I started rock painting. I wanted something cheap, portable, easy to clean up, and that wouldn't make a product that I felt guilty about adding to waste/landfill. I'll throw them in my garden.

lainey, which yarn is that please? It's Universe sock wool from Hobbii Hobbii It wasn't all that great to use tbh, it was thick and thin and the metallic kept catching on itself. I'm not sure how my socks will hold up to washing.

We haven't heard from betty in a while but she does some really gorgeous rocks. Maybe if I tag her she will share some pics. I think rock painting is very cool. I can't paint to save my life. But I wouldn't mind them in my garden for sure.

lainey - when you say a 'quick' pair of socks - how long did they take you to complete?

I am, the main body is finished, I'm taking a break from it before I do the border. I choose the large version and it is heavy, my hands were complaining so a small break is in order. I might have a number of projects in the go at once, . Sophie's universe is one, I've about 30 rows done, I am using stash yarn and it's the first Mandela type project I've picked. I'm also doing a charity blanket, happy colours and a simple stitch repeat for the moments I just want to craft without paying a lot of attention. I saw a lovely idea for mosaic crochet, two colour gradient yarn cakes used in a project. The effect was lovely. Thinking of using a shawl pattern like that.

Oo, great colour gar! Shame you are so far away, and under restrictions, you could have had a shot of my wool winder and swift. I treated myself last year and love it but I worry it feels neglected. I used to find hand winding quite relaxing until my penultimate batch which knotted easily and clung to itself like Velcro. It took every evening for a week to get 3 hanks untangled and wound.

you could have had a shot of my wool winder and swift. Sorry, again please in layman's terms? The yarn you have there is in hanks which will need to be wound into balls/cakes before you can use it. You’ve probably done that in the past yourself or sat with an older relative and helped them. An easier and quicker way is to use a contraption that looks like an umbrella without the cover, that’s the swift. The yarn sits around the spokes and it spins like a wheel to feed the yarn onto a winder that forms the balls/cakes. It’s fun and fast. These aren’t mine but will give you an idea. My swift is free standing so I’m not limited to using a surface with an overhang to clamp on. www.tribeyarns.com/products/knitpro-yarn-swift-ball-winderwww.woolwarehouse.co.uk/bobbin-box-yarn-winder-with-oscillating-spool-centreETA jeremysgirl’s link is a much better explanation!

I bought myself a swift and ball winder this year too, gillyp. I made and felted my cat bed, but it was too small for my small kitty! So I have a floppy container for dog toys. I won't knit another, as my poor old (24) cat died last week. So 2021 is feeling a lot like 2020.

I've also painted rocks for about the past year. DD14 and I took a dot/rock painting class, but in general I've moved to just painting inspirational messages on rocks and leaving them throughout the community. Very satisfying and rewarding!

I am taking a Zoom class through my knit shop based on the Building Blocks book. You create one block a month with a different pattern, and at the end of the year you have 12 blocks they teach you how to stitch together. After taking the January installment and finishing the first block, I've decided to make two blocks per month for a bigger blanket, with 24 blocks I'll probably set it up as a 4X6 block blanket. I decided on using five colors, I'll use all colors four times except the white, which I'll use eight times. During the zoom call, they had us share our colors, and everyone was pretty much doing one or two color blankets and then when I shared my colors there was an audible kind of shocked gasp from the rest of the group. Oh well - I love my colors! The knit shop recommended using Hikoo simpliworsted yarn. My first block (unblocked) is about 13 inches square.

Thanks, jeremysgirl . She was a sweet old girl who was living her best life as a senior. She was pretty deaf for a long time, but really only failed at the end. And I miss our "routine" already, gillyp. She had a treat every morning, and would come to get me at the table if she missed it when I handed a treat to the dog.
