Has anyone done any of these types of games? I want to get my son a subscription for Christmas but would like a stand alone game for a friend that isn't over the top expensive. The Hunt a Killer on Amazon is only available from individual sellers and they are pricey. Thanks for any info!

We were gifted the Hunt a Killer premium box Bakers Dozen last year, and we had a blast figuring out the mystery. This one was pretty family friendly. So this year I bought a Hunt a Killer game off Amazon — it’s called Death at the Dive Bar and is about $30. It seems like a great deal and a good introduction to these kinds of games.
I also ordered another premium from HOK directly— it’s called Hawthorn Junction, and I spent $100 on it. It looks intriguing and I’m hoping this is something we can delve into once the holidays are over and things start to get boring. My only complaints are that this particular experience comes in a tote bag rather than a box. It also comes with two bars of VERY scented soap, and we’re missing a poster. The poster is supposedly being shipped to us but I’ve received a few BS emails from the company, so we’ll see. They did send me a digital copy of it, but for the money I paid, I want all of the game components.
I’m interested in a membership or in trying a box set, but that’s almost double what I paid for Hawthorn Junction, and I’m having trouble justifying that.

Thanks Jili, this is helpful. I will get my son the 6 month subscription. He's been working from home for 8 months now and will be a while longer I'm sure. I think he will enjoy it. It's $165 and pretty much his Christmas. Amazon is out of the Dive Bar one. It is only available from individual sellers at double the price. Have you played that one yet? She will most likely be playing alone. I will have to think of something else for my friend or go with a different company.

I've looked at these too. I wasn't looking for a subscription.

I’m saving both games I bought as family Christmas gifts, though maybe I’ll cave on the Dive bar and we’ll do it in the next week or two. Then I can pass it along to dd and her boyfriend. I must have gotten Dive Bar just in time.

These look fun for a younger couple I know, thanks for the suggestion and info.
I am ordering the DIve Bar one from Target, but just thought it was funny that I brought up the game and underneath it said, “would these other items be helpful?” Then it had a bunch of combat ant killer type products.

So has anyone done Hunt a Killer as a subscription? We're considering it for our lockdown date nights. I'm trying to decide between that and the Deadbolt Mystery Society which is a different mystery every month.

Here is a referral for 30% off first month's subscription if anyone is interested. fbuy.io/hak/24edtheh

I have never heard of these games. I would love this! I wish I had had access to these when my son was a teen. He loved playing games and I love a good mystery so we both would have enjoyed these. I will have to ask him if his fiance is into games. Thank you for the suggestion. Are there any that are for just one player?

FYI Deadbolt Mystery Society and Finders Seekers are both discounted today if you subscribe through CrateJoy.
DMS has a 30% off single one-time boxes if you go through their website.

And of course I just ordered 2 single boxes on Friday, with 20% off. Now I'm wondering if I should also get a subscription, or maybe a subscription to Escape the Crate. I have a feeling it's going to be a long long winter.
