These are all my Halloween brooches, I only count 20, so I guess that means I need 11 more right?! This is my latest acquisition, Wednesday Addams! I got her for my birthday yesterday. She is for all those days you want to poison a bunch of people, but then you remember that is illegal...

Those brooches are amazing! The surprise book subscription I ordered arrived in the post today and the book is Frankissstein by Jeanette Winterson which I'm really excited about. Quite glad that my eldest has karate after school today now because I can sit in the carand start reading. I also finially got a customs note for my Scrapbook.com order! Wayhay! But It's taken so long to reach me that when I went online to pay for it, I was told it was being sent back to the sender! Boooo! So frustrating, but I now at least know where it is and I should get a refund soon (I hope). It has been a perfect autumn day - gorgeous October sun this morning and now it's peeing it down just in time for the school run. Joy!

Normally, SB.com are swift with refunds due to parcels being sent back. I'd definitely reach out to them straight away to let them know. Definitely checking out Frankissstein! I hadn't even heard of this book until you mentioned it.

impearia Those are fabulous. Of course you need 31! I especially love the scary Mickey Mouse brooch. I agree you need 31 impearia and they are AMAZING. I love the Nightmare ones especially much, but the bunny with bat wings is delightful as well! Now I want a water bottle that has a poison label. Scary Mickey Mouse is actually Vampire Teddy from Nightmare Before Christmas.

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend, October lovers! We've been enjoying some really nice weather and hit 25°C/77°F this afternoon so I'm overjoyed. Went to the cemetery to help my mother clean her partner's family tomb today. We wore masks and kept it super safe but it was loads of fun reconnecting with her this week. It was incredibly quiet in the cemetery. We only spotted one other person... All the watering cans at the fountains were available to use, too. Glorious sunshine, the quietness of the departed and so many stories to imagine when you peek at tombs, read names and see all the tchotchkes and flowers people have left for their loved ones. We moved some of the plastic flowers that were replaced to other tombs that have long been neglected. It's our favourite game. Redistribute the goodness, make it look like someone cares. We even took a break and sat on a bench overlooking all the tombstones and family vaults in the distance. And met a cute, overexcited pupper being taken on a walk when we left (he was SO fluffy!). All in all, October 10 was a win. My mother, the meticulous tomb cleaner, in 1:2 format as this will be a full spread in my album:

sleepingbooty it looks like such a nice fall day! I took my son to the one local walking trail in my town only to be met by a pumpkin walk in progress. Zero restrictions. I could have had a face reading for free (whatever that is), but..corona. I thought it was being held at a local farm. It appears there are at least two events like this today. We went to a restaurant drive-thru and got pumpkin empanadas instead.
I was all set to have fun with my outside decorations, but I've decided it's a hard no. Lights will be off on Halloween in our upstairs and we will be hiding in the basement watching scary movies. I'm officially a Halloween grinch. There's an idea for an October Daily page!

We have a Thanksgiving tradition of watching Adams Family Values because of the play scene at summer camp.

The good sip road trip! Kudos on scoring the extra horchata. Your special charms and spells have worked, my dear fellow witch. I will channel my inner Rebecca Nurse.
Wow, that's a lot of flavors! I've had a few, but they're expensive for what they are so I try not to buy them. For free or cheap, I'll try them all! The verdict on the pumpkin spice ones is -eh. There's a burst of spice flavor as you first bite into them, and then they're pretty normal. Not great, not bad. I almost got the soft baked pumpkin cheesecake ones (like chocolate chip cookies but pumpkin-ish cookies with cheesecake-ish white chocolate chips?) but the packaging was less appealing. They were for 3 for $5.00. A giant bag of messed up Milanos were $8.00. I am cheap as well. I really like their peppermint flavor that's seasonal too.

What were they thinking? I know Halloween is the month of all things scary and dead but come on... (I just know that they will be putting out tacky coronavirus costumes next year.) The pumpkin empanadas sound like a far better and safer idea. Did your kiddo still have a good time? I'm officially a Halloween grinch. There's an idea for an October Daily page! Time to get serious with the "Keep out" signs and stickers! Love your Halloween grinch page idea, by the way. You'll have to share the final result with us. Keep all the full-size candy bars to yourself this year...

Time to get serious with the "Keep out" signs and stickers! Love your Halloween grinch page idea, by the way. You'll have to share the final result with us. Keep all the full-size candy bars to yourself this year... We found a place that has Biden Harris posters. My daughter is going to put it in her bedroom window that faces the street and is across from a town park. We'll have that going for us. We are deep in Trump country. My son could not care less about going places, but I fear when things are somewhat normal it will be hard to get him to behave in public. Either having huge anxiety or wanting to run wild.
ETA: Last year we went through at least seven bags of mini candy bars. I'm too cheap to give out full sized.

Sweet Autumn which features two very solid Hallmark movie stars, Nikki DeLoach and Andrew Walker, now has a preview + "On location" up: This is the Hallmark Fall Harvest 2020 movie I'm looking forward to. Storyline isn't very original but those two actors really tend to get decent scripts and find a way to get that romance chemistry going.

My son could not care less about going places, but I fear when things are somewhat normal it will be hard to get him to behave in public. Either having huge anxiety or wanting to run wild. It's got to be hard to try and find that precarious balance in normal times so I commend you for getting through the pandemic because it must be scary to imagine how things will be when this all ends and he can return to his regular schedule. You'll cross that bridge when you get there. Until then, you're doing good, mama!

October 11. We're past the 1/3rd mark, ladies! How is this spooky month treating you? Over here, it's been sunshine and seaside time. Glorious days that feel more like the end of summer than autumn... We just finished watching The Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time this Halloween season. It'll get played on November 1st again as is our annual tradition. We've got another Burton lined up for tomorrow night with Corpse Bride. My heart is content... Here's the photo going into my mini album: Musical sequence of the day (in one of my favourite classical arrangements, long live public radio! - tagging Skellinton, our connoisseur):

Danny Elfman is just a freaking genius. My husband and I got to see Nightmare with a live orchestra accompaniment last year, it was amazing! I love the Corpse Bride as well. It is no Nightmare, but it is pretty great. Have you seen Frankenweenie or Vincent? Might be a nice way to cap off some Burton viewing. Man, when he is good, he is so GOOD, but when he is bad, yikes. I’m looking at you Batman movies.

I’m looking at you Batman movies. Oh, don't speak of live music right now. I miss going to the opera and live concertos so much. This is usually the time of the year when I'd go to the first opera of the new season but eh, not risking it this year although they are playing at reduced capacity. I bet it was the most magical Nightmare Before Christmas version ever! I think I've seen most of Burton's movies. I've missed a few of the more obscure ones but I saw Frankenweenie in the cinema. I believe it came out on October 31st in France that year. Pretty sure I went to the cinema on Halloween to see it... Just had to have the large screen B&W experience! I feel a bit sorry for Halloween lovers who don't like Burton because his filmography is just a wonderful companion for the entire month. Between the seasonal vibes and the US elections, we're also planning to watch Mars Attacks! this month. "Are you interested in the White House?"

sleepingbooty loved the Nightmare Before Christmas music, thank you. and the photo of your mother's thorough tomb cleaning. It makes me sad that many cemeteries here are set up primarily to be easy to mow with flat indented stones in lawns that the mower can drive straight over. Ugh! A lot of places don't like people leaving anything on the graves either. It makes me feel like they're missing the point of the cemetery. Then again, I've never gone to visit a family grave except very old ones for family history, and would prefer to nourish a tree myself. I got started on my album this weekend. I didn't make much progress but starting is a challenge for me lately. Here are the first 3 pages, as much as I've done. There may be more added. Cover with a joking self portrait: Oct share by jo.blackford, on Flickr My intro card reflected my dark mood. I might add some more to the left side. Oct share by jo.blackford, on Flickr Black light picture suited the crazy holographic page: Oct share by jo.blackford, on Flickr It's a start. And I have now watched Beetlejuice all the way through... a little belatedly! I don't know why I didn't see it in 1988.

I finally found out that those very pretty white pumpkins are called Casper pumpkins sleepingbooty How very appropriate! 😁 I finally had a Saturday off and only got a plan for a cover page started as the kids intervened with plans of their own. But I did sneak in watching the Nightmare before Christmas with DH who has never seen it before! On Sunday I was excited cause my DD told me she would like to watch the Halloween trilogy with me at some point in the day. No one shares my love of scary movies so I was thrilled of this new development! So, I found it, and sent a snapchat of the iconic intro music and the pumpkin from the intro. I kept waiting for her to come to the living room and nothing. Finally about 10 minutes later she comes out and starts sweeping the kitchen. I'm like hey, I'm waiting to watch the movie with you!! She comes and sits next to me, I press play, and she immediately says in a horrified voice, I don't wanna see that movie!!!! I'm like what, this is the movie you said?!! She's like no, I said Halloween Town!!! I start laughing and say, no you said the Halloween trilogy!! She's like well I meant the Halloween Town trilogy!!! I hate scary movies!! 😳😂 Needles to say, I tried to hold her hostage to watch it with me even if it does have some nudity, but she wasn't having it!!! Man, what a total misunderstanding!! Couldn't find 2 more completely different movies if you tried!!😂😂 So that will be my pics for the day. But the good news is I did get my title page and intro page completed....

joblackford , your album is looking great! That ghost paper is cool! lostwithout2peas where did you get that Percival's potions and botanicals paper? I love the tags and all the journaling. Does anyone like B Horror movies? I haven't seen many, but every year I must watch Carnival of Souls (1962). It's streaming on Amazon Prime.

Are you wearing a different one each day through the month? Sorry it took me so long to answer you guys about my brooches. Thanks for all the kind comments.
I am in lockdown here in Melbourne, so not going out much, but I do try and wear different ones around the house, haha. impearia wow, awesome collection! Where do you acquire from? Some seem very unique. I have a brooch collection, and maybe only 3-4 Halloween related ones. Wednesday Addams is my spirit animal. They are from many different makers I believe they are all Australian... Nightmare before Christmas ones are all Kaiju Candy, as is the moon, and the Clockwork Orange chicken. The dangly bunnies and kitties in costumes are The Storybook Rabbit. The little ghost girl is actually a french maker Laliblue. The magic bunny in the top hat is Erstwilder. The ventriloquist dummy (one of my favourite of all my brooches) and the scenic globe scene are Deer Arrow. Wednesday is The Makings of Miss Jones. The bat in the teacup is Peppy Chapette. And all the rest: Batbunny (love this one!), batlady, funeral urn, tarot cards, 3 of swords heart, and spider lady are all Kirbee Lawler one of my favourite of all brooch designers. Her stuff is amazing. She is also a fabulous artist and illustrator.

It is cute and Debbie Reynolds is in it. It has kind a big fan base, it was filmed near here in the city of St. Helens and they have hoopla every October to celebrate. I love that the miscommunication happened, what a great story! I love the ghosty pumpkins, that is what I get to carve every year. They are just so pretty!

impearia Very cool! Sorry to hear about lockdown... joblackford Love the pages, fun! And great photos. lostwithout2peas funny story! I actually watched the original Halloween a week ago...we wanted to see if it was still scary. Not the same as it was when I was younger, but sometimes that very bland, dry backdrop is just as scary! I participated in Victoria Marie's virtual crop over weekend and got a few Halloween layouts done. I will have to refresh on how to get them posted over here.... It was fun just to have other people crafting in the background of zoom sessions, I don't participate much, but I like to listen. And we had a mini costume party, so I dressed as Wednesday Addams, which is a fairly quick, easy costume to do. We have been working from home since March and no end in sight...I have decided that I am going to dress up a couple days and get into character to entertain my partners and myself. Nothing crazy, just basic costumes I can throw together..prob some Harry Potter peeps and Addams family.... I will be sure to take pics and document! Also planning out a strategy for socially distanced, safe trick-or-treating - we will be handing out candy.... Curious if anyone is doing an October album that isn't so Halloween-centric? The one I did before was more just fall themed and daily stories.
