Thanks for this! I’ll miss Sandy—she was a nice combo of witty, encouraging, and kind. I’ll set the DVR. I don’t watch Belgian tv much (I mostly stream shows), so I don’t know that I would have seen that it was starting.

I'm not sure about Matt...willing to give him chance though It's nice to have something like this to look forward to isn't it!

He’s probably best known for Little Britain but he’s also done Shooting Stars, Come Fly with Me and recently a spoof of Boris Johnson but also did a spell on stage in Les Mis as Thenardier

Looking forward to it!
It will be interesting if not going home changes anything. Much easier to stay positive and happy when you get to go back home to your friends & family after the weekend...living together for 6 weeks away from everyone is quite a different experience

Could someone please give me a short description. 12 amateur bakers complete 3 baking challenges each week and are eliminated one per week. The challenges are usually a classic, a 'showstopper' and then one set by one of the 2 expert judges. It's quite lighthearted but as you get to know the contestants over the weeks it's hard not to get involved

I’ve never watched any cooking shows. Is this a contest ? Exciting ? Could someone please give me a short description. It's a baking competition from the UK. Three tasks every episode around a theme ie biscuits, bread etc. A signature bake, a technical challenge, and a showstopper. All the bakers are amateurs. At the end of each episode, someone earns star baker and the worst baker leaves. It's a gentle watch, the winner wins a glass cake stand. No money prize.

Thank you for relying. You’re right, you do get involved with the people on these reality shows. This one seems quite popular. I will set it to record. Thanks again so much. 😊

Thanks again so much. 😊 The main thing about this show is that everyone is nice and supportive of each other, they don't stir up any drama between contestants and there's no bitching or carrying on...because of that I think it's easier to get involved with the contestants as you see them at their best instead of at their worst like much of reality TV. This year is different due to covid, but normally the contestants travel to the location and film the show over the weekend and then go home again. I think that aspect also keeps the show drama free as they all get to see their friends and family in between each episode. It will be interesting to see if that changes now they are filming in lockdown for 6 weeks. For two of their bakes each week they do know in advance what they are baking and they get to practice at home. For the 'technical challenge' they do not know what they are going to be making and it's a surprise on the day, but they are given a basic recipe/running sheet to work from.

For the 'technical challenge' they do not know what they are going to be making and it's a surprise on the day, but they are given a basic recipe/running sheet to work from. I agree that the lack of drama is the draw. It’s just amateur bakers trying to really do their best. The biggest hurdle is themselves—they have little time to complete the tasks and they often are rushed, so forget the eggs or the sugar, or get bogged down with details and run out of time. For the Technical Challenge, they often make things that are commercially made, old recipes that no one makes anymore, regional breads or pastries that are unique to the area, or grand pastries that you would only buy in a shop. And they are given very few instructions—no times or oven temperatures—the bakers have to rely on past experience. If a contestant is running out of time, others may help them finish or give advice. If someone does poorly, they all rally around to comfort the person. It sounds dull, but if you like baking you learn a lot. Wellway described it as a gentle watch and that’s a perfect description.

I’ve been a devoted watcher since season 3. I used to watch it via YouTube before it hit Netflix. Sadly, the last season jumped the shark in my opinion. Too many young people (older bakers have so much knowledge but they aren’t the market demo for the show) and it seems the show has shifted from amateur home baker to what would look best in a patisserie window. I may not watch. I still watch older seasons. It’s my comfort tv.

It is pretty much the antithesis of a US reality competiton show. Everyone is so gracious when they are asked to leave, and humble when they are interviewed...
