I saw my orthopedist for knee injections this morning and I brain farted and forgot to ask him about KT tape. I was hoping when I’m doing more physical things it might give me some more support or even relief. I did call and left a message with his nurse for a callback.
But wondering if any Peas use it and find it helpful. Do the different colors mean anything or is is just for show? There are so many different ways to apply it for the same body part!

I'm pretty sure that's what the podiatrist used to tape my foot when I was being evaluated for plantar fasciitis. She wanted to tape it because she said it would give me a sense of what my foot would feel like with orthotics putting it in the correct position.
It did immediately feel better, so I guess in that sense, it worked. I don't think I'd ever have been able to tape myself (at least not on the sole of my foot while still putting foot/ankle in proper position to be taped) but it's probably easier with the knee.

i dont, but ds, an OT student is well trained in its use. The colors mean nothing, first of all. Second, it isnt easy to get it on correctly, so you will need to have him show you the right way.

ask for a PT or athletic trainer eval from your ortho dr. The Dr doesn't nomrally do those sort of things. Have you seen a PT prev for your knee .

My orthopedist’s office is an all in one place with PT, massage therapy etc all on staff. It’s huge! He’s the sports medicine doc for TU. There’s always some hot basketball players in the waiting area. Makes me feel all cougary. 😂😂

I used it a few years ago when I first started cycling for my elbows. I was having terrible pain, similar to tennis elbow. I did some googling, found a couple of videos on YT, and taped my elbows up for support. Worked like a charm.

My physical therapist put it on my knee a couple of years ago and it immediately helped. I could leave it on for 2-3 days before it got ratty.
I bought some from Amazon and I guess I couldn't get it right because it didn't help the way I did it. (The p.t. said the Amazon stuff is fine.)
She kind of felt around my knee before she stuck it on so I guess you need to know what you are doing to get it right.
I've been doing exercises fairly regularly for 1+ years now and that has also helped.

Yes, I have! I use it for my knees as well and it really does help a lot. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and I've done PT for it. The PT is the one that showed me how to do it. It's fairly easy once you've applied it a few times. There are lots of YouTube videos that could be helpful.

Oh and according to PT, 3-4 days with it on. Then take it off in the shower (because it REALLY sticks on and it can actually peel the top layer of skin off of you're not careful removing it). And then give it a day or two without tape.
A helpful tip? When you get it on in the right spot, use your fingernails and kind of scratch it on. And when you take it off? Keep your skin held taut as it hurts less coming off. Oh and rounding the edges of the tape will help it from peeling up at the corners a bit. I don't know how much/ often you're going to use it but buying it by the roll is better than the precut pieces.

Good tips brandy327! I have arthritis in both knees as well. Whats ironic is one knee the arthritis is because of the surgery I had when I was 17. And the other knee’s arthritis is because of how I walked because of the other knee bothering me for a few years. 🤦🏻♀️

Both of my knees are shot due to a lifetime of obesity and then arthritis diagnosed in my late 20s. I'm sure at some point I'll probably have to have them replaced... but I'll push that off for as long as I can. Thus far, I haven't had to even do cortisone shots but I'm sure that's coming. My left knee, every once in a while, with just the right movement will grind in such a way that it sends shooting pain all throughout my knee. It's happened about 4-5 times in the last 6 months so I feel like it's getting worse.

They still last me about a year. I’m getting the monovisc injections in January and that will give me some cartilage cushion back. They last about 1.5 - 2 years. Yea my weight has also contributed to it as well. It sucks because the activities I want to do that would help with the weight loss and just not being a couch potato are the things that make my knees swell up and hurt. I try to go for walks some evenings when the weather is good and after two blocks I have to turn back. Damn if I do damned if I don’t.

I try to walk 2-3 days a week... about a mile. But I walk so slow... takes me 20 mins to do a mile. But it's better than nothing. Thing is, I KNOW how much better my knees feel without the extra 60 lbs. I was there 3 years ago and having that weight off made such a huge difference. I'm trying hard to get back there.

I have used PT tape (actually Rock Tape brand) for the past eight years when needed. I've used it for plantar fasciitis and ulnar nerve issues in my dominant hand. I've used it for my shoulder when I pulled it doing a chin up and my hand slipped at CrossFit practice. My daughter - when she was on competitive dance and drill team sported it on her knee frequently. She also used it when she was recovering from a broken radius bone in her dominate hand (after the cast was removed).
The one thing about PT tape - you need to know how to apply it correctly for the injury you have or you will do more damage. Your PT can show you the proper area to apply and the correct tension to use when applying. Also, make sure your skin is clean and free of lotions and oils. PT tape nowadays doesn't stick like it did five years ago.

My only tip is for taking it off. Use baby oil. It will help dissolve the glue and it comes off easier.

I use KT tape when my plantar fasciitis is flaring up. I only wear it at night to sleep because my foot aches so bad. I've never had the tape last more than 24 hours, and it never stays on after it gets wet. I learned how to tape my foot from You Tube.

And now that we’ve had this discussion I’m seeing ads for NEW KT Tape blister tape.

Love it. Half a piece of KT Tape lets me do so much more with my knee then I could without. I stick to KT tape original, I can wear it about a week before it peels.

Thanks RosieKat 👍🏻 I went this morning and met with a PT in my docs office. They gave me two rolls and showed me how to apply. It was pretty much the same as the YouTube videos I watched. But nice getting a chance to see the pro do it and not waste it trying to get it right. I bookmarked the one you linked in my Amazon account for when I need to restock.

I hope it helps! Having them show you how to do it has to be worthwhile!
