Smart tv , iPad, or laptops, depending on location. We have a couple of older roku boxes, but they don't work very well.

We have two rokus and love them. I did pre-order the Amazon fire sritck when they were on special for prime members last week. It doesn't ship till December so we will see how we like that. How much were they on special? I just looked them up and they are $39 and scheduled to ship in mid-January. They were around $20.

Chromecast. I like it and the price was right but we do get frustrated with it sometimes. About once a week or so it freezes up and we have to take it out of the port and unplug it/re plug it to get it to work.

Roku and Wii, although my kids mostly view it on Wii. I like the Roku a lot, and we are probably going to get one for our TV in our bedroom. We do have a Blu-Ray, but it seems cumbersome to use, maybe because it is older and isn't as user friendly as a newer one would be.

We had been using a Wii. Now we are using Apple TV....I love it! There are so many options of things to watch. We are going to get another unit for our basement tv. We had been moving the unit from tv to tv and decided that we are using it so much that it would be better to just get another unit.

We use different devices. My ds uses a Roku 3. I think it was $90. I just bought dh a Roku stick for $39. He currently uses our blu ray player, but you can't watch HBO go on that. In the basement, we use the Wii. The Roku is probably my favorite device, since you can get quite a bit of channels to stream.

My brothers swear by their Apple TV but I'm wondering what the difference is between it and the other less expensive devices?

We have a blu ray player but it is a piece of crap, so usually I use my laptop or ipad.
Can someone explain what Apple TV is and what it offers and does. I have seen it at Costco but didn't have time to investigate it further.

One tv has wireless so the kids watch through that, their ipads or their computers. In the family room we watch through Roku. I don't watch Netflix in my bedroom.

We have Apole Tv downstairs and Roku upstairs.
While the Roku is good because it isn't a box, it just plugs in to the side of our Tv, it is so not user friendly. I hate it and we hardly use it. The menu, etc on the Apple TV far superior so we are planning on changing out the upstairs roku for it.

Chromecast. I like it and the price was right but we do get frustrated with it sometimes. About once a week or so it freezes up and we have to take it out of the port and unplug it/re plug it to get it to work. I have this problem with my modem. Only I lose internet a couple times a day instead of once a week. To mitigate it, I ended up purchasing a set of remote control plugs from Amazon. It came with 5 plugs and two remote controls. I used one plug with the modem and the rest on various items throughout the house that I thought would be nice to be able to control remotely. I keep one control upstairs and one down. Now when the net goes out, instead of having to walk upstairs to the system and unplug, wait about 60 seconds and plug it back in again, I just hit the remote buttons to handle it. It eliminates a lot of my frustration. Plus now I can turn the light on my nightstand on before heading upstairs, control my big fan from my bed, and a few other things in the house that are helpful to turn on remotely. You might want to consider getting one of these units for your system. To answer the OPs question, I use a Roku for the big TV in the family room and an ipad in my room. I accidentally broke my bedroom TV and decided not to replace it. I just prop my ipad on this little portable lap desk thing to watch movies before going to sleep at night.
