cleaning my workspace when I am done scrapping. I am horrible about this. I just don't wanna! LOL But I recently just got it all cleaned up, and I made 2 cards and cleaned it up again. And I was as proud of myself as a preschooler drawing a triangle. <3
What are you habits--do you clean up right after or not? Any tips? My space really does look nice and inviting today.

Yes, right away. It’s like unpacking the suitcases after a vacation. If I don’t do it immediately it just sits for weeks 😂

Yes, right away. It’s like unpacking the suitcases after a vacation. If I don’t do it immediately it just sits for weeks 😂 Lol, I have a suitcase taking up floorspace in my craft room right now. I didn't even take it anywhere, but I store other bags inside of it, and none of it ever got put away when I was done.

Always clean as you go, and clean after a project. It makes starting so much more enjoyable, on top of having a nice space that doesn't constantly look like a tornado has hit.
If you're having a hard time cleaning up, consider reorganizing your space so it's easier to put things back where they belong. Eliminate steps - like instead of in its original packaging, inside a container, in a drawer, put items you use frequently 0-1 steps away. Either sitting on the desk in a bin or in a drawer, but not buried behind a whole treasure hunt of actions to access.
Try to eliminate pain points. Is that drawer always getting stuck, hard to open? Maybe the slides need waxing. Stuff always falling out of that cute-but-useless container? Swap it for one that holds its supplies properly. Never use that machine because it's in another room, on a high shelf, and hard to get down? Put it closer to your workspace, preferably set up and ready to go. A craft space has to be functional first. Too often we get led astray by the Instagram-worthy showroom project spaces that are often impractical to actually work in.
Good luck with your new habit! It's a worthwhile one to pursue.

I clean as I go with a few exceptions - right now I pulled all my scraps and leftover embellishments out of my Christmas box and am challenging myself to make cards with as many as possible...so they are out and have been for several days. But before I move on to something else -they'll get either put away or tossed.

I always clean up after I have finished, and try to tidy as I am going.
My craft room is doubling up as a working from home space now too, so it's vital that I clear away when I have finished crafting. I also clear away once I have finished work. It really helps me use the space in two different ways with a fresh mind each time.
I have an Ikea Kallax that I have a fabric storage box in for all my tools like glue gun, envelope punch board, fuse tool, trimmers etc. I just dump all my tools in there when I am finished with them and it helps me keep my room tidy, but also organised. Organising doesn't have to be super organised and thought-through to work.

i've always done this. i learned it from my dad. he always straightened his work desk before going home and i just picked up that habit for work and home. DH thinks it's weird but i've seen his desk and that's exactly what i'm trying to avoid. lol

I clean up when I finish a project. Since I have a dedicated room, it doesn't bother me to be in the middle of a project and have it messy. And by messy, I mean my table is messy. The rest of the room is clean.

I hope only in jest! I’ve strategically angled my camera so you can only see a couple of my tools and some plants, and not my albums that line the wall on the other side. It felt like an invasion of my privacy having them all on show for everyone to see.

The last couple of years I've been very intentional to clean up because I discovered that a messy area doesn't motivate me to create. I'm much more productive this way. I do have a little dish for embellishment carry overs that I hope to get on the next layouts.

Yes, they just like teasing me...oh she's not really working from home, we can see she's scrapbooking all day, etc...What they don't know is that they are seeing about 1/16th of my stuff, lol. Jokes on them cuz all they can see are my punches, not my wall of paper, my cart, etc....

I'm currently working from as well, and yes, my craft space is now also my work from home space - so I do tidy up every evening. Even when I was not working from home, I tried to maintain some sort of semblance or order in my work space.
And I LOLed when reading @kendramage "jokes on them" comment - as all of my materials are not viewable on the screen, however, I am very happy to be working directly in my happy space each and every day during these crazy times.

I haven’t had a dedicated scrap space in a long time, and when I did the kids were smaller so I’ve always cleaned as I went. In fact I often spent crafting time organizing rather than crafting....
At the beginning of lockdown, an assortment of family crafting items were visible on camera. I was short staffed, working 70 hours remote and frankly didn’t care. Then it was clear this wasn’t temporary...and I decided to unpack my 2012 scrap stash, and combine with all the craft and art supplies all over the house for creative relief for all of us.
So we’ve played musical chairs with 3 areas of our house trying to adapt to remote school/work as time has marched on (and weather - no A/C required a July move to the basement. After it was clear we were going to melt the people and the computers in our south-facing second floor loft).
As a result, all crafting supplies, photos, albums and memorabilia were moved 3-4x across all 3 stories of our home.. It’s still a hot mess in the loft area, but I’m making progress while trying to work around the whole family’s pile of things to sell.

I don't have a scrap space but when I did, I wasn't concerned about the look of the room. I did like the table area cleared off after each page was done. I now scrap in my living room and kitchen. What's helped is having a scrap basket. I throw the extra whatevers in there and put them all away at once when it's full. It's generally scrap paper and a few embellishments. It really does kill my mojo if I'm constantly putting things away.

I am ok about cleaning up when I'm done, the problem is that I'm not very good at getting to done. I have a lot of little piles of half-finished things, things I'm trying to puzzle out, stuff I don't have the energy to work on... I don't have much space, but if I put unfinished things away I usually don't come back to them for ages or ever. I work a lot better if I can muddle through things little by little, often over a period of days or weeks. But the mess (as relatively tidy as it is) does bug me.
I guess I need better systems for projects in process.
Cleaning up the tools and supplies as I go is no problem. I don't have too much and it's mostly very easy to get out and put away. I only leave things like stamps and dies out if I'm thinking about using them for unfinished projects...

I did it again tonight! Made 2 cards and cleaned up when done. I think someone told me once it takes 26 times to create a habit, so I've got 24 to go... I am lucky I'm not working from that space as well. I am loud at work (I'm a music therapist) so I had to set up a workspace in a room woth a door.

Nothing wrong with multi-threading your workflow, just make sure your in-progress stuff has somewhere to live if you want to reclaim your workspace for a bit. What size/shape of container would work best for you will depend on what kind of things you like to work on. I've used in the past: Binders with page protectors Manila folders Plastic pouches with snap closures Spare boxes Accordion folders Ziplock bags

Nine times out of ten I clean up after every layout. That one time will make me avoid scrapping for days or even weeks. When I finally clean it up it’s like a breath of fresh air.

I only clean up after about 1/2 the time. Usually because I'm in the midst of a project, which lately has been only card making. Sometimes I'm up working late and just hit a wall and leave it, but then the first thing I do when I come in is tidy up. My craft room is pretty cluttered since it's small and my craft supplies runneth over but cleaning up the work space on my table is definitely gratifying.

I found that pouches/binders/bags were a step too far for me - I want to put the project out of sight, or move it from my desk to another holding spot, but I don't want to feel like I have put it away - so a baking tray where I can lay the components out and move it around my craft room seems to be working well for me.

I'm in my crafty space for WFH days too and it does help me make sure I have a "clean" area on my scrappy desk behind me. I typically clean up after I finish a layout but sometimes it can sit on my desk for weeks, especially during the pandemic when I haven't been as good about making time to create. In my new house, I purchased an Elfa storage cart from the container store for the closet. I was lucky enough to get it during the sale and I had a gift card. It has wheels to move in and out of the closet. They have different sizes and number of drawers so you can customize for your needs and add the wheels, etc. I wasn't planning on using it this way, but I realized it's perfect for "current projects". The drawers in the one I bought are big enough to house 12x12 papers. So right now I have my alcohol ink supplies in one draw, fall supplies for my PL layouts I haven't finished in another, and then a drawer with my DD supplies. I'm really loving this new approach even know it's only been a couple of days. Here's a link if anyone wants to take a look: www.containerstore.com/s/elfa-white-mesh-rolling-cart-with-drawers/d?q=white+elfa+storage+drawer&productId=10017393

My Jenga system seems to work. I pull out stuff and play with it with my focus on whatever I am creating. I usually work on one theme at a time, for example Summer scrapbook pages. As I finish with a supply or tool, it gets set down with little thought. When I need it for the next page or card, I search til I find it--or decide to use an alternate--and the process starts again. When the piles start tipping over when I look for something under or in them, when I seem to not be able to find ANYTHING, or when I am moving on to a new theme, it's time to clean. (Although I have been known to have Christmas and Winter and Birthday and School supplies all in the mix And when the stuff IS put away, I often find myself looking for it where it WAS, on the counter top...

I cleaned up my space about 12 years ago. My space is 14'X18'. It's just too big a job to do now, so I am now waiting for a Scrapbook Genie.

My craftroom is a mess since Cardtober.I cleaned my desk a few times because couldn't find anything 🙃. I have to be better about cleaning up, so my dog can hang out with me when I'm in there. I know I have tooooo much, but I have a really hard time getting rid of stuff.

I always clean as I go. Not only is it easy to do as a standing scrapper, but also it's a stall tactic for time to consider choices in the next step of my layout process since I'm both creatively-challenged & indecisive!

We live in a one-bedroom apartment, so I have to clean up after I craft. (Especially since the four-legged child likes to join me, and I will absolutely not let her get hurt because of me. She usually just plays with paper scraps, though...or falls asleep.)
