But not sure what kind to buy. My old one is a Cuisinart but it’s 24 years old and it’s getting harder and harder to use. I don’t need fancy and don’t want to spend $300+ on one but want an easy to use one for basics like shredding, slicing, making pesto or blending cream cheese.
I read a few reviews of the cuisinart available at Costco and they were mixed.

I also have a Breville but mines a 12 cup. I love it. But I think that's more than you want to spend. I know when I was searching, Cuisinart was one of the top picks. I would have gone with one, but dh found a deal on the Breville.

Honestly, if it’s something you’ll use, invest in a good one and it will last you for decades and for me, it’s Magimix all the way. They come with a thirty year warranty on the motor for a reason - they are super-powerful and brilliant in every way.

I’ve gone through a number of Cuisinarts and KitchenAids over the years. I bought a Breville 12 cup food processor last year and I am stunned by how much better it is. I will never go back again. Although I can’t imagine this lasting any less than 10-15 years - the motor is so powerful and quiet.

I have gone through both a Cuisinart and a Kitchenaid and I refuse to buy another processor that has plastic/acrylic bowls/lids. The motors on both machines work just fine but I’ve spent so much on replacement parts over the years. The next one I buy, when I win the lottery, will be a professional all metal machine.

Following along as I need a new food processor as well. I finally gave up on my 30+ year old Cuisinart. The motor was still good, just the plastic bowls that caused the issues. After the second bowl got stuck on the base and then broke trying to get it off, I got rid of it.

I don’t use it often and it’s powerful enough but was curious about other brands.

I just bought the Cuisinart one at Costco after about 20 years with my KitchenAid. I am going to hand wash all parts to try to prevent the plastic bowl from cracking. (thinking maybe the heated dry setting on the dishwasher had something to do with this?) That was the downfall of my last one. It had cracks, leaked, and then finally got stuck on the base with the lid on and the food inside.

I have a 20 year old cuisinart. It is still working. I hand wash the parts. I have been eyeing the breville and this thread has sold me.

I’m not sure what brand the one I have is (maybe Black & Decker?) but it’s awful to clean. It has a million parts and some of them have weird small areas where food gets stuck and is hard to get something in there to clean those places. Whoever designed it obviously never *used* a food processor before! The next one I buy is going to be easier to take apart and clean. I have a Sunbeam Little Oskar mini food processor that I’ve had since I got married over 30 years ago, and honestly I use that thing way more than the big one. I should have bought a big one like that when I had a chance.

I have a Breville Sous Chef too (12 cup) and I love it. I had a cheaper one in the past, and it just sucked and I never used it. I figured a food processor was a longer term investment rather than burning through cheap motors to save a buck. I saw it on sale today in Canada, maybe there are some black Friday sales I hand wash mine too- honestly, I think it is easier. It doesn't have too many nooks or crannies on it, so it is an easy wash.

It doesn't have too many nooks or crannies on it, so it is an easy wash. What I love best about my Breville Sous Chef is that the bowls are all sealed. With all my past food processors, the bowl has a center part that sticks up and has a hole in the middle where the shaft drives the blade. When you try to empty something liquidy out of the bowl, you either have to carefully hold the blade down while trying to pour the contents of the bowl out or you pour a bunch out of the center hole. With the Breville bowls, the shaft in built into the bowl itself, so the bowl is completely sealed even without the blade in it - no holes. So you can take the blade out and pour and scrape the contents of the bowl out and not worry about slicing yourself and/or your spatula on the sharp blades. I didn’t know about that when I bought it and it has made using the food processor that much more pleasant.
