wow. that was powerful.
i am not sure how certain americans can think "we got this" and can believe it's going well??? bury the head in the sand a little further perhaps?
i guess it is looking for "facts" that support what you want to be true. and double down based on those "facts". so sad. and so avoidable.

Thanks for sharing. Covid lays bare our failures as a society. I often think of the Martin Niemöller poem as it applies to our safety net. We are unconcerned of those that fall through the cracks because the are "others", but I think the measure of a society is how it treats the most vulnerable. We are such a wealthy country and we still have child hunger. How is that possible?

This was hard to watch. Very sobering.
I mean, I already knew how most of the world feels about the way America in general, and Trump in particular , dealt (and is still dealing with ) this situation.
The genuine shock and horror and sadness on the faces of the people in this video just drove it home even more.
The unemployment graph...... it took me a while to understand that, as well.
I am embarrassed to live in America.
Thank you for posting.

As a non-American, can confirm. The US are seen as one of the very worst and the utter failure of the Western nations. There is no excuse for what's happened and continues to happen. Rich, advanced, educated. This is the final confirmation of the absolute fall from world leadership.

The collective looks on their faces at the ultraviolet disinfecting press conference. 😐
And also the death toll. 😔 Although to be fair - comparing to China? - I kind of raised my eyebrows at.

I was crying for the woman who was crying for us. Heartbreaking! Yet here we are. And so many think it is still a hoax or not something to be concerned about. People in my own family think it is blown way out of proportion.

In Canada, we often talk with friends and family about what is happening in the US. For such a wealthy and powerful country the covid response has been disappointing. Here, our attitude of doing something for the greater good seems to be more prevalent versus the ‘no one can tell me what to do’ attitude. But when we all pay in to socialized medicine we have a different perspective. Being on the pea board has helped me see that this above attitude isn’t the only attitude in the US so it must be difficult to be stuck inside it. My sister is here from the US right now and my BIL is aghast at how there is so much compliance with gov’t regulations. He keeps asking me why we do this and why we follow this rule and we say because we’ve been asked to. He now sees what a difference it can make when the population believes its leaders. Eta - I guess I should say and when the leaders are worth believing. Hugs to everyone in a hot zone.

DH works with people from 29 NATO nations. The US’s response is not looked upon favorably. Not at all. And Trump is just a laughing stock.
Belgium just closed its borders yesterday for us (US military personnel). We had over 450 test positive yesterday in the country. Roughly 80% of those cases are in the Antwerp area. And our numbers are actually going down now. Curfews were imposed in the Antwerp area and many avoided the area. That’s how you get control of the virus. You wear a mask. You stay home. You take care of each other.

honestly, I haven't seen some of those images before this, myself. MASS FUCKING GRAVES?? Lines of cars snaking thru a parking lot to get to a food pantry?!? Really?!?
And I am ashamed of being an American, being so ignorant, and doing so little to help my fellow Americans.
eta: just that graphic showing the difference between CHINA'S death toll and the US'S should be enough to make ANYONE vote Democratic come November, but it won't be. They would say "fake news" or that it's twisted, not true, tout the 2nd Amendment, Roe vs. Wade, God, whatever...
eta2: I know that's not the real number for China's death toll, but still- they have a HUGE population compared to the US, and they have their outbreak under control. And we don't.

Perhaps surprising yet refreshing. And I should add that not everyone here is a rule follower but it is more the majority.

My close friend works in one of the Embassies here. A person in the embassy has the virus. They quickly tested everyone and shut the embassy down. All tests had results came back in 24 hours.
Morocco is shutting down the cities as the outbreaks occur. They routinely send people into stores and areas to make sure safety protocols are being followed. They promptly shut them down if not. Everyone wears masks because it's the law.
When people mention the States...they just shake their heads.

And amongst millions of people who voted for that leadership, and plan to again, despite everything that has happened. That's what really really really terrifies me.

I’m constantly having to explain it to my family in Australia. They just don’t get it, at all. it’s been eye opening for them. Not just the government, but the selfish attitudes of the people. At least living here, I can provide a counterbalance perspective, that not everyone is like that, and are lot are just devastated and heartbroken for this country - hell, I am myself.

Thanks for sharing. I probably spent too much time following the news at the beginning of the shutdown so the images of mass graves (New York's Hart Island) and miles long food lines (could have been any one of the stadiums and distribution centers all over the country) were not new for me but seeing others respond to those images is humbling (not sure that's the word I want - humiliating? shameful? embarrassing? depressing?).

And we don't. The mass graves were in New York. Not sure if they've done that anywhere else. The food pantry lines in Texas are on our evening news several times a week. In fact, I have the early news on and they were just showing the food pantry lines from today and I made another donation to the food bank. One issue--at least early on--was that with everyone stocking up the groceries stores, which are major contributors to the food banks, had nothing left to give.

Racism is nearly 100% responsible for 45’s presidency. We can go back and forth but it’s abundantly clear from where I sit.
Injustice trickles down. Had America tackled the issues of race during Obama’s presidency or hell decades before we wouldn’t be watching a video like this.

What on earth is the point of being the richest country on earth if you don’t use that wealth to benefit all of your citizens? I don’t understand why so many Americans are proud of their wealth (as a country) while so many of their population struggle with poverty their whole lives - no matter how hard they might work.
