But dear GAWD! Somebody tell me who the actress playing Daphne reminds me of? She reminds me of Christina Hendricks, "Joan" from Mad Men.

I started it yesterday and watched the first two episodes. Romance isn’t my genre, and I am not a regency person (I do not enjoy Jane Austen films that much, eg), but I am into it.

I liked the show, but I thought they dragged things out a bit.
I’ll definitely watch next season.

The bee is the catalyst in book 2, Anthony’s story. That was my first Julia Quinn novel when it first came out. I never did finish the series, it kinda petered out for me.

But dear GAWD! Somebody tell me who the actress playing Daphne reminds me of? With the sort of round mouth when it's closed. A little bit older than the actress from Bridgerton. I keep seeing her face in my head as a little distressed, like from a suspense film. I thought it might be Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place, but I don't think that's it. It is driving me mad! Help me, dear peas!! Probably a long shot, but if you’ve ever seen the British Soap Coronation Street then you might be thinking of the actress who plays Sally Metcalfe. The actress playing Daphne is her daughter.

I didn’t even finish the first episode. Simon is fabulous, but Daphne? They have zero chemistry together. Even though I’m sure they’re closer in age than they appear, she looks like a young girl and he looks like a full-fledged man and it sort of grosses me out.
Like others, I’m super disappointed in Anthony who was one of my favorites in the series. I also loved Colin. I thought he was the favorite son and I had such a clear picture in my head of him, but he looks like this young awkward thing. And I know that my mind pictures things differently, but I loved Penelope. I also really like the actress that plays her from other series, but she does not fit with Colin at all. It feels like the casting directors picked anybody who was British and threw them in different roles without seeing if there was any chemistry at all.
I am really surprised by people who like this Series. I read the books so long ago so I’m not overly worried that they don’t fit with my imagination, particularly because Simon is extraordinary, but I would like to see two people who had chemistry together and I don’t see that anyone has chemistry in this entire series. Well, maybe Anthony and his opera singer😊

the chemistry between daphne and simon grows.. and sizzles. the matching of 18 yr old women with men in their 30's was common.. so that doesn't surprise me. men did not often marry in early 20's.. the bridgerton parents were an exception to the rule. (they were 17 and 20 I think)

Watched a lot of British tv, but not the soaps.

(they were 17 and 20 I think) I had to look up the actress playing Daphne, and she is 25. I thought she looked very young to be playing some of those racy sexscenes, but she is just a young looking 25-year old. But still.... there seems to be an age-gap between Simon and Daphne. I know that was common in real life, but it looks somewhat icky on tv. Especially when Marina is almost married off to that old guy. Ew.

Finished it early this morning - binged it over the last 3 days. The soundtrack, styling and costuming took me out of the storyline a few times, but not enough to stop watching. I do have to say Lady Featherington is far more compelling and sympathetic than in the books series. Violet seems sillier and fades in comparison, And we get way more royalty and less Smith-Smythe musicals.
I’ve read the book series and have been a fan of Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes over the years. The books have humor, which the series kept, and added saucy storylines not in the books. I enjoyed meeting off page and backstory characters like Marina earlier - that is one of the perks of a TV series being able to switch perspectives.
I’ll definitely check out Season 2, although I’ll have to reread Anthony’s book. It’s not one of my favorites.

I binged the entire season overnight (finished just after 4am). I enjoyed it, but I felt the sex scenes went on a bit long. It wasn’t that I was pearl clutching as much as watching Simon/Anthony pound Daphne/Siena, and her head bounce around, wasn’t exactly sexy to watch just reminded me of porn. I’m also an original reader of the first few books when they came out. I was worried that the modern liberties taken would be distracting, but I think it was well incorporated and didn’t detract from the story.
The actress playing Daphne resembles a blend of Dakota Johnson and Christina Hendricks. Definitely one of those faces where I’m racking my brain trying to figure out who she reminds me of.

If I'm remembering the book series correctly, there was a group of sisters or cousins that played instruments for musicales, etc., that the ton would go to as an outing. The fun part was that these girls were staggeringly awful musicians and everyone always tried to get out of attending the events. The girls knew they were awful and they always tried to get out of playing, but they couldn't leave the group until they got married. I am missing that being in the series on Netflix. I think it could have been a fun addition. For the book series, it also provided a spinoff series of books that were in the same vein as Bridgerton if anyone wants to look them up.

The Smythe-Smyth or Smyth-Smythe family (I can never remember which way it goes). I've been thinking about them lately and agree it would have been a wonderful addition to the series. I recall they play a larger part in later books, definitely in Hyacinth's story, and I think only one of the girls knew she was terrible, the rest all thought they were fabulous.

Yes, I remember the quartet a little better now and that they were more important in the later books. I still think they would have been a fun addition. Hopefully if there are more seasons, they will make an appearance.

We also binged it in a day. I loved how well they did the evolution of Daphne’s character from the first episode to the last.
And I adore Eloise.
I need more!

But dear GAWD! Somebody tell me who the actress playing Daphne reminds me of? I’m reminded of Keira Knightly - it’s the underbite, and the tone of her voice is very similar.

My friend has been urging me to watch, and I knew a number of Peas were enjoying it. Last night, I decided to check out an episode, but I expected not to like it. Wrong! I watched the first two episodes back to back, and forced myself to stop so that I could enjoy a few more eveniings of entertainment. And may I say, The Duke of Hastings....WOW!

They talk about little esle at work currently. I have watched a couple of episodes and am enjoying it.
Rege-Jean Page is being mooted as a possible James Bond. I can see why.

I found the Daphne/Simon story the least interesting part of it all. I want to check out the books. If you liked this, you might like The Great, also on Netflix. Very similar but with more intrigue.
