Dinner here tonight will be the ostrich steak we should have had last night. There will also be salad - meals get pretty repetitive around here during the summer!
After such a hot day yesterday, we had storms overnight and today was much cooler, though it has rained on and off all day, making it hard to get out and exercise. Still much better than the heat though and I hope it means I sleep better tonight.

Good morning leannec. Wait I just realized it's afternoon here. Still feels like morning because I slept in so late this morning. I'm having a really slow morning. Jeremy just made me a sausage, egg, and cheese on an English muffin for breakfast. sueg we are having rain today too. No running for me today. But I like how cool it is. I put a pork shoulder roast in the Crock-Pot this morning. I did a sweet and spicy Asian marinade on it. I plan to add carrots and snow peas and serve over soba noodles. It's a new recipe for me. I hope it is delicious.

I am getting a lot of experience with yeast baking, so today I am going to make a childhood favourite -- meat buns.
You use finely cooked ground beef with some gravy, finely chopped sauted mushrooms and a bit of sour cream or mashed potatoes.
Make the yeast dough as for bread, when finished raising, take a small piece of the dough and straighten it up and put in the middle of the dough and seal up underneath the filling. Let rise on the baking sheets & bake. I do add taco seasoning to the ground beef for added flavour.
Bake as usual. I find these to be very yummy. I freeze them and they are easy to defrost in the microwave on low. My dgc love the buffalo chicken flavour as well. Much easier to put frozen in the lunch box and are thawed by lunch time.
Off to bake . . .

We are going out for a drive and lunch so I don't plan to be hungry for dinner. I will grill the chicken that was bumped from yesterday's dinner and put out a veggie plate for those that need two meals today. I've had ostrich eggs before, sueg, but never eaten the meat. Looking forward to hearing what it tastes like.

I'm making chicken tortilla soup. Dh will have a salad, as well. In fact, I'm going to run outside and pick my pepper, Peter Piper. I love this time of year, because I can just go to my garden and enjoy dh's wonderful produce. The rest of the day is devoted to my puzzle and a bit of Animal Crossings. leannec, have fun storming the mall. I am not a mall person. All malls in my area are closed anyway. Enjoy your day and please make sure to do at least one thing that you love to do.

jubejubes those sound yummy. I’d be all over the buffalo flavor too. You can make them at home, using fresh pizza dough from the store. Let the dough rise a bit in a warm place. Pinch off about an egg size piece of dough, add the filling, tuck under the dough, let rise & bake for about 12 minutes at 400*.

Happy Weekend ladies! Thank you all so much for the prayers for my nephew that is involved in the Marine accident off the CA coast. He was able to call yesterday and say he is fine. It was a long day and night for us all. Especially my niece, her husband and two daughters. She said it was a bad connection and he was only on the line long enough to say "Mom, I'm ok". We know no other details, but she heard his voice, so we can relax now, but continue to pray fo rthe families that are still wondering and waiting. jeremysgirl- I just finished my grocery run, put it all away and fridge clean out. I am going to find a way to get to the store during the week. It was horrible busy this morning. ugh. Yesterday I spent some time on my sons' in-laws boat, What a relaxing day and it felt so amazing to disconnect from the new job for a day. DH is still at the ranch and I don't know hat dinner will be , probably a salad and a glass of wine. :-) I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

We are having sausage egg roll in a bowl for dinner.

austnscrapaddict, I'm so happy to hear about your young Marine. It's a tragic story for 8 young men. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I don't like garlic or rather it does not like me. It upsets my stomach. I do cook with it for DH, but I keep away. I tried to persuade DH to walk with me early this morning, but he wanted to stay in bed. I came home after 3 miles and found him up and dressed for a walk, so I headed out and did another 2 miles with him! I'm being LAZY today and trying not to think about heading back to school in the morning! I have some chicken breasts in a brine mixture right now and those will go on the grill this evening. I've also made a cabbage ramen salad that came out pretty tasty. I hope we are all mellow this Sunday.

austnscrapaddict so relieved for your family. Sad for the 8 families who’s loved ones didn’t fare so well Coincidentally at the grocery this AM and elderly man who kept being wherever I went in the store REEKED of garlic. Initially I thought it could be my breath in my mask. I grew up with all Italians literally. Every single childhood friend was Italian. I love Italian food but I do not like excess garlic. I feel like all those Italian moms did not go overboard. My cousin’s dh is Italian and a chef. He does not overuse it either. Blah blah blah Making kebabs with salad and roasted potatoes scrapmaven my peppers are terrible. So much so I started over in pots on the patio. The ones in the ground keep dropping the leaves & fruit.

Not sure what’s for dinner. I might make a quick stirfry with some leftover beef tips that I have from last nights dinner. Hot and humid here again in western New York supposedly we’re going to get down into the 70s in the next couple of days which will be nice. Especially since the pool guy came and put the new liner in the other day. And now it’s being filled via the hose from my mothers house. Milk farmers here used to haul water in their empty tanks but they don’t do that anymore so have to use the hose

There will be left over chicken for salads this week. But I have left over from todays lunch for lunch tomorrow. So no salads till Tuesday.

I am doing a ham in the instant pot, roasted carrots, and spicy garlic sautéed green beans. I'll probably do a box of mac and cheese for DH and DD but I am trying to do only whole grains right now so none for me. I hope I can resist. 😩
Does anyone have any veggie side dishes they love? I'm trying have my plate at least 1/2 veggies but I know I am going to run out quickly of things. I hate mushy veggies and too often that's what I end up with.

I defrosted some chile and cheese tamales, so we’ll have those with frijoles and zucchini tonight. Last night’s fried catfish was DA BOMB. (Yes, I know I’m dating myself.) Like teddyw, I like a little garlic in most things but not excess garlic. austnscrapaddict, I’m so glad to read the good news about your nephew. Thank goodness he phoned home!

austnscrapaddict I'm grateful that your nephew is safe. My prayers are w/the families of the men who lost their lives. teddyw, I think you might need to change your soil next spring. Plus, check your fertilizer. I'm not the gardener. I just learn some stuff from dh. tuesdaysgone, garlic is the #1 enemy for anyone w/a digestive issue. I love garlic and will never be able to enjoy it, despite the fact that I use it almost every night. My mil hates it and I don't understand. The flavor is so good and it's much healthier than salt. Tonight's dinner has changed to rechauffe pizza. A new med has completely sedated me. I'm a few days in and it's not improving. I'm dumping both the med and the idea of operating heavy machinery!

austnscrapaddict, so glad your nephew is ok. sueg, I've never had ostrich. Seems like it would be gamey. jeremysgirl, yes, that meme is how I feel about grocery shopping lately too. A chore. We're all working this weekend so it is fend for yourself. I have a bagged salad and flavored tuna salad sandwich I'm bringing to work tonight.

austnscrapaddict, so glad your nephew is fine! How scary. I love looking at what everyone is making. My son made french toast pancakes* this morning because my neighbor gifted us with a gallon (!!!!) of maple syrup from Wisconsin. I can't taste the difference, but my son could! I have to come up with some pescatarian food for dinner tonight. I think I may do crab cakes and potatoes au gratin. Ugh. I should have started sooner! *buttermilk pancakes that are cooked, then dipped in egg/cream/cinnamon and lightly fried - delish!

Good early evening.
We got to visit with my sister and BIL that had the bone marrow transplant at a distance, but was so nice to be able to see them.
Did a grocery pickup earlier today and then just vegged the rest of the afternoon.
We are having taco salads for dinner.
leannec That is my kind of garlic. I know my son usually cringes when I get the garlic out. He likes it, but not as much as I do. We have a place here called Mod Pizza that you can build a salad from any of the pizza toppings. They have roasted garlic and it is heaven. I don't know what they do to it, as I can't make it taste like they do, but it is as lucyg would say, "da bomb".
cadoodlebug Your meme is a riot. I've seen other braille humor and it does make you have to think for a moment. lol
jeremysgirl I love your meme as well. I am not fond of grocery shopping or cooking. I use to a bit years ago, but it is a huge chore to me now. If we ever get to any type of normal, I will probably still do a lot of grocery pickup. Might actual shop here and there to see if anything new catches my eye, but just not my thing.
jubejubes We use to make meat buns with Rhodes frozen dinner rolls. Depending on how big you want them, we would usually pinch them in 1/2, but you can use the whole roll, but that does make a pretty ginormous bun.
austnscrapaddict So glad to read the wonderful news that your nephew is okay. Condolences to those families that lost their loved ones. {{{Hugs}}} Everyone's meals sound great and look wonderful. I love getting ideas for future meals.
Encouragement for those that have to go to work tomorrow and I hope everyone has a good week ahead.

He was able to call yesterday and say he is fine. I'm so glad your family isn't one the the ones dealing with a loss after this terrible accident. Does anyone have any veggie side dishes they love? I'm trying have my plate at least 1/2 veggies but I know I am going to run out quickly of things. I hate mushy veggies and too often that's what I end up with. I hate mushy vegetables, too. In the summer we eat a lot of grilled or raw vegetables and in the winter a lot of roast vegetables. All year long I saute or make a stir fry. Zucchini, peppers, onions and asparagus are out favorites to grill. Damndelicious grilled vegetablesCauliflower is an amazing vegetable IMHO. Cauliflower Rice Califlower Steaks
She also has a ton of great sheet pan and stir fry recipes. I'm not a huge fan of lettuce based salads so always making cabbage based slaws or something like this Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad.

I've got the chicken biryani that seveerb linked up a few weeks ago. It's my first go at it, so I hope it turns out. I'm realizing I should have bought some naan or something to go with it but I'm always disappointed in the ones I get from the store.
