I guess this will come across harsh but I hope those athletes have a back up plan in place. Considering only 1.6% of NCAA Football players make it into the NFL many should have that backup plan. Even if the athlete makes it to the big show it isn't a guarantee they stay there either. That is why they are called student athletes and not just athletes. Just my thoughts on this. I think most of the players, even at big time programs, know they have very little chance of making it to the pros. Most of the college players truly are playing for the love of the game. And if they are on scholarship that is a huge bonus. It's just very sad that so many college football players are going to end their career without even so much as an acknowledgement on Senior Day. And before anyone says anything, I know that not having a Senior Day is not as sad as losing your life to covid. However, college football is just one more thing that is being taken away from us and it's okay to be sad if you are a big fan. I actually have watched my son swim D1 for the last 4 years and know exactly how it can effect the college athlete. One of my son's teammates did not get to go on to NCAAs for swimming in March this year and it was his senior year. On top of that he has a chance to represent his country for the Olympics. So yes as a fan of a different sport I get what you are saying. My comment though was addressing the athletes who are banking on becoming pros and hopefully having a backup plan.

That's my alma mater's conference! University of Maryland wasn't going to have a good year, so at least I won't be missing a good season. I'm worried about the ACC as my daughter is an athlete (Dance Team) and dances at all sporting events. We are so sad that we won't be able to watch her her senior year.

I’m so sorry. I feel like this year is just a wash - but there will be next year ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I am starting to worry that it's going to be at least another year. I am worried that people think things will magically get better on Jan 1, 2021. Already, I see people who SIP in the spring, figured we'd be back to normal in the summer/fall, and now we aren't. And unfortunately, the US overall is just too damn selfish to do the right thing. We are really at the mercy of a vaccine, which again, I feel is a false safety net. People will take the vaccine and just assume, OK! Let's get back to our lives! ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

Forget the money, forget your disappointment, think about the athletes. No college football is going to have a major impact on the NFL 2021 draft and the future for a lot of these kids. Teams are only going to have sophomore or junior year tape to judge performance. For the poor kid that may have suffered an injury or just had a bad junior year this season could have been his make it or break it shot for getting drafted. Yes - absolutely. The impact on these kids' futures is heartbreaking. I feel so badly for all of the athletes that missed their spring seasons, and now who will miss their fall, who have worked so hard. My daughter is in that situation. Played soccer since she was three and worked really hard to get recruited. High schools around here play soccer in the spring so most of her senior season, senior night celebration, awards banquet, etc. was cancelled. Her college plays in the fall so now it looks like she may not get a freshman season either. Right now the season is "postponed" until spring but even if they are able to compete - it won't be anything like what she had been anticipating. I am so sad for her. On the bright side - she is settling in nicely to college in general and hanging out with her soccer teammates a bunch socially. Going through this together has the potential to make them even stronger as a team and as individuals. Gotta make the best of the cards you are dealt!

I give your daughter and all of the kids in that same situation so much credit. They are handling things so much better than I think I would have in the same situation.

It doesn't surprise me at all.
How in the world would the players not breathe, "spit", etc on each other?
I'm sad....

As a lifelong Husker fan, I am upset, but not surprised. My son is going to start at the University. He moves in Saturday. He made the marching band. I am sad that he will not get to perform this year. Hoping this time next year, we can be somewhat back to normal. Congrats to your son for making the marching band (even if they don't get to march this year ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) ). I was on the flag line '94-'96 and married a guy from the drumline. We loved the experience, especially me since I got to attend the 94 Orange Bowl and 95 Fiesta Bowl! My son plays bass drum!

First my March Madness, now my fall football. Sad day for this fan.
Sending big momma hugs to all the kids who have crushed dreams today.

I saw a commentator on pbs newshour talking about college and how he thinks there needs to be a radical rethink of the whole thing.. like 1/6 of the usual overall income will be gone and things can't stay the same. maybe we should look more to the canadian or british model.. where kids in college don't spend big time on general ed requirements.. and you get through your courses in 2.5-3 yrs. make it year round. cut the sports and foo foo fancy gyms and dorms and such. drastically cut costs.
I don't think college football will be back for 2 yrs.. we have to have a vaccine that is available.. and sports figures are not essential workers.

The Big 12 presidents met last night and although there has not been an official announcement, it is being widely reported that they voted to move forward with football for now, with increased covid testing and cardiac monitoring. It sounds like it will be a day-to-day decision as to whether the season will continue, which I think makes sense. The schedule will be pushed back. I feel certain fans won’t be allowed at the games, but we can watch on television.
It looks like at least for now, the SEC, the ACC (plus Notre Dame) and the Big 12 will be playing.

Columbus is going to implode without the Buckeyes. It is like a religion here. I don't like college ball so it doesn't affect me one way or another but I'm different than 99% of the people who live here.
It is a bummer but not a tragedy. The world can survive a year without football.
