Man what did Santa ever do to her? Santa and God. Both dudes who creep-watch you (they know if you've been naughty or nice) all year, both dudes who ask you to tell them what you want, both dudes who sometimes don't give it to you, both dudes you learn may not be all you were told at your parents' knees.

I’m bidding on the slime. But sending payment via Chick-fil-A gift cards. It’s just easier for me. Yes, I know I’m not really in the Christmas mood.

This auction goes beyond disappointing to me, it downright pisses me off. I unfollowed Cathy Zielske as soon as she posted about it. She was hanging by a thread already with my follow. She pretends to be kind but her true colors often come out. It is so gross. If my friend is having a hard time, I don't ask strangers to help her (especially when making over $300,000 on a Go Fund Me), I help her. Or vice versa. All these scrap people could have pitched in and helped her. And I hate to break it to Liz, but she may have to alter her plans. Plenty of people have to change their lifestyle when a death happens in the family-especially when they didn't purchase life insurance. She may have to change going to school full time and go part time and get a more traditional job. She may have to sell the house and downsize. It happens. It sucks. She's fortunate that she probably will never end up homeless. Tell me about it. There are several families that had to leave the school district because one parent died of cancer and there used to be zero affordable housing here. It’s *slightly* better now.

Meanwhile, my favourite podcasters are all teaming together next week to do a Black Friday live stream charity event to fund the senatorial race in Georgia. I'll be listening along but not donating as I'm not a US citizen (not allowed). I'll make a couple of donations elsewhere in lieu of contributing to the senatorial race fund. The 2020 US elections are not over yet! US Peas: don't forget you can make an impact by supporting Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff and help flip Georgia if you're looking to donate for the holidays. does that count as a charitable donation for taxes? I mean to donate directly to a political candidate not necessarily the podcast

A political campaign is not a charity, and giving money to them is not a “donation,” it is a “campaign contribution.”

I've seen a couple mentions along this line. I only follow CZ on YouTube. Can someone elaborate? She’s an over the hill hipster still trying to be cool. She’s failing. This! This! A thousand times this! I couldn't put my finger on why she annoys me so much, and you nailed it! Thank you!

This is beyond disgusting. After getting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the GoFundMe?!? They should be ashamed to flaunt their greed so openly. In my area people are not only dealing with COVID financial hardships, but we had wildfires in August destroy many neighborhoods and almost 1000 people lost EVERYTHING. The sweet woman who has been trying to keep her Chinese restaurant afloat this year lost her home to the fires and then opened up her restaurant to feed the firefighters and fire victims at no charge. Call me harsh, but a lot of people have suffered loss this year and seeing this kind of money grab for the entitled Kartchner clan makes me When I saw this in IG I almost spit my tea over my computer screen. It is plain disgusting. In the middle of pandemic and hardship and after doing the GOFundMe, they will do this auction. Why? looking at her ig feed, they don't look homeless to me or struggling with life at all. They are privileged. Last year, 3 of my relatives died and 2 had a major operation. The hospital bills and all the expenses for 5 relatives totaled at around $100,000.00 or 4 millions in our money. That's a lot. You can already buy a 8 cars or 2 and a decent house here. But our relatives never want to pass the burden to other people and ask for donation. We are all responsible for our own lifestyle. They have a lifestyle and yet they having this donation drive for what again? I am also harsh, but this is reality. They could have donate the money to people who really need it.

OMG Cathy Z begging for bids is pathetic. I guess her contribution had no bids this morning so the begging commenced. Someone bid $400. The package includes: Her out of print books signed by CZ, a card designed by CZ & a mystery box of stamps. Some are "very gently used." Seriously? I can't believe anyone would pay that much money for this auction item. I keep thinking about how much good that $400 could do for a food bank for people that are in dire need. I really wish this auction was for a food bank or Toys for Tots or some other charity that could help those that need it most.

I wonder how many of those forking over hundreds of dollars for 'gently used' celebrity cast-offs open their purse that wide for refugees, or foster kids, or sick kids, or any of the other literally millions of causes who are in as great or greater in need than the wealthy white widow brigade?

Wow. Emily Falconbridge. Haven't heard that name in a LONG time. 15 years? She shills essential oils for an MLM now and I had to unfollow her. She's a super nice person IRL but she got way too deep into the MLM and it was just not my thing.

For a piece of "art" that he made for CHA. Good lord.

Seriously, $1300, that's more than our entire Christmas... for 2 adults and 3 kids. What is the goal of this? To buy each child a car for Christmas? FFS.

I’ve started and deleted several responses to this thread so I’m just going to go for it. I don’t think that the grief of DL and her family is mutually exclusive with the pain of others in the world- I think we all acknowledge that we can care about both. I think one of the reasons that this strikes such a chord is that it is conflating love with money. We spend all holiday season posts on FB about not telling kids that super expensive gifts are from Santa because then the less fortunate kids will feel unloved. Giving more money (I’m too lazy to add up what the auction totals are up to now) to “shower” the K kids won’t fix their problems, it won’t replace their dad, it may not even be earmarked for the therapy needed to cope. It’s a feel good response to a problem which has no solution. I think it also touches a nerve because they have up to now enjoyed a standard of living many of us don’t enjoy. There was a hand slapping post this morning here that quickly disappeared, but I think most of us would say if you consider yourself part of her community and want to donate, more power to you. But throwing more and more money in their direction feels really gross to others of us because of the level of privilege they as a family have and the feeling that we, as the unwashed masses of adoring fans, do not owe it anyone to show our love and sincere human concern by parting with money during a time of great economic strain.

That is a crazy amount of money and that’s just one auction!! (And money I bet TH could have venmoed her quite easily on the down low) Imagine how many foster kids that could provide a Christmas for or how many hungry people that could feed. I hate the whole cancel culture thing , but I really don’t want to support any of the people involved in this.

That’s worse than a phone call from Becky Higgins. These people are seriously ducked. I am so glad I already unfollowed them all.

Who the hell are these people bidding hundreds of dollars for a person they most likely do not know? Are they going to wake up tomorrow and be like WTF did I do?
I think the whole thing is gross, but if the bids would be hovering right around the "value" or double of the item, I would have still rolled my eyes wondering why her "friends" can't just help her, but the ridiculous amounts are just so bizarre to me.
