I've spent a bit of time looking at the options available to us, and reading all the opinions posted here, and this is what I've concluded: First of all, we have to accept that there is no perfect solution. The only way we could have something that looks/works like the old gallery is to pay for a custom site, and that's simply not feasible. Second, as I've already mentioned, I do believe we need to have a presence of some kind on Pinterest, and use that to attract new members wherever possible. More about this to follow. But for an actual gallery, I have come firmly back to the view that a Flickr group is the best option. Flickr and Pinterest have many of the same advantages, but Flickr has a few extra: - Groups are searchable. That is, you can search within a group. You can't search within a specific Pinterest board. - Similarly, you can use hashtags in Flickr, and see all images in the group with a particular tag. (The two points above swing it on their own for me) - Images in Flickr groups don't form part of an individual's 'feed', you just see them if you choose to, so your feed won't get completely swamped by gallery uploads, as it probably would in Pinterest. - Flickr groups have no size limits - Pinterest boards do (not that it's likely to be an issue for a long while to come!) - Flickr group admin rights are automatically passed to someone else if the original admin leaves, a Pinterest account always remains with its creator. - Flickr users have the option to choose whether you reserve all rights to your photo (full copyright) or allow use in other ways through different license types (more info here), and whichever you choose is explicitly stated on the photo page. So, I have set up a Flick group ready for us to start using, but I now need to write some instructions on how to join/use it etc. Within that I want to include some guidelines about what info is useful to have in the image description, which is where I need your help please. Q1 - When looking for or viewing a gallery item, what info do you consider to be essential? e.g. project type (layout, card, etc) Q2 - What additional info do you consider nice to have? e.g. products used ETA I've posted the instructions and enabled the link, but will update the guidelines with any suggestions from you as they are made

Q1- agree. If I am browsing for inspiration, being able to go straight to the project type I need is great.
Q2- nice to have the manu/ product info if scraplifting or using specific stash is the goal. Also nice to have: If it is a scrapbook page- number of photos used. If this is feasible, I miss those print mag articles which gave this info. I might be a dinosaur in that the trend for single photo layouts still dominates a lot of scrapping, but I am still a multi-photo scrapper.
Thank you!

Q1 - I like the idea of being able to zero in on exactly the type of creations I want to see.
Q2 - If there is a technique involved I would like to see a link to a tutorial or some such thing. I know that is not always possible but it would be nice when it is available.
And thanks for setting this up.

You are amazing!!! Thank you!! Q1 - When looking for or viewing a gallery item, what info do you consider to be essential? e.g. project type (layout, card, etc)
I definitely like the idea of being able to search by project type or theme such as wedding or project life or mini album/December Daily
Q2 - What additional info do you consider nice to have? e.g. products used
Really, product used is nice - so if there is a particular paper that I fall in love with, I can find out what it is so I can look for it to buy.

Ooooh, thanks! IMO, project type would be the essential search feature. After that, theme (holiday, sports), technique (sewing, watercolor) and manufacturer seem to be my most commonly used search options.

No themes please. Searching by project type is the best. I don't make cards or do other crafts. It is much easier to search by type.

Thank you, Fairy PodMother! I've missed having a gallery.
I like having mixed sizes (layouts and cards together is fine: I get inspo from it all) and products used would be nice. It's sometimes hard to tell what the ingredients are if it hasn't been spelled out. I like that the flickr layouts have the username watermarked onto them. Looking forward to lots more gallery entries!

Thank you so much!
Q1 - By project type; i.e. layouts, cards, mini albums, paper crafts. Q2 - Themes and manufacturer, especially if we hope to lure design teams to post work.

I like themes, Disney, baby, boy child, girl child, Halloween, Christmas, DD, etc. Thank you for setting this up! I agree with Skellinton: Themes/type is important! Something as vague as 'card and layout' isn't descriptive enough to zoom into what you are looking for unless there are sub-categories. Other theme ideas: Easter, wedding, project life, school, family, summer, zoo....

Merci boucoup, Fee pod mere! Thank you very much, Fairy pod mother!
I know how much research you have done for us to have a gallery and to set one up on Flickr. I immediately thought of Flickr when I read the first lines of this thread. I agree that Flickr will have more of the features we need and want as well as being more searchable--and even more secure for when peas don't want their photos to be completely public.
I have been using Flickr since its inception and love it--even for photo hosting. I love being able to search the site and view the works of other photographers and artists. Having our own group will be fantastic!
Please let us know if you need funds to get everything set up. Some Flickr features are not free, but their prices for so much storage are remarkably modest for all the services/customization they provide.
I'm confident that the peas can customize search features that make us all happy.
In my opinion, the more details we use on our gallery posts, the faster and easier searching for the desired results will be. I think this is where hashtags can become very handy--just searching for "cards" or "scrapbook layouts" will give a ton of results without much customization.
Whereas searching for "cards" that have [HASH]poppies and were made using [HASH]Copic markers and [HASH]Cricut #Anna Griffin will narrow down the results for the desired project. (*the above was just an example---I don't know how to best set up a search program)
Im so glad that we're including other projects than just scrap booking and cards. There are many other papercrafts as well as tons of various projects in other mediums. We have so many gifted peas in all sorts of mediums, and I for one would love to see so much more of their work.
I'm also getting into more papercrafts as well as investing in Copic markers. This gallery will really help give me more inspiration as well as give me a place to share my projects with others. IRL I don't have many people that understand arts and crafts and how much labor it takes to create these projects.

I'm Flickr illiterate. How do you search within a group, both on the website and on the app?

I'm Flickr illiterate. How do you search within a group, both on the website and on the app? I don't know about the app, but on the website, while you're on the group page, just enter a search term into the search box at the top right. It will give you a number of options in a dropdown, one of which is to search "This Group"

I was not aware there were size limits in groups. Ever since the site got rid of Pro subscriptions, everything is free including unlimited storage. The only charges that I know of would be to get rid of ads and those of us Pro oldies that were grandfathered in. What am I missing?

I'm so happy! I have the day off today (yeah - remember to honor our Veterans) and have been spending time reading more posts than usual. I happily stumbled across a sentence in a reply that made a comment about our new gallery!
What a great way to motivate me to get my household chores done. When I'm done, I can spend more time here before heading back to work tomorrow! I've been needing some inspiration.
I typically search by theme.
Thank you Fairy Podmother!!
