Just curious how hot or cold people let their homes get.
For us, the A/C is set at 77 from 7AM-5PM. At 5PM, it is set for 86. That is to it turn off in the evening.
The heater is set at 68-70 from 7AM-8PM. At 8PM, it is bumped all the way down to 60. I don't like to sleep with the heater on. The heater actually goes on before 7 because the way ours works it that it makes it 68 by 7AM.

My house is 68 degrees all year round. Except when the temperature is mild and we have the windows open.

Most of the time it isn’t even turned on, only when there is extreme heat or those few weeks it gets cold. I prefer to have the windows open for fresh air.

I’m in a mild climate so most houses don’t have AC.
In the winter we turn the heater on maybe a dozen times - if I wake up and house is below 55 I’ll turn it on to get the house above 60. Heater is never on at night - we all like to sleep in a cold room, ideally with windows open for fresh air.

Right now the a/c is set at 70. That is because I am old and get hot flashes. At night it goes down to 60 because I sleep better when it’s cool.
I’m in Florida so cool is better these days. lol

Between 68 and 70. It’s an old house so it doesn’t maintain temperature very well.

70 when we are home. Can go down to 67 (ac) or up to 75 (heater) depending on the weather
When we arent home heater drops to 65idh and ac goes up to 74
86 would be freaking miserable to me

Also, when it is cool enough we open the windows at night to get fresh air during the summer.
Unfortunately the smoke this year had barely allowed that

Heat- 68 degrees during the day, 58 at night so that it doesn't turn on (I live in the south).
A/C- 73-74 degrees during the day. 71 at night for sleeping.

I have my off and then turn it on if I want heat. We don’t have AC so that isn’t a factor. I always turn it off at night unless it will be extremely cold (unusual for Seattle area). In the winter during the day it may be anywhere from 64-69 depending on what we are doing and who is home.

I have it on today and it is set at 77. It will likely be on tomorrow too. I turn it off in before I go to bed because I prefer to have the windows open and it cools down at night.
I have had it on more days this year than the past two. And that includes the two months I wasn't even in my apartment. I usually only need it about 5 days a year but I think today marks the 10th time I have had it on. It's been an ugly, brutal summer.

I prefer to be comfortable, which means I'd rather be on the cold side than the warm side. The last 3 mornings I've turned the heat on enough to take the morning chill of the house. Then it goes off. When is warm enough for AC it usually just stays on all the time.

From about June through mid October the AC is set at 75°.
Then when needed I turn on the heater at 70°.

When the a/c needs to be on it’s always 22°C/71.6°F, day and night. In winter when the heat is on it’s set for 19°C/66.2°F during the day and 18°C/64.4°F at night. Everyone else in the house is cold and wears multiple layers, but I hate being hot and think that artificial heat is too drying and unhealthy (we use gas). I can’t remember the last time anyone of us had a cold. It’s been years.

A/C is set at 75° during the day and 73° at night, unless we have company staying with us, then it's set a bit lower because most of them don't like it that warm.
Heater? We have never used it.

70. DH turned it up to 72 and that explained my restless night being warm. UGH. I'm always cold in the evenings and remind him I really wish I had a hot tub.
73 in our house makes me lethargic and sick to my stomach.

Heat kicks in at 65. i would roast and freeze I wonder if it is different areas of the country that do Temps differently or if it comes down to personal preference It’s a pretty mild climate here. I’ve lived in the western northwest my whole life and even though AC is becoming more common, it’s not heavily used here like in a lot of other parts of the country. I freeze when I go to parts of the country where they set the AC super cold. I think it’s so unpleasant. It is trending warmer here but it still doesn’t get really hot here that often. Most days in the summer the AC never even turns on. We open the windows at night and the house gets nice and cool. DH and I both prefer to put on another layer than keeping the thermostat higher in the cooler months. Again, it’s pretty mild here (we don’t even get snow many winters), so it works out.

I'm in the central CA foothills- so no humidity usually. We do NOT cool down at night in the summer. On days when it's over 100, we might cool down to 85. This house gets SO HOT if we don't use the AC! Summer- AC at 78 during the day, 75 at night. Winter- heater (gas) comes on at 65. We tend to use our gas fireplace over the heater and it uses much more gas but it's a nice comfy heat. We installed solar march 2019 (did it ourselves- DH is a contractor) and it's already almost paid for itself in saved power bills! During the summer we'd be paying over $350/mo for power! And since everyone is home (except me, I have to go to my classroom to teach remote) we're using SO MUCH more power these days!

AC kicks in at 75. Heat kicks in at 65. i would roast and freeze I wonder if it is different areas of the country that do Temps differently or if it comes down to personal preference I was wondering about that. Maybe it depends on that. I know my relatives in Hawaii can tolerate a house that is warmer than I like. I don’t like the humidity in the air but it doesn’t bother them. And my thermostat at 77 is too cold for them. And one friend from MN says our homes here are colder than back home. And then, we have a two story home and the bottom floor is always colder then the top, so it makes setting the thermostat tricky.

I’m in NYS. We cool to about 71-72 in the summer months and heat to 68 in winter. We generally don’t need either heat or AC in May, September and most of October. It’s nice to get a break on the utility bills those months.

AC kicks in at 75. Heat kicks in at 65. i would roast and freeze I wonder if it is different areas of the country that do Temps differently or if it comes down to personal preference Some difference can be humidity levels of different areas. Wetness always makes me feel much colder.
We have a tri-level home so it makes it a bit difficult to make everyone happy. AC is usually 76 so we don't freeze out the ones that spend most of their time in the lower level of the home and heat is usually 72 for the same reason, so the lower level sleeper doesn't freeze during the night.

at this moment, it is turned off. Beautiful day before the temps plunge this week.
When we are at home, the AC is at 74-75. When we are away, it is higher.
When we are at home, the heat starts out at 71, but when it is really cold, we bump to 73. When we are not home and when we are sleeping, it is lower.

AC- 74° It goes down to 71° at night in the heat of summer because I cannot sleep if I get too hot. Heat- 68°
We can’t do windows too often because it’s either too hot, rainy, of the pollen in the air is too much for me.
