Outside doesn't matter if there's no social distancing nor masks. Good lord people, get a brain.

My very conservative aunt, who has never ridden a motorcycle in her life because they are "low class", is posting constantly about this because it is a shining example of people exercising their freedumb. I had to put her on snooze. I
My dental hygienist is there. She is truly one of the biggest idiots I know so when she told me she was going because "we are not afraid this hoax,", I was not surprised. A whole sea of people like her would be enough to make me run very far.

One year long ago (like 16 years or so) we visited Mount Rushmore and thought we'd catch a quick hotel afterwards. But the hotels for miles around were full. "It's Sturgis" they said. "What is Sturgis?" we ask in all naivety. We met a lot of the bikers in restaurants and they were all so nice and so happy. Anyway, waaaaay out we found a motel and grabbed at it. Like leaky, musty AC, shag carpet, hair in the drain ... and I had some kind of really bad headache, similar to a high altitude headache. But my fam lived through it and we still laugh about our innocence 'til this day. This has absolutely nothing to do with the thread and everything to do with your avatar. Correct me if I am wrong...but is this not a screen shot from Theme Hospital? Or Two Points Hospital? If so...are you my sister from another mister? One of my FAVORITE GAMES!

I just read an article that said some routes go through reservations and they are turning folks away. Supposedly at several checkpoints. I’m sure their ancestors are like atta boy...last time it wiped us out 🤷🏾♀️ Those checkpoints started in mid-March when the schools shut down. It has been a contentious point in the state. It’s their land, granted to them by treaty, giving them sovereignty on those lands, it’s about time ‘we’ ( General USA we ) respect that and abide by their decisions. It’s about time our country abides by its agreements & treaties.

And this doesn't appear to be outside. It's either a building or a tent - ceiling and wall clearly visible.

I was only addressing the fact of the timing of the checkpoints and that the checkpoints were established at the start of Covid and not because of the rally. I added the last sentence to establish that it is a well known fact in the state that it is not about the rally specifically.

IDK, it will be interesting to see what comes out of it. All the protests here in MN, and they had free testing tents, and they said none of them came back positive. The Effie Rodeo here in MN, and only 1 positive came out of it, but now this wk there was a funeral gathering, and a whole bunch are coming back positive. The difference? they wore masks at the funeral, but afterwards they had a lunch, and they were inside, with closed windows, and everyone took off masks to eat. So I'm sort of thinking sturgis might be ok. It's outside, which seems to be the ticket. I don’t think that’s right about no positive tests coming from the protests. One of my staff’s entire family caught COVID after her son and nephew (who lives with her) went to the protests. They’d all been quarantining and working at home prior to that. The son and nephew showed symptoms first and tested positive, then same for the rest of the household 4-5 days later.

The reservations in MN have been in lockdown since March due to COVID also. Like she said, it's not new, and not necessarily because of Sturgis

I had heard there were none at the beginning, but it looks like there some cases, but at least a low % "ABC News: Minnesota Sees No Rise In COVID-19 Cases Tied To Protests: Health Official Infectious disease experts have warned that mass protests over the death of George Floyd could lead to another wave of COVID-19 infections. So far, Minneapolis, where the protest activity originated, has not seen a dramatic uptick in cases related to the demonstrations, the state's Department of Health told ABC News Monday. As of late last week, 4,487 tests conducted across four testing sites specifically for protesters resulted in 62 positive cases of COVID-19, for a positivity rate of 1.4%, the department said. A very good friend's brother (sheriff deputy in Charleston) and his son got COVID from the protests there...as did other members of their police force. Contact tracing determined it was the protests.

My aunt in South Dakota passed away on Friday. To get to her funeral I would have to drive through the motorcycle madness. My cousins just called me today to tell me to not come. It just isn't worth the risk. I am heartbroken to miss it, but a little relieved to not have to put myself in the middle of it.

She said they have a very high risk of infection based on proximity, the open mouth, etc. I can’t believe that this hygienist would take this risk. Will she self-quarantine upon return? I hope no one in your family has an upcoming cleaning appointment.

My son and I played Theme Hospital back in the day. So when Two Point Hospital came out I got it on Steam. It was my cold March shelter in place diversion. I played through all the levels and expansion packs. Since it got warm I haven't played but all I have left is two REMIX levels. I love the silliness but you have to have your strategies to complete a level. Do you have a favorite hospital?

Right. I'm not sure what you think I said, but my point was that something being outside doesn't matter if they aren't going to social distance and wear masks.

And this doesn't appear to be outside. It's either a building or a tent - ceiling and wall clearly visible. I played the video for a few seconds and it appeared that the "walls" were soft walls and they are indeed outside, just with a roof and soft walls. Could be wrong, it's dark and hard to see. Either way, my opinion still stands... they're idiots for no social diatancing and no masks.

When we went into lockdown here, I ended up having to work SO much (I am an English Language coordinator for schools here) making videos for the students that I had to stop playing. I haven't had any time to play just yet because we changed all of our books and I am having to write a completely new curriculum for 1st grade through to 9th grade and I am trying to do it in a way that will allow for an easy transfer to online if necessary. I don't have a favorite hospital but I LOVE the patient that has Freddie Mercury syndrome. Love it! I am hoping to start back up in September. I just loved Theme Hospital. So wacky and silly. You are right though, you have to bring your strategy at the same time. I also bought Project Hospital but I have not even touched it yet. DD and I have been playing Mega Aquarium together. The graphics are really cool.

Even if the town cancelled it and lost all their money, the major places than accommodate people and have all the parties are private vendors on private property with permits through the state. They couldn't shut them down. Sturgis and surrounding areas will be paying for free COVID testing in a couple of weeks for everyone.

Not only did she tell me that gem about Stugis and Covid, she also was way too fast and rough because she was in a hurry to go out with friends. I have a tough mouth and almost no plaque, and she managed to hurt my mouth.

I am in the middle of the craziness here in Rapid City. I am finding it to be a "typical" Rally year. Being the 80th we would have seen close to a million - it is probably more like 250K because of COVID.
There is never any location here or in Sturgis with that many congregating. We have so much room to ride here that you can go hours without seeing other people.
The bars and venues are basically outdoor - no different than any other year.
We survived the July 4th fireworks when everyone said we were going to all catch the virus and burn up in forest fires from the fireworks - so I suspect we will survive this as well.

I had no doubt that the people in the area would survive. The problem is that a portion of those people will carry the virus all over the country afterwards!

I get the big picture - I wear my mask at work, while shopping etc.
We had no reports of increased contact trace from the July 4th ceremony from visiting guests that I am aware of.
Believe me - I hope and pray that everyone leaves here with nothing but memories, souvenirs and probably hang overs. I certainly do not want COVID here or anywhere else.
The Rally is bigger than small town Sturgis could ever hope to control much less cancel. I feel they made the right choice so that they could have at least some semblance of control with town and vendor restrictions. The bikers that have shown up would have been here regardless of the towns decision.
