My father worked in a nuclear plant. He had to wear protective gear (like this: www.honeywellsafety.com/Products/Protective_Clothing/Mururoa.aspx?LangType=1036&site=/fr). As you said, that, physical labour and the FFP2 mask must have been extra hard. Poor Dad. I don't think he did, because she received her 'flu shot "voucher" by mail. I'll have to ask about that. Thank you so much for even thinking of doing that for her. I know it's not possible, but it still warms my heart. Girl, the scandal of the shitty low cost combinaisons Honeywell qui craquent... My mother was furious as a union representative in the nuclear industry. I'm guessing your father worked in nuclear waste management? If he was on plongée duty, I have a pretty good (abstract) idea of how tough the working conditions and environment were since my mother discussed this at length with other union representatives. She vented about this and other major issues often privately. From what I understand, those on plongée duty are the most poorly treated and underpaid in the private sector intervening on nuclear sites in France. If she got her Assurance Maladie voucher, she's registered as high risk and priority so it should've been all good. Ugh, how frustrating. There's no reason the pharmacist didn't fill her order then. I texted my stepfather and he thinks there may be another batch arriving at his local pharmacy. Can you call around and see if any pharmacist has some coming in? At this stage, it's worth spending 30 minutes on the phone and trying to secure a dose. It's unfair she didn't get one since she's registered high risk. He didn't work in waste management per se, but it always involved radioactive places. He went on to work for the private sector on nuclear plants after he retired and that was even worse. He decided to call it quits after a few more years. I already called all the pharmacies around us and do so on a daily/weekly basis, but no luck.

So I did a thing...made a little merry making station for my desktop for seasonal goodies. Merry making station by Paper Goddess, on Flickr Merry making station by Paper Goddess, on Flickr I was more excited by the fact that the weekend before Thanksgiving, I was able to take my time to refinish and decorate this crate. I haven't started any pages for my December album yet, and when I look at the videos/examples, it's a bit overwhelming. I am sure mine will be way more basic. Also watched Jingle Jangle on Netflix. It was cute, the graphics/effects were really cool. Story has a bit of a slowness in parts, but the music/dancing is good! The main little actress who played Journey was really good too.

I'm fascinated by this flu shot thing. They are pushing hard to get everyone vaccinated here as they don't want what they're calling a twin pandemic with flu and COVID.
We actually made an appointment in Sept. and they had a drive-through vaccine thing set up next to the COVID testing tent. My daughter and I drove up at our time and they waved us to the left for flu shots. The other lane of traffic went to COVID testing.
They checked us in from the car (the nurses were outside, all wearing PPE), then we drove into the big tent, rolled down the windows, then a nurse came by and shot us each in the arm. We and all the health workers were wearing masks.
Then we were off. It took 5 minutes. We are in West Virginia, US.
Now, I haven't gotten a bill yet but my health insurance typically covers all vaccines (except for travel vaccines like typhoid or Yellow Fever that aren't needed in the US).
Where are you all?

The main little actress who played Journey was really good too. Love your container. And agree completely about Jingle Jangle. It really needed to be about 30 minutes shorter, but then again I'm old enough to say that about almost every movie. Tell the story in 90 minutes. Unless it's based on a book it should be doable. I loved that it got made, and that so many people should enjoy watching it. I'm not really it's target market but I'm going to make sure my friends with kids sit down and watch. The lyrics to the Square Root of Possible are great. I hope lots of little girls are watching and listening.

The Bird and the Bee just released a Christmas album called Put Up the Lights and it's all kinds of wonderful if you like a more chill indie vibe... Little Drummer Boy features Dave Grohl! Ah, those sweet beats, man. Hello, I've been reading this thread for DAYYSSS (literally, DAYS--I just minimized the page when I was done to keep the page I was on). I am loving alllll the DD inspiration (and the GIFs, annnd I *might* be tempted to watch a cheesy Hallmark movie or two!) ! But I especially wanted to thank you, sleepingbooty for posting the vid of this song, because I LOVE it !!! I have NO Christmas spirit this year (yet ? ) and have not wanted to hear ANY Christmas music, which is very unusual for me, but this is a weird, sad year! I wasn't going to click the vid, but so glad I did! "Little Drummer Boy" is one of my top-five favorites, and I love hearing different versions! BUT.....this is SO weird.... When I went to QUOTE booty's original thread with the video of "Little Drummer Boy", it mysteriously switched to the BBC video of the cat on a zoomie vacuum !!!!

Testing to see if I can post a direct you-tube link of the wonderful song sleepingbooty posted MANY pages ago! (ugh, I wish I'd written down the page number you posted it on!). I FIIIINALLLLY learned how to embed an Instagram pik into a post today, so maybe I can do this one, too.

I’m intrigued by this...you get the flu vaccine sent to you? Who administers it? I just go to my pharmacy or primary Dr or other flu clinic to get one. No, it's from the pharmacy. I just kept the packaging (box) it came in after my stepfather administered it. There are no flu clinics here. Most people see an independent nurse or their general practitioner to have it injected. With a medical doctor in the family, I skipped the step of going to my doctor to be vaccinated. cbscrapper This is the packaging I meant: Thanks for clarifying! I was totally confused. I often keep the paperwork/drug info sheet they give you. I wish they gave out stickers like the “I voted” stickers at the polling places. “Got my flu shot” would be a great one! But sadly, a bandaid is the only sticker I get, and it’s not even usually a cute one. PS - love your little trees!

@millefeuilles Marjie, Marjie, Marjie! It was just announced last night our government is unlocking the 2.4 million doses of the flu vaccine they usually keep in reserve in case of emergency. GET ON THE PHONE! The pharmacies are competing with the EHPAD for these doses and have to get their exact order in before November 30 for an early December delivery. These doses are exclusively for people like your mother with the Assurance Maladie voucher! Call AND insist that this is an important vaccination for your mother due to her emergency visit after contracting the flu. Ask them if you need to come in with the voucher beforehand to lock in her reservation. Bring on the pathos when you're calling because this will be the final delivery batch for the whole country. Good (but a little stressful) news! Crossing fingers and toes for you... 🤞 blemon @millefeuilles and I are in France which is the world's number 1 vaccine sceptic country, woohoo! /s There is usually not a very high demand for the flu vaccine and it's not particularly difficult for people without the priority voucher to get it but this year is it's different and there's a significantly higher demand. Many pharmacies were out of the vaccine on release day (October 13 here, significantly later than the US due to the flu season starting later here traditionally). Only 9% of the flu vaccines sold in 2020 were for non-prioritary people which means that the usual doses the government orders doesn't even cover all of the people who get a free voucher due to their health issues or age through our universal healthcare system. Kind of alarming (but a good indication that in "precedented times" even the voucher folks don't embrace this vaccine). People with the voucher get it for free. Others, like me, have to get it reimbursed through a mix of universal healthcare (65% reimbursement) + health insurance coverage. Cost was about 11€ (US$ 13) at the pharmacy. scrapcat What an adorable Christmas scrap station, I love it! I spy with my little eye the new Simple Stories flipbook... 🎄 scrappintoee You did it! You embedded a video! 👏 So glad you liked that Little Drummer Boy cover and that you have a favourite Christmas song that may just be the key to unlock your festive spirit. I was listening to this jazzy Little Drummer Boy version last weekend:

Ladies, start your glittery engines because there is only ONE WEEK UNTIL DECEMBER! Next Tuesday, it'll be December 1st already... With one week left, it's time to: 1. Do a final inspection | Check your kit. Check your station. Get your photo equipment out of storage because, let's face it, most of us won't have used our big cameras and lenses much in 2020... Time to clean those lenses, pop them in and get some test shots done. Don't forget to check your ink levels for printing and have a look at the essentials to make sure you have your holiday scrappy must-haves like vellum paper or transparency sheets. 2. Check in with yourself | Some of us are struggling with find the festive spirit and drive to get this project going. Give yourself some time and headspace (and perhaps even a tiny bit of spending money) to get there this week. What makes you happy during regular holiday seasons? Can you find ways to guide yourself to finding your usual inner Christmasness by buying a couple of your favourite seasonally scented bath bombs or candles? Did you get yourself your special holiday treat this year? Take 20 minutes to compile all your favourite holiday songs into one long, seamless playlist or do your nails at home with a festive shade of red. Put up some lights and tinsel in your scrap room. Decorate the tree early. Watch one of of your favourite Christmas movies nice and early. Give yourself permission to work on your merriment. Booty said you're allowed! 3. Sit back and relax | This yearly thread has shown over and over again that December albums are a marathon, not a sprint. Gather your forces and let December come to you. 2020 has been a hard year. 2020 has not had much room for kindness and gentleness. It's ok to feel a little down. But it's even better to start feeling giddier because Christmas is coming...

I'm going to call all day until I secure a dose (three actually). Thanks for making me look like a bad, bad daughter !

joblackford yes! You are not alone..when I see anything over 90 minutes, I always figure in a 15 minute nap in the middle! lol. I also thought, dang this would really be great on the big screen for kids. I had a bit of "Polar Express" vibes. sleepingbooty thank u for the reminders! I am trying to not be intimidated by the videos sharing full blown pre-made pages for every day. I just can't think that way. So yes, it will be a marathon. And I figure if it goes into January a bit this year, will I even notice?! Thank u all for the love on my box - it was fun to make. The only thing I can seem to do successfully on the Silhouette is cut vinyl, it works so well for that. I stole the lights idea from Victoria Marie's cart! @ren I was just trying to figure out how to make a calendar! Thanks so much for this. For those of you trying to come up with stories to tell... If you have pets, I thought it would be fun to maybe tell a story or a December day from their perspective. I know my cats love to lay under the tree and mess with decorations and get into all kinds of grinchy trouble, so I may try that. Get low to take some photos.

We paused The Christmas House to watch the French president address the nation live on TV but I just had to come in here to share that the movie features a scrapbook! Took a screenshot to share with you. So far, so good. This movie is making me smile and feel jolly. ETA: Updating this as we've finished the movie. The Christmas House had me smiling and grinning all the way through. It hit the sweet spot and then some. I thought Hallmark were drowning the LGBTQ storyline among others to hide it all away but after seeing it, I think the three love stories in the family came together beautifully. While there is a storyline that takes the lead and it isn't the gay one, the other two aren't left behind. The first kiss in the movie actually goes to the gay couple. These three stories represent the three stages of love and the different challenges that come with each. The movie is a really good balance between Hallmark romance and realism. Heck, even the Christmas decorations are very plebian. The Christmas House is definitely on me rewatch list and highly recommended if you enjoy a less extravagant Christmas romance, too.

Checking in with my DD progress. I have finished prepping through day 5. 🙄 Lots to still do. For some reason, I am not panicking about it just yet (normally I would be). It'll get done. We are home for Thanksgiving so that gives me some uninteerupted scrappy time.

I drove myself crazy tonight. At the weekend I spent a whole day organising and tidying my office /craft /sewing space. Tonight I pulled out all the stamps that I could use ....well over 30. Which is insane. I can't decide on the style of alpha or numbers. I pulled out any stamps that are remotely related to home/walks/nature/cooking/tags/music/ watching/cozy/games/covid/frustration etc and that's not even including Xmas type stamps. just because I know trying to find them will derail me. But now its too much and my office looks like a bomb went off again!!!
I think I need to organise them, file them, and put them in a place away from my workspace.. But that means cluttering up some other space, which we don't have.
I know if I mix too many styles my album will look like a hot mess or I'll give up. Argh

sleepingbooty We watched "The Christmas House" last night, was it on your gay friendly holiday movie list? They aren't the "main" character, but they're there! I predicted the outcomes all around, but we're busting out the BINGO cards on Friday for DD. I start DD tomorrow, but that night is always reserved for "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles". Our elf arrives tomorrow, too. She's impatient and always sneaks away a little early. Things are getting exciting.. finally.

sleepingbooty We watched "The Christmas House" last night, was it on your gay friendly holiday movie list? I don't think I did a full-on LGBTQ holiday list this year but I dropped the news + trailer for each movie as soon as I found out. Love the idea of compiling everything in an easy accessible watch list, however! Will get to it today so that everyone can play along depending on which streaming and/or cable services they have.

LGBTQ-inclusive holiday movies & series 2020, the definite(ish) list (will update as I discover more):
1. Dash & Lily (Netflix): queer character is one of the main characters' sibling. Queer love is represented openly with PDA and caught-in-bed scenes. Set in NYC at Christmas, main plot revolves around hetero YA couple.
2. Friendsgiving (on demand streaming via Amazon.com): one of the main characters is queer (interpreted by Kat Dennings from 2 Broke Girls). Plot revolves around a friendsgiving celebration in a slightly cuckoo household circle. Can't comment on PDA as I haven't seen this one yet.
3. The Christmas House (Hallmark): married and trying to adopt queer couple is one of the three main love stories represented in this one. Queer PDA and kissing in this one, too.
4. Happiest Season (Hulu): queer icons all around for this one (Clea DuVall, Kristen Stewart, Dan Levy, Mackenzie Davis who I'm not sure is gay but definitely known in the LGBTQ community for her work in Black Mirror, Aubrey Plaza, Victor Garber, BenDeLaCreme and Jinkx Monsoon). Heck, they even got Tegan & Sara for the soundtrack! Christmas, going home to your family with your girlfriend when you're not out to them yet (ruh-roh)... From the trailer, it looks like there's definitely some queer PDA. Main couple and main storyline is all about being queer in this one. Premieres today!
5. The Christmas Setup (Lifetime): budding queer romance seems to be at the heart of this movie about a gay son coming home to the countryside from the city for Christmas ('tis the seasonal theme) and having his mother interfere to try and set him up with his secret high school crush who has just returned from Silicon Valley to return to a simpler, more fulfilling life. Fran Drescher plays the mother in this one. Trailer reveals queer kiss. Fun fact: the two main actors are married to each other IRL. *heart eyes* Out on December 12!
6. Dashing in December (Paramount Network): main storyline here, too, revolves around budding queer love. Very similar to The Christmas Setup; urban dweller adult son returns home to the countryside for Christmas where his mother is expecting him. New ranch employee Heath, his opposite, catches his eye... Gay cowboys inline dancing? Yes, please. No clear kiss shown in the trailer but I'm pretty sure we'll get some PDA. Premieres on December 13!
7. A New York Christmas Wedding (MarVista, rights to stream acquired for *some* countries by Netflix): bride-to-be in a hetero relationship gets a visit from her guardian angel who offers to let her travel back in time and see what her life would have been like if her best (female) friend had not died. Two different life stories unfold, one in a queer relationship.

A disclaimer about Happiest Season: it's not a feel-good rom-com and has left some viewers feeling bummed. Just in case you were planning to play this to feel uplifted.
