Okay, so apparently I can now leave my island. How do I find the rest of you? Also, I accidentally filled in a glowing hole before I could plant some money... Any way to get it back? or will another one appear? And...how the heck do I catch fish? I'll google that one in a minute... but they all run away from my hook even after they nibble on it. And...Do I have to leave my island to catch all the different insects/fish/whatever for the museum guy? I need something like 8 more and i'm not finding anything different now. I catch everything and sell it to what's-his-name in the main tent, but I don't know how to find new ones for the museum guy. I got a letter from "Mom", lol, and then a gift and she sent me a different fruit (apples -- my fruit is pears) so I planted them. Hope that's what I was supposed to do. Even though I haven't done anything much yet I'm having fun. I did make a pole vault stick so that was fun. Oh, and I've been stung by wasps twice. I didn't make any medicine though because what's-his-name will buy wasp nests for a good number of bells. I'd rather make money that look good. lolol

That's how I accidentally filled it in...I was pushing all the buttons on the controller. lol Thanks for the video, I'll go take a look. Darn fish.

Lol. I don't understand any of what you all have said. Right now I just have a tent, and my two buddies also have tents. Can I move them if I want to later on? I have no idea what's a good layout and what isn't a good layout. I've spent my first hours collecting things and selling them to make money. I have about 10,000 bells now. No idea if that's good or not. Do weeds regrow? That seems to be a quick way of making money. I don’t have much advice about what makes a good island design, but I can tell you a few things to avoid. DD set everything up before I was really paying attention and there are a few areas that make me insane. In some places she put the houses too close to the river so you can’t walk through behind them, and if you’re chasing a butterfly or fish and need to get through that area it’s a no go. You can’t even vault across. You have to go ALL the way around, and by the time you get around the bug is either gone or has flown back to the other side. So frustrating! She’s done the same thing in a few areas between buildings with hedges and fences which I realize could be changed, but DD won’t let me fix them to make things more navigable. Another thing that would have been helpful before she put all this stuff in would have been to think ahead so that it could be terraformed in such a way that you are able to run in a continuous loop around the island without constantly going up and down levels. I wouldn’t mind some zigging and zagging, but the need to constantly have to whip out the ladder to climb up and over multiple levels to get from the beach on the left to the beach on the right is a huge PITA. She finally added a few inclines at my urging, but we still can’t get from A to B easily and now it would be really hard to change. I like how she set up the shops and museum close together, and she clustered the villagers in groups which makes it a little easier to find out who is crafting. She also has several crafting benches located throughout the island in convenient places which is nice. When your net or slingshot or fishing rod suddenly craps out, you don’t have to run halfway around the world to craft another one, especially at night when Nook’s Cranny is closed and you can’t just buy one.

I would carry one bag of medicine around. I usually carry more in case my villagers are sick and ask for medicine.

I didn't make any medicine though because what's-his-name will buy wasp nests for a good number of bells. I'd rather make money that look good. lolol The "Glowing Hole" is your money hole. You will get one each day. When you dig it up, you get 1k bells, but you can bury 1k , 10k, or 98k bells. This will cause a little sapling to appear. Move that sapling somewhere safe because it will, literally, grow 3x the amount you buried. However, the 98k bell is tricky and you could lose them all. The safest bet is always 10K so you don't lose bells. Even 1K is better than none. We've all covered our holes accidentally, don't fret. You do not have to go to other islands, but there are certain times / conditions that make bugs / fish appear. For instance, August 1st meant we got some new bugs / fish / sea creatures available, but we also lost some that we had in July. There's a big list Here! Your "in game" Mom will send you something each month, you will get the fruit once and that is your "sister fruit". That means, when you do start going to Mystery Islands (go to your airport once you're given your first Nook Mile Ticket (NMT) and they'll ask you if you want to fly and to use your ticket) you could land on an island that is full of trees with that fruit. You'll also want to get coconuts after you fly to your first Mystery Island. The other fruits we will have to bring you or you'll have to get from us. You should be able to start visiting us if you've added us into your Friends on your Switch and our "Gates are open". Then you wouldn't use the NMT option, you'd just say "visit a friend" in one of your options at the airport. If more than 1 person is open, you get to choose which island to visit first. You can catch the wasps! They sell for 2500 bells each. When you shake the tree, face it directly head on, with your net out. When you shake, if a nest falls out, your body will automatically turn to the nest and you can click to catch it with your net. Practice a few swings so you know your button ahead of shaking time though. Blathers will want a wasp too. He wants one of all bugs, fish, and sea creatures. Hope that helps a bit!~

She finally added a few inclines at my urging, but we still can’t get from A to B easily and now it would be really hard to change. I made a single pass-through around the back of my island. I had to go to the middle level and remove one "unit" of land in a straight line east to west. Then I went to the ground level and did the same thing. (For newbies, I had to do ABOVE before below because if you try to remove the ground-level cliff first, then you get a warning that the cliff above could collapse.) Now I can go from the northernmost side of my island to the other side easily. It was easy and didn't cost money (no inclines) but in the morning I can make a full jog of my island when I'm looking for my message bottle etc.

That's how I accidentally filled it in...I was pushing all the buttons on the controller. lol Thanks for the video, I'll go take a look. Darn fish. You get the glow hole once a day, so look for it every single day. Don’t bother putting in more than $10k bells though, the odds for it to triple at more than that are really slim. Also make sure you hit all of your rocks every day, and dig the three holes behind them before you do so you don’t get knocked back when you hit the rocks with your shovel. One of the rocks has bags of bells and coins in it, but it’s in a different one every day. Also, some of the pine trees and non-fruit trees will have coins worth $100 bells in them, along with one piece of furniture in a leaf. Be sure to have your net handy before you shake them though. You can prevent getting stung by the wasps by holding your net and standing directly in front of the tree before shaking it. If the wasps come out, immediately spam the A button to swing the net repeatedly once the animation makes you turn in surprise and you will catch the wasp every time. I save up the wasps in my storage (I think you can get five a day) for when Flick (a red dragon guy) comes, because he will pay 1.5 times more than the Nook brothers will for bugs. One other tip for catching the bugs on trees. If you have trouble figuring out how close you need to be, try putting a stick or rock (something that will take up one space) directly in front of the tree. That way it will help you know where to stop and swing the net before scaring off the bug.

Good morning! I'm open! Bunches of stuff out. I left a bunch of iron nuggets and flower seeds for our newer players, too! I could never get enough iron in the beginning! Kate * I left a rusted part on the bench by the airport for you. SockMonkey- I love your island. All the flowers!!!! Thanks for putting stuff out, I took a few things that I needed and watered some flowers. Could people please share tips for getting the different colored flowers? I haven't taken much time to figure that out yet. Also- should I bother paying off my basement? Do you get something when the house is completely paid for?

Pay attention to the icons - the bags mean from seeds (or native to island), and the stars mean they're hybrids (bred from other flowers).

Wasps- if you stand directly in front of tree (you face north with tree right in front of you) with your net in your hand and shake the tree your character will automatically turn towards the wasp. Do not move just keep pushing the a button and you will always catch the wasp and not get stung. This only works if you are directly in front of tree. Meaning you are facing north towards the tree looking at the back of your head if that makes sense. I’m forever grateful for this info from Reddit I stumbled upon because I was the worst wasp catcher and was always getting stung. Plus wasps sell for a decent amount, especially if Flick the chameleon that loves bugs, is visiting. I haven’t read many responses yet but for new folks so not sure if you know but shaking trees each day you can get 2 pieces of random furniture. One will drop (in the form of a green leaf) from the hardwood trees so keep shaking trees all day long until you get 2!
