recipe (super fun for DD albums). Wordier folks may want to consider a Blurb magazine. More time-consuming to make but the finished result is just wonderful.

What albums are we seeing so far and what do we expect to show up? I prefer a thicker spine.
So far:
I've seen the Simple Stories album kit and it's quite plaid. I used the holly album last year and was really happy with it.
Felicity Jane might have albums but they don't use a bookplate on the spine and that's my peeve.
Ali Edwards, of course.
Studio Calico still has that recipe binder that's half red/half white. That's an option.
