The stripes in the foyer were a but much, but I love everything else about this house. What a beautiful place to live!

I see no insane decorating, are you sure you linked to the correct listing? The horizontal stripes were not my taste but perhaps in person they feel different.

The decorating (other than the striped foyer and stairwell) is beautiful and very period. Color (riotous color at that) existed in the past. Empire style was prevalent from 1800-1870 and trended toward bright and gaudy. I'm speaking to that gorgeous pink wallpaper.

Okay I do LOVE it.. I love the outdoors. BUT this is what I see... the owners could not decide to decorate in modern style, 1800's style or just plain. The wallpaper in the dining room and kitchen OMG.. gross. And the staircase?? What the heck? But that could be changed easily enough. That barn is awesome and the bridge over the stream.. LOVE LOVE LOVE...
Edited to add.. one room you have pictures of people back in the 1800's and then you go in the kitchen and you have a picture of "@". Just doesn't flow.

I would agree, the switch in time between the rooms just jars the visitor. That pink striped stairway and foyer....no, just no.
Love the rest of the home, property and the setting.

Not a fan of the stripes, but I could deal with the rest, except for the insane winter and mud spring in Vermont.

I've been to Chelsea many times. The decor of the house is not very New Englandy.

The wallpaper is terrible, but other than that it's a beautiful house.

I love some of the rugs and light fixtures. However, there is too much pattern on pattern in that house for me. Overall, it's a lot.

About the only thing I would change is the animal print carpet on the stairs. I don’t think the stripes in the hall suit the rest of the house, but they’re not ugly per se. The pink wallpaper works in the dining room because it’s such a large room. And I love the embroidered couches in the living room - they are fabulous.

I love some of the rugs and light fixtures. However, there is too much pattern on pattern in that house for me. Overall, it's a lot. Multiple pattern disorder. Some rooms are totally fine and create a harmonious ensemble and then *wham* out of nowhere, it's a wallpaper that doesn't match the vibe at all and doesn't know what it's doing there.

The modern decor clashes with the house. They needed to tone it down a bit. The wallpaper in the kitchen - WTF? Thankfully, there's nothing that would require major construction to change - just paint or new wallpaper.

I like it - definitely looks like something you’d see in a magazine. Though if I were going to live in it I’d tone it down a bit but overall seems like a super neat house.
The listing says this: “... internationally renowned celebrity designer, Steven Favreau. This house, lovingly referred to as 'Hubble Shire Farm', is featured in numerous publications and is a work of absolute sophistication. ”

I hate all of the wallpaper especially in the dining room and kitchen. The stripes in the foyer have got to go!

I'll be the lone dissenter. It is way too eclectic for my taste and just looks like a lot of work to fix. It doesn't look like any of the New England houses I have been to and I grew up less than an hour from there. I have painted over red paint before and I think those stripes would take 2 coates of primer and 2 coats of paint to cover.

What a cool house! Some of the wallpaper like the stripes in the entry or whatever was in the kitchen wasn't what I would have picked but most of that place is gorgeous! Apparently, you can get a lot for your money in Chelsea, VT.

There was a lot I liked in there and I love horizontal striped although perhaps not those colours The chandelier wallpaper reminds me of a local restaurant that has paper of that ilk in teal with orange lobsters on it

I see no insane decorating, are you sure you linked to the correct listing? The horizontal stripes were not my taste but perhaps in person they feel different. oh my, the pink chandelier wallpaper?! my first thought was that the pink wallpaper was a historically-accurate silkscreened wallpaper... but then I got to the horizontal stripes in the staircase and the leopard stair treads. so now I'm not sure about the wallpaper. I also think the log (?) wallpaper in the kitchen is way over the top. Other than those few touches, though, the house is gorgeous! Edited to add.. one room you have pictures of people back in the 1800's and then you go in the kitchen and you have a picture of "@". Just doesn't flow. yes! or, NO!, I should say... lol!

I kind of love it. Not the choices I would personally make, but I think putting your personality into your home design choices is totally fine. It’s just wallpaper/paint and nothing permanent that can’t be changed.

I would want a bowl of neapolitan ice cream every time I walked down those stairs. With the view out the master bedroom windows, the wallpaper in master bath was overkill as was most of the wall paper. Not sure I would want a glass top bar in my kitchen. That thing would look bad every.single.day. The area is beautiful and I love those sofas in the front room.

I'd put up with the hassle of repainting the foyer in exchange for 23 acres, that huge barn/garage, mountain views, and my very own bridge!!!
