I think it could go either way. Some Republican Senators are in danger of losing their seats, so maybe they will punt this forward. Then again, McConnell wants judges, so he could try to push a nomination through. If he does that, and if we win the WH and Senate, we should add 2 more Justices. I've said that before because the number of justices can be changed by Congress (in fact, they've done so a few times before). I know it's not a popular idea but I'm not looking for a majority; just to equalize the SC. I think that it might become a popular idea if McConnell manages to confirm a new Justice.

It’s not fair that so much was riding on that woman’s shoulders. Her death would be sad enough - she was such a remarkable woman - but to have her death be so tied to politics we’re not going to be able to mourn her like we should. And the fact that that disgusting POS is probably doing a jig right now makes me sick. This. That’s all I could think of when she got her first got her diagnosis. May she RIP. 😔 She was a wonderful public servant and served honorably.

It's been "reported" Romney has said he is committed to not confirming a justice until January. I hope it’s true. Sounds like him. I really do respect this man.

Vote! For anyone who thinks they can't support Biden, pick an issue, any issue and decide how you want the Supreme Court to rule. I don't think anyone expected to go another 4 years without a vacancy of a liberal justice but this election is now more crucial than ever.

Without that, nothing changes. I agree that if he does this, he will drive up the Democratic vote. We have a good shot at flipping the Senate now; this will just enrage Dems and turn them out.

There are quite a few “number” games to play. Did you know this?
There are quite a few senators who have tough re-election races
I turned on Fox News and the person speaking said McConnell better count his votes.

Such a loss to our country. I'm heartbroken and feel sick. Seriously, how much more can 2020 suck. Better not to know or ask how much worse this year could get. I literally started crying when I read the news. I am so sad for her and her family because she fought so hard. I am so sad for our country because she was a shining example of all that is good and right and just. This is just too much. Goddamnit all to hell.

one of my first thoughts was 2020 can just go to hell. Then I realized it probably is that very thing.
RIP RBG.

And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to not run again. Having anything resembling a moral center has made a lot of UT republicans very angry. He just needs to do what is right and, as the Ut Mormons are so fond of saying, let the consequences follow.

McConnell has issued a statement that the dt nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the Senate. Yup. He has a special place in hell. He better be scared because I will be in hell waiting for him

Isn't the whole idea of the Supreme Court to provide a balance of opinions, which decisions based upon the majority? Isn't that the purpose of always having dissenting opinions? Laws evolve, and cannot if you stack the deck with one sided opinions. Otherwise, it's just a rubber stamp for one opinion.
A balanced Court is to everyone's advantage. Without it, you have, dare I say, a dictatorship.

McConnell has issued a statement that the dt nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the Senate. DH and I were talking about this and why? Why do it tonight? Why not wait until tomorrow or Monday. It costs him nothing to wait, and for what gain? By doing it an hour after the announcement reeks of rubbing people's faces in their "victory." It mostly serves to piss people off. Hopefully, those people potentially pissed off include Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Gorsuch who may actually be grieving the loss of a respected colleague and don't want to see their institution or a death of a friend politicized in this way.

Because he’s man with as little of a moral compass as Trump. It’s all about power to him. Retaining and consolidating it. By any means necessary.

Question, if Trump nominates a sitting senator to the supreme court, does the person being voted on also get to vote?

One of my fears is that the integrity of the SC will be compromised with a Trump appointment like Kavanaugh. If election results end up in the front of the SC, this country is f*****.

This is just devastating. She was such an extraordinary woman. I think that it should be required that all young girls and women watch the RGB documentary. Many women today do not realize how far we have come in such little time. And how quickly our rights can be taken away. Also, I really hope that mnmloveli liking the OP's post isn't a true reflection of her feelings. Kind of in bad taste, imo.

I just cannot wrap my head around how in the world McConnell can be okay with Trump appointing a SC judge less than two months before the election when Obama was not allowed to 10 months before the 2016 election. What the hell am I missing here? Because I know I must be missing something.
