Hi sketchy people! My first sketch for the month is probably the most "challenging" because it features 4 smaller photos. As a person who likes larger photos, this was hard. I initially imagined using 1 4x6 and a couple of supporting photos. Or 1 4x6, and replacing the other photos with embellishment rectangles. But I ended up staying truer to the sketch because I found some sub-par photos of a moment I wanted to scrap, so I didn't care that the photos were smaller than my norm. Here is the sketch: 10 October 15 2016 - Stuck Sketches (600x600) by kirstendrew, on Flickr My interpretation: sketchtember layout #1 funnel cake by kirstendrew, on Flickr All my twists for this month will feature CLUSTERS. This week, we're going to talk about anchoring your clusters on a larger background elements. Here, I've anchored my clusters to both the photos and the doilies in the background. This way, your clusters have a less random appearance, and feel connected to your page. For the twist bonus this week, your page must include 1 cluster of 5 items, but that number can include the anchoring element (the circles in the sketch). For 5 twist points, make 3 clusters of 5 items.

Here is my take on the challenge. I liked the smaller pic's b/c they let me trim off some of the clutter from our kitchen table! I used diecut gears instead of doilies. And used a printed phrase on a diecut to be my title. Thanks, kitbop for your continued help with my struggle to CLUSTER!

that looks great grammadee - I love the neutral colours - makes the bright blue and orange in the pictures standout - I'm still churning this one around in my brain trying to figure out a plan

I adapted this sketch for a 2-page layout and used it for page 2 - it was definitely out of my comfort zone with the circles and clusters

Look at YOU go, Linda, with the circles and overlapping photos! Love the facing page: perfect conterbalance! And the back to school photo is really cool!

I love the way you did that Linda! I struggle with clusters so much because it always feels so messy to me. Other people do it well but I feel like a total sticker sneeze. You pulled that off in such a streamlined way! Well done! Here's mine.

This was a great sketch to use some photos that aren't the best quality. I used glassine bags with tags to anchor my clusters. I still need to add my journaling on the tags, but I'm not in the mood for that today.

Ryann - that's lovely - the tags are a great layering element

Love the bags as tag envelopes for your journaling, Ryann. Such pretty colours on your page, and I love the texture/depth of that cluster with the heart & thd flowers!

I had my comments to everyone who has posted projects thus far typed out, but the browser ate it! So let me try this again. kitbop This was a really fun sketch. I thought it was a good one to pair with lesser quality photos (don't look to close!), lol. I really enjoyed your layout with all the bits & bobs tucked about. I feel you could look at your layout 10 times and find something new each time! grammadee I really enjoyed the story of your layout and the texture of the different styles of gears. Really cute! Linda Love the neutral color palette! It really makes your colorful embellishments stand out for attention. I must admit your daughter's non-smile made me smile. I imagine it's difficult starting the school year (especially if typically away for school) doing remote learning when it's not of your choosing. I love that you continue your first day of school traditions, even during this untraditional point in time. jeremysgirl I love me a sticker sneeze! I love the bright, happy florals that take your eyes right down the diagonal of the page. Super cute!

Oh my *gosh* I love the takes on this so far! grammadee - I LOVE the clusters. The swooshes are awesome details. And I love how you stretched the photos top to bottom. Linda - that. is. amazing. I LOVE it. Your organized layout, symmetry, and careful clusters that are so easy to look at and see the details. It is fabulous! jeremysgirl - yours is what I imagined doing myself when I saw this sketch! Then I found the smaller photos so I was more true to the layout, but you did my vision! Looks great too, I love the textures of felt and flower. Ryann - that is a darling layout! The colours and elements suit the "dare to dream" title perfectly. I love how you used the tags and twine in the corners to contain the layout.

Thanks for the sketch, and the idea to use smaller photos that aren't that great. I might not have scrapped these otherwise.

My take on this sketch didn't go well. By the time I finished it didn't look like the sketch and just looks like "too much stuff". But is it done. I don't think sketches are my bag. Let's Start Linda- you really knocked this one out of the park. Both pages are such a great representation of the sketch. I love the photos and the computer. Great double pager. The “house” background fits your theme perfectly. jeremysgirl, I love what you did with the sketch. I love how the design goes from corner to corner and is very compact and artsy. It is such a happy and upbeat page. Beautifully scrapped. Ryann, I love that you used tags in place of circles. They look so nice intermingled with your photos and banners. I love your spatters. I wish I had your expertise. Beautiful page. AussieMeg, kitbop and grammadee, you have love left in the gallery.

nylene I think it looks great! I can identify it as "yours" because of the wonderful die cut work (ah-may-zing!), and the 8.5x11 size. But I think you broke one of your "signature rules"...overlapping photos! I can't remember ever seeing you overlap like this before and it's probably what's bugging you! AussieMeg - oh dear me, that is heavenly. Absolutely every piece. Candy!

kitbop great sketch and very fun page grammadee - love the gears and pictures jeremysgirl I love your page. I feel the same way you do about clusters. AussieMeg I really like your page and love your pictures My take on the sketch. I didn't really use clusters but the main idea is here. Dh and I have had a plan to visit a bunch of MLB parks. Last summer while attending a tournament with ds we got the chance to go to Comerica Park in Detroit which is number 2 on our list. We had plans for 5 more this summer but that will have to wait now

psiluvu - that looks great! I love the strips of baseballs, and your choice of smaller circular elements - you've got more space for the pictures without it feeling cluttered.

Here’s my TN kit take. Once I got clustering, I could hardly stop! (ETA: Unfortunately, you can see the ink from the next page that leaked through a bit on the bottom right corner. I may try to cover it with white paint or something. Or I may not worry about it. Hard to say.) 2020 Sketchtember #2

I am enjoying alllll the pretty layouts !!!! It's fun to see the different interpretations of the sketches--y'all are so creative! wendy crowe....I reallyyyyy like the way you used so many fun elements without it looking cluttered or uneven. I have tried (and tried!!!) to do that over the years, and it just is NOT a talent of mine, so I use minimal "stuff". It's a bummer, since I have sooo many fun embellishments waiting to be used. Oh, and that BIRD....that cute wittle birdy.... AussieMeg !!!

Sketchtember # 2...thank you for the challenge. It was sooooo fun to finally use these gorgeous papers, and I liked your idea of using circles--which are new for me. (*sidebar---ugh, the rub-on letters spelling "sophie" are very old, and I guess they're dried out a bit. Oh well, it gives her name a weathered look which kinda goes with the roughness of the torn paper). ....I'm tryna be "glass half full" instead of being annoyed that probably ALL my old rub-on letters are dried out!

wendy crowe and psiluvu I love the baseball layouts! Truly you guys did an excellent job with the circle themes on these layouts. The balls are just a natural use of a circle theme. Great job, both of you! scrappintoee I love your memorial page to sweet Sophie! I love the Until We Meet Again. Breaks my heart. Everyone else, I'll catch you in the gallery.

@scrapintoe, your memorial page is beautiful. Love all the loving photos of life with Sophie. And you are right. The weathered look of her name fits the theme.
