Also, unless we lived on daylight savings time year-round, wouldn't be getting that dark that early on standard time anyway? Kids here play under the lights as well. Last week we had light for all of practice. This week it was dark for all of practice bc of the time change. I understand that, but my point is that unless we stayed on Daylight Savings Time all year, it would have been getting dark earlier much sooner--just not as suddenly.

That's just odd. I've never once heard of canceling soccer practice because of a time change. You either have it under the lights or you go inside if it's really cold or dark. My neighbor's kids play soccer year round. They don't change the time of practice either, except during the holidays. You're right, it's so odd that our soccer league doesn't function exactly the same as your neighbor's soccer league. That's just crazy <eyeroll>. Our league does not have any soccer fields with lights nor does our league have any indoor fields. We can't just go practice on fields that don't belong to us. No, more like any other league in the country. <insert my own eye roll> I have never, ever, ever heard of a league simply canceling practice because the time changed. Which it does. Every. single. year. A little planning goes a long way sometimes. You know. For an event that happens every. single. year. But then again, coming from you, I'm not at all surprised.

It doesn't matter to me if we are on Daylight Saving Time or not, I just hate the fact that we have to change the clocks at all. Just pick one and leave it there!

As if you could know what every other league in the country does. What an idiotic statement. You don't even have kids; you're basing your opinions off someone else's kids. Our league is supposed to be done by now. We are late finishing due to rainouts earlier in the season. We plan to finish the week before the time change and only go past he time change if we have to for makeup games. We are supposed to end the week before the time change and then we are off until the week time changes back. Then we'll have light to practice. Otherwise we simply don't. This isn't some random league; it's a big suburb. And as far as I know all of the suburbs around us are the same. There are indoor leagues you can play in over the winter, but they are completely separate small leagues run by the people who own the indoor fields.

We have DLS in most of Australia. A few states do not.
I love it, we have about 6 months if it and I love being able to go walking after work or sitting outside having dinner. Everyone is more social and happy.
The changeover is a bit of an adjustment but that quickly passes. I hate winter with a passion (and our is nothing like some of you experience) and when DLS starts I can feel my whole mood changing.

I don't need to have kids when I drive by three soccer fields on my way home and the kids are still kicking away. Darkness and all. Keep trying though.

Hawaii doesn't participate which is one of the very few things I like about living here. Only 6 more months!

I hate it. By the time I get out of work it is dusk. I teach in a room without any windows and other than 2o minute drive to work, I don't see daylight. I want DST to be all year.
I live in the foothills of a large mountain, so when the sun passes over it is dark faster than other places on the other side of the mountain.

I love daylight savings. LOVE it! It means that summer is nearly here. When we go back to standard time in autumn, it puts me in a real funk. There are 2 states here that don't do daylight savings. I'm glad the state I live in does.
ETA: I just read your post AllieC, and I agree totally. We are kindred spirits!

I hate the time change. My body takes weeks to finally sleep like it is supposed to. I keep waking up at 4 a.m. (I normally get up at 5 a.m. every day) because my internal alarm clock goes off. It doesn't change with DLS. I'm exhausted for weeks because I just can't seem to get enough sleep until finally it adjusts. I have sleep issues.

I prefer my daylight at the end of the day, rather go to work in the dark than come home in the dark. And like the long summer evenings.

I had that the date of when the clocks in the spring have been pushed back further for us in the USA and Canada. Why? Because we start getting the light earlier in the morning and then BAM, back to darkness. It sucks living more up North sometimes! We can get crazy long winters sometimes so that light is such a tease.

I like the sun in the morning aspect but I HATE that it is completely dark at 6:00.
