Hubby had his lockdown bus pass eligible birthday yesterday. I’m making his cake today, chocolate cake with cherry jam and fresh cream. The 6 nations rugby is currently on tv and we’re having a quiet night. TOT not permitted here due to lockdown 🥺☹️

Well, it’s 9am here and until just a minute ago when I actually pulled up my calendar app I was sure that it was Sunday and that the time had changed 😆 sheesh! So I have an entire extra day. That’s good, right?!?
Quiet weekend around here. The good is that I’ll work on a crocheted gift as well as cards for the card exchange. Oh, and the Seahawks play tomorrow. Woot!

Similar to monklady123, I'll be putting bags on candy on a card table at the end of my walkway. I have no idea how many kids to expect - I made up 60 individual treat bags last night but do have leftover candy in case more kids show than expected. I'm planning on bundling up and sitting on the porch to see the costumes and wish the kids a Happy Halloween.
Over the course of the weekend I also plan to make soup, do some baking and maybe work on cards for the holiday exchange. I also have lots of cleaning and laundry to do.

My dd is here visiting from MT. and I haven’t seen her in a year when we were with my Mom while she was passing, so I’m happy as a clam! My ds and his gf and their new puppy who are part of our bubble will be coming over today to hang out and we will pass out candy socially distanced to whoever shows up this evening.

I'm gladly being a Halloween grinch! We are turning off the lights and watching a scary movie in the basement. We will make popcorn from our movie theater popcorn machine. I need to get some milk duds and my life will be complete for the rest of the day anyway. For the last 21 years, I have participated somehow on Halloween night and I'm doing more of what I want for once!

Ds2 is coming for an overnight visit tonight. 😀 Yea!!! Right now, I am cleaning my house. We had a bad ice storm + 6 in of snow earlier in the week and my floors show it. Don't you live in Texas?

Well, it was great for me, but boring for anyone else, I'm sure. I have been having issues with my car battery for ages. Something keeps draining it and since I am not driving to work every day, the battery just dies. They have come out and jumped it, I then drive for an hour, sometime I even let it continue to run in the driveway while I am watering out there just to continue the charge. Well, it died again for the umpteenth time the other day and when they jumped it and I went to drive, I heard a weird thump coming from under the car. I truly thought I ran over something. Except there was nothing behind me when I looked and it continued to do it. I got off the road and entered a big empty parking lot to look under the car and see if I could replicate the noise and every time I put the brakes on, it would make that noise again and lurch forward a bit. You know the kind of noise that sounds like $$$$ at least?
I don't have any money that I want to spend on car repairs at the moment. I want to put that money toward my repairs on the house. I also do not want to put car repairs on a credit card. I figured I would just find out the cost and then rent a car once a month for a couple of days so that I can get my medications and groceries. Then once my house is finished and sold, I have already planned to bring the car back and fix a couple of things that are already on my list with the car - all minor things, nothing to do with the operation of it. Thinks like I want to put a hitch on it for towing a small lightweight trailer, and there is a latch that broke on a flip up door compartment, replace the windshield wipers, etc. I do not want to pay a couple thousand on the car right now, especially since I am not driving it.
The final problem and cost? Zip! In fact, he didn't even charge me the $185 that I agreed to for them to discover the problem! Nor did they charge for the brand new Subaru Forester that the let me borrow to run and get my medication while they were looking at my car! (I think they do that so you will fall in love with the new car and want one. I did and I do.)
They told me to call AAA who installed my last battery and tell them that their service department checked it out thoroughly and it needs to be replaced. It is still under warranty so that won't cost me anything either. That battery has been a dud since they put it in. And the issue that I thought was going to be the horrible expensive one? He said my brake pads were getting low and I should get new brake pads wiring 7,000 miles. They could not find anything that would make that lurching or the noise unless the thinner brake pads made it. And they didn't charge me a penny for anything!

I was 150 miles away from home in a remote area and my battery started giving me the same problems. It would not charge! I was stranded but got a jump to the nearest Toyota dealer 50 miles away. They checked out my battery and found out it was bad and replaced it at no cost because it was under warranty. Love it when good things happen once in awhile. So glad for you too!

The first one wasn't much more than a dusting, but this last one was really wet and icy.

I got my flu shot this morning! My grocery store does drive-thru flu shots, but never when I've been there to shop until this morning...even better was I didn't have to wait in a line.
It's a very nice (although windy) day so DH is able to get a lot done outside while I'm inside keeping an eye on our 15yo who had his wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. We all get to have a less stressful day since the Nebraska game was cancelled...

mikklynn ....Wow, that looks SO good! Thanks for posting the recipe! I've been struggling the past few weeks, BUT....doing all kinds of things to try to make life happier. 1. This morning, I sent (belated) Halloween cards to nursing home residents. I enclosed photos of our doggies in costumes. I realize not everybully likes dogs, BUT, most people we've met through the years get a lot of joy and giggles from our doggies. I hope this pik brings lots of joy, especially to residents who haven't had visitors in a lonnng time. 2. Tonight will be FUN, even with this stupid pandemic! Several of our neighbors have agreed about still having trick-or-treating safely tonight. I'm excited to see who trick-or-treats at our house---DH and I love all the costumes! The only bummer will be that people usually stay and chat/ pet the doggies---this year that won't happen, but that's okay! 3. Made rice krispie treats (with toasted marshmallows on top) and extra fudgey brownies for our paw-some veterinarians and their wonder-bull staff. I'm tired of crying so often about the doggie we lost in June, and I felt too lazy to make the usual treats that I make for the staff for every holiday. But I knew if I forced myself into the kitchen and do it, it'd make me feel better, and of course--- it did! I REFUSE to let my depression win, and could NOT let this fun holiday pass and NOT bring them treats!!!

I'd be happy with just the cake, but I'm sure the cream takes it to the next level !!! I binged several epis of "Great British Baking Show" last night, and I read your post in a beautiful English accent in my mind. Can you explain what lockdown bus pass eligibility entails? Does it mean you get to ride the bus as a special treat on your birthday?

Also, Krispy Kreme is running a special if you purchase a dozen Halloween donuts, you get a dozen glazed for $1 I wish I hadn't read that----now I have a serrrrious craving !!! Wow, it's been YEARS since we had one of those glazed donuts...YUM! Every single shop closed in our city except ONE. Thankfully, it's a bit too far of a drive just for a donut, so I've avoided it. Hmm....but now I'm thinking mayyyybe I'll to tomorrow. delivering Halloween treat booze bags to friends doorsteps! I think you should win "best neighbor of the year" award !!!!!!!!!! mnmloveli .... I LOVE your paw-carved pumpkin, and the cute doggies!!!

I am sorting thru my vast amount of fabric and pulling out Christmas Fabric. I will then sew bags with a pull strings to give to the local women's shelter and then another organization puts in all kinds of personal need items for each woman for Christmas. So much fun fabric!

desertgirl ....how COOL that your neighbor is building a Batman car !!!! Our doggies needed that to go with their costumes in 2018! I would LOVE to see a pik if you can! Regarding what you said about him being a surgeon with great skillzzz.... my (engineer) DH is the same way---VERY talented and builds amazing things from scratch. I'll post a pik sometime of the ersatz "wheelchair/walker" he's been working SOO diligently on for Meaty (and, by "diligent", I mean, he has designed, built, re-designed, re-built, tweaked, etc. SO many times! His dedication to help Meaty walk easier (horri-bull arthritis) is admirable! I wish I'd thought to ask him to build a car for the doggies back in 2018 (P.S...that year was so fun, and it was my first time sewing a tutu for my girl! ) I can TOTALLY relate to what you said about childhood Halloweens! My friends and I walked our huge neighborhood for HOURS, and had a blast! SO many trick-or-treaters, the people who gave out candy were so friendly, and one of my other fave memories was after we got home. My siblings and I would organize/ sort and trade our HUGE abundance of candy that we dumped out of our huge pillow cases. We also made rude comments about the crappy/cheap candy some people gave out. I swore I would ALWAYS give out name brand, GOOD candy when I grew up. Another memory my sibs and I still giggle about was this house of single guys we called "The Bachelors". They gave out old pennies, which annoyed us----like they couldn't take 5 minutes out of their lives to grab a bag of candy?

I send cards to our shut ins from church. It feels good to do something for others, when I can't volunteer right now. Awww, that's wonderful that you do that! And I know exactly what you mean! We can't go in person right now, which I HATE---but a card or letter means to world to them! One of my best friends (who has a VERY busy career and helps a lot with her grandchildren) takes her adora-bull bulldog to nursing homes, assisted living centers, elementary schools, psychiatric hospitals, and cancer treatment centers. (WHERE she finds the time is a complete mystery...hee hee!) She misses seeing the joy on patients' faces sooo much! I can't wait till they can start again. (I used to take my doggies to visit also, but had to stop for other reasons. I HOPE to do it again someday, though!)

My hubby was 60, so in Wales 🏴, he’s now entitled to free travel on the bus services throughout Wales, he applied for the pass and it’s currently being processed. You’ll have to imagine my post in a Welsh accent though

Getting my house puppy ready. I pick up my new puppy tomorrow night. She’s a mix of bichon, poodle & cavalier.
My last puppy died at 17 a little while ago. I know he would want me to have someone to lay on the couch with and watch tv. Also go on my daily walks.

We attended our first in person bar mitzvah since February. They were only allowed 46 guests, we wore masks, distanced in the sanctuary, and lunch was served outside at tables for 2 or 3. I sat with Dh. We were all given a monogrammed fleece blanket. We could talk to people at other tables. If we got up to walk around we needed to put on a mask.
Dd also had an in person bat mitzvah. It had 43 guests. Distanced and masks. Lunch in the ballroom. She was placed at a table with 2 other kids. It was a table for 10 but they had only 3 kids at it. They received a boxed lunch. I was more nervous for dd because her lunch was inside. She said it was ok. Hard to feel happy because you’re so far from everyone. Dh and I had such a nice time. It was so nice to be able to celebrate something. People have had bar mitzvahs under worse situations : in hiding, in attics, in barns. They were worried if they waited that not all of the grandparents would be there to celebrate. I think celebrating in ways that we didn’t expect makes us stronger. Tell me that in January. I’ve just cancelled little dd’s bat mitzvah and moved it back 1 year.
