I'm watching with DD15 and we're both really enjoying it. It's fun and light hearted. Not as historically accurate as Jane Austen but definitely worth watching.

I love Eloise. Love her.
I wonder if the books are as quirky as the show.

I love Eloise. Love her. I wonder if the books are as quirky as the show. I love what she says, but I seriously cannot get past how old she is. I don't know the actress, but she looked as if she were in her 30s to me and I looked her up and she is. She is supposed to be this sassy 17yo. I get having her be in her early 20s, but she doesn't look close to 17 to me. The early books (the first few) are very good. I would recommend. I did love Eloise in the books and I really do love what she says, but she seems a bit odd to me on screen.

Ok, I have just one episode left, and am kind of saving it. I also went and read the first book, and I have to say, this is the rare case where I find the show much more interesting than the book, probably because of all of the subplots (and because I find sex writing clunky).

It is on my list to watch. I love Jane Austen, so I am hoping that this will be a good distraction from all of the current bad news. I want to also check out The Great, so thanks to Mrs Smith, I believe, for the rec.

But dear GAWD! Somebody tell me who the actress playing Daphne reminds me of? With the sort of round mouth when it's closed. A little bit older than the actress from Bridgerton. I keep seeing her face in my head as a little distressed, like from a suspense film. I thought it might be Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place, but I don't think that's it. It is driving me mad! Help me, dear peas!! Probably a long shot, but if you’ve ever seen the British Soap Coronation Street then you might be thinking of the actress who plays Sally Metcalfe. The actress playing Daphne is her daughter. She is her mother’s double.

Ok what is the symbolism of the bee?? Their father, Violet’s husband, had a reaction to and died from a bee sting. I’ve been rewatching the episodes and noticed the bees turn up in several places, like in Eloise’s hair clips, and embroidered on Benedict’s collar.

Dh and I watched the first episode. For some reason, his daughter thought he would like it and he stuck with it for her. It isn't his thing at all.
I don't get it. There seems to be very little plot to this beautiful production. If you are going to put that much money in costumes and filming, you should at least have a story to tell. The whole thing seems like a cliche romance novel.

Sure but right now I think we all need a little lightness in our lives

The whole thing seems like a cliche romance novel. My dh thought the same thing and wouldn’t keep watching with me. I think he realized he made a mistake because he’d start watching from the kitchen. I quite enjoyed the plot lines that emerged. They provided some wonderful dinner conversation with my girls about a woman’s place and how far women have come. We actually had similar conversation while watching the queen’s gambit. While more fun then the queen’s gambit, the show has good messages about the wrongs in society at the time. I also loved the modern twists. They kept us guessing and questioning. I loved this show.

Ok what is the symbolism of the bee?? I think it's also their crest, because they are Bridgertons, but the big thing is that a bee killed the Viscount of Bridgerton (the dad) and the current Viscount is 100% certain he will not outlive his dad and be killed by a bee as well. Spoiler alert: he does not get killed.

The bee is a spoiler for book 2. I also thought book 2 was better than 1. I only read the first two when they came out. Thirdly, I’m unhappy with the characterization of Anthony in the show. He was more charming in the books. He’s such a wet rag in the show and the drama with the opera singer is NOT Anthony.

Daphne is the chick in Younger that was with Josh. I recognized her voice before I recognized her face.
I think they do a good job of building up the storylines of others much like Downton Abby did with the siblings and the servants.
One of my all time favorite books/movies is Pride and Prejudice. This has a little of that going on.

I came in late and I am missing something that's probably obvious - what's the relationship between the Bridgertons and the Fetheringotns? Are Violet and Portia sisters?

The whole thing seems like a cliche romance novel. I agree. It's a badly written soap opera, like a Victorian and Falcon Crest or Dallas, but with a more sex. It's just silly fun. I like Eloise and the actress who plays her. I don't know the books, but I hope they do something interesting with her character.

I am on Ep 4. Really enjoying this show. Love the costumes, the diverse cast (the duke is perfection!) and the modern chamber music sound track! I am not a huge Jane Austen fan, so I didn't think I would like this as much, but it is the light fluff we all need in our lives!
