I cut up my old costco card and got rid of it! Does that count? (Kidding!!) Well...you could look at it as pre-decluttering! If nothing new comes in then it can't become clutter! Yesterday was moving day for DD. All she did was move from 4th to 5th floor in the same building, but moving is a pain no matter how far. I held true to my word and did not pack/move anything. Did spend all day yesterday there directing movers and helping her figure out where to put things. Even with doing the minimum, I was exhausted. Convinced me that I am pretty sure I have no moves left in me. 18 and done! She has a MUCH better view (downtown Houston skyline!) and so much more light. Her old place was very dark, no matter the time of day. Although she has gained 400 sq ft, and a study, she has lost a good bit of kitchen storage. It's going to take creativity and thinking outside the box to solve that, but it can be done. Convinced her to declutter as she unpacked. So far she's gotten rid of two sets of sheets that no longer fit, a couple of pillows, 4 dining chairs (my old ones) and a small side table (also was mine). I took over a hanging magnetic chalkboard for her office/study and a small living room chair. Already my old dining room feels better. Hopefully it will encourage me to get cracking on the piles of junk in there. As soon as I line up a mover, I will be giving her a small sectional and coffee table and getting my old loveseat back. I sure do miss that thing!

I’ve purged some bed linens and towels. Plus I’ve purged some shoes 👠
I need to go through the kitchen cupboards again. Do I need prawn cocktail dishes which were a wedding gift nearly 30 years ago 🤔?
Btw neither of us like prawns/shellfish

They don't deserve precious storage space! What is it about wedding gifts? Or any type of gift really. I am sure I still have some floating around here unused and needing to be donated.

I’ve been busy listing, packing and selling American Girl items, and some kids books. Moved the big AG stuff to eBay after FB Marketplace was a bust. Have sold 37 items since Jan but still lots to do. I try to spend an hour or so listing every Friday. I’m starting to run out of small shipping boxes.
Spent yesterday cleaning out and re-arranging garage. We’re gearing up for a partial kitchen remodel and someone had cabinets that matched ours for sale. Cleared two car loads to Goodwill - sleds, Christmas deco, pool noodles, books, and other random housewares. And another two large piles to trash/recycle.
Today I decluttered 2 kitchen cabinets - old dish cloths, thermoses, glasses, vases and random items we’ve never used. Two more boxes for Goodwill. And two stools from potty training days when the kids couldn’t reach the floor on our normal toilets.
Need to reorganize the shipping boxes under the basement stairs. DH a stacked them all nicely pre-Christmas, but new additions and me trying to find small and medium boxes has led to collapsing piles.
Started organizing the eBay items - DD and I separated out the listed items, but need to further separate photographed already from to-be-photographed.

The kid that joined the military has left. Before he left, he filled three trash bags of garbage and two of donations. I have no idea where it all came from! His room is like 9'x10'.
We repainted the hallway and living room. Since we are selling the house later this year, we decided to rethink what's on the wall. Two photo collage frames were donated along with a couple of wall decorations. We got new chairs and end tables so bye bye over sized couch, ugly chair, and 1992 end table on wheels.
Now to sell the horn, downsize my fabric collection, and convince the other boy that we don't need to hold on to 15 years worth of Nerf darts and guns.
DH made drawer inserts for the two utensils drawers. We tossed old measuring spoons that were duplicates and sizes were rubbed off, donated a few other items that are still usable, and tossed a few other stuff that I have no idea why they were even in the drawer with the forks. Now if he would make inserts for the junk drawer, maybe I'll find the stupid batteries.

well.. the basement has some progress. took out a big black garbage bag today and two bags of recycling. anyone want a 1968 voters pamphlet? I recycled a lot of old school papers, work papers, cards, etc. so kept some stuff, got rid of a lot, shredded checks from 1995..and found a old tape reel from a 1980's bank computer (something my husband had at work). a couple hours a day--I'm done.
our mini cooper has been sitting in the driveway since maybe last sept. my husband wanted my kid to get it smogged and sold. my son didn't want to do it. so my husband got a new battery and we were convinced it would not pass smog.. but heck, it did!! so he will either sell it to cash for cars or give it to a friend who just lost his job. but it will not longer be in our driveway--it took up the whole driveway... and we can stop paying insurance and registration and stuff. it has 205,000 miles on it. but well maintained.

I went through a laundry basket of mostly picture frames today. Kept a handful to display on my dresser (IF DH ever hires the movers to bring it and the other heavy furniture here), took the pictures out of the rest and tossed a couple of broken frames. Put the remaining frames into donation tote. Went through the photos I removed - scanned any that weren't scanned, found 3 that need to go into the Portrait album I just 'finished' and one for DH's album. Sorted the remaining between the older two kids (they all predate my youngest).
There was a country rustic garland that my mum gave me and that we did hang at the old house but really isn't my style so that went into donations also.
All that's left is 4 newspapers (all identical) with a story about an event I ran and all of us participated in for the Girl Scout centennial. I need to figure out if I already had a copy that's been scrapped (because there should have been 5). And then distribute the others to the 3 kids - if I have a copy already, DH will get the 4th, otherwise I'll keep it.
And we took another batch of cardboard to recycling today. Progress....

and the newspapers put in ziploc bags and distributed - yay! I have a digital copy and that's sufficient for me

Went through two closets last weekend. Passed a purse onto a co-worker. Discarded a few of DH’s ratty clothing items.
Thankfully, the COVID stash has diminished enough for the storage room to be easily useable.

went back to the basement and went through 4 bins!! I now have piles to go to goodwill, the recycle bin and another big garbage bag. I found most of the stuff in two bins was my daughter's.. she will have to look at it next time she is here (maybe in a year or so).

We had a garage sale at Mum and Dad's this weekend. I filled my car up with stuff I've been decluttering over the last few months including some small furniture. The sale was a success with a lot of stuff sold. As we packed up at the end of the day we sorted into future sale (their neighbours are planning a garage sale in the next couple of months), donate, and trash. The future sale pile was by far the smallest, my Dad and sister did a run to the tip today to get rid of all the trash pile, and then my sister and I loaded up our cars with as much of the donate stuff as we could fit and have both dropped those into donation bins on our way back home.
It was a bit of double edged sword though as Mum and Dad spent most of the lockdown last year renovating the house which included a full clean out so I also came back with a couple of boxes of childhood treasures Mum found during her clean out which I now need to sort through.

Had to replace two faucets downstairs thanks to a surge of disgusting water ruined them (water authority flushing system). Took the opportunity to clear out under both sinks and got rid of lots of cleaning products that have been here from prior owners or moved from our last place and haven’t been used since. Also brought down the hand towel selection by half. MIL likes to buy us holiday hand towels and it was a little ridiculous how many we have.
Found out my oldest niece is moving into her own place very soon so now I have somewhere to give the household items.

We are going to get serious about buying a townhouse soon, so once I recover from having our grandson for a month, I am going to hit it hard again. I don't have a lot, but really, do I need 6 or more cake plates?

A gal messaged me the other day and bought all remaining items on my FB marketplace ad--sold the rest of the SB/stamping items I wanted to get rid of! Super happy about that, as I had moved the box into garage, debating where to donate to, and thought the ad had expired. So, YAY!

Last weekend I was able to foist off on give a rattan shelf stand to DD to use in her bathroom. We purchased it 20 years ago in Indonesia and it is still in great shape, but was taking up space. It fit her space (and towels) perfectly. On Sunday the movers took the big sectional and coffee table to her apartment and in return brought back my old sofa that I really love. Both sofas work better in their new homes and everyone is happy! Slowly her new apartment is shaping up, and I'm gaining more space! This past week my decluttering was cut short due to having to leave town for the funeral of a long time friend. Since I needed to clear out the guest room so the dog sitter/house sitter had a bed, I moved the remaining eBay stuff to the old dining room. Quite a few small things went into the donation bag. I also added a 20" Hartman rolling suitcase. It was in great shape still, but I upgraded my carry on in 2019 and just have way too much luggage. Still have a few more to get rid of but will have to convince DH on those. This coming week we plan to finish getting rid of the stuff behind the garage - a wheelbarrow, some tomato cages, a giant decorative clay pot and a pair of old plant stands. How is everyone doing with their decluttering now?

Great job everyone!
decluttering is slowing down here - while I'm sure there are still things to get rid of (aren't there always?) it's more of a one thing at a time pace right now.
I finished a book and added it to the donation pile - it was good but a one-time read. Tossed the dish drainer from the old house (but will be buying a new one for this house - dishwasher is on the fritz - it's 20 years old and might need replacing but that's not a priority - the old house didn't have one so I'm well accustomed to hand-washing dishes.).
There's some organising still needed in my craft room but I'm waiting on DH to assemble the rest of my cube units - he's been busy so that's been on hold.
Hoping we can do another trailer load tomorrow but DH has to go into work for a bit and I need to grocery shop so...might not happen.

I dropped off a bag of donations on Friday afternoon but still have two boxes of childhood treasures to sort through. The next few weeks will be busy so I'm kind of tempted to just shove the boxes in a cupboard and let future me deal with them, but for now they're neatly stacked in a less used room.

I think you are my people. I have to fly up to Michigan from Texas to help my parents in their 70s declutter and stage their condo for sale. They are joining me here in Texas so they are selling their place and moving here then looking for a new place to live. I have 2 weeks (although the airlines have made it easier to change a ticket) to help them and get it ready. They have started on their own by getting rid of furniture that they don't need. Try explaining FB Marketplace and how to get a Venmo account to a 73 year old over the phone. Not so easy. I contacted a friend who is a realtor and she did a walk through last weekend and came back today to pick up the entire guest bedroom set (leaving the bed and a dresser for me to use when I'm there). A neighbor's son wants their sectional but will take it later so they have something to sit on. I'm going they are going through basement stuff before I get there. They live about half a mile from a Salvation Army so that will be so easy to drop stuff off. They are slowly getting things done. Then they'll love with us until they find a place.
As for my house, I'm thinking of finally getting rid of my work pants that don't fit and I'm retired now so I don't wear them. I went through my sock drawer last week and am donating half of what's was in there. I guess I should bite the bullet on the pants and get rid of them.

I went through my closet this week and tossed 4 pair of athletic shoes. I also tossed some old jackets and donated a bag of clothes that are too large.
I hope to find time to empty all the closets of sheets and blankets. I'll look at what I have all in one place and decide what can go.

I am getting ready for my daughter to come for a visit--and I took out a bunch of winter clothes from my drawers and piled them in a stack in the closet so they will be handy to move to the storage area for the summer. I came across a LOT of pairs of jeans--and I was wondering just how many pair of jeans one person needs!! I have enough for sure! I haven't counted them, but I'm going to. I guess I should add that I do washing usually two days a week--sometimes more. I have BLUE jeans, WHITE jeans, RED jeans, TAN jeans, faded Jeans, and another color of blue. (several pair in each!) I had no idea I had that many!!

Spent the last two weekends re-arranging 2 rooms, steam cleaning carpet. All the eBay stuff is in my bedroom for the moment.
Yesterday we shifted some things on bookcases around. Took all the board games out and purged about 40%, mostly the big bulky ones and weird pop culture ones that are only fun to play once because the rules and setup are ridiculously involved.
Brought all the scrapbooks, photo albums and heritage photos/genealogy into one place - fits perfectly where the games were except a bunch of 12x12s I need to decide if I want to fill.
Also stacked all the memorabilia storage into the corner of my soon to be craft room - it’s way too much. 3 Rubbermaid bins, 2 under bed bins, 8 “pretty” storage boxes and 5 Sterlite drawers. Insanity.

I need the inspiration found on this thread!! We desperately need to clean our garage, closets, dressers, and my craft room. The garage has boxes that haven't been opened since 2 houses ago, lol!! (for some reason my DH thinks he might want to re=learn calculus from college... really?!?) I am also very seriously evaluating whether I want to continue scrapbooking, or at least pare down my collection of supplies / materials. I will never in my whole life use all of the supplies that I have purchased over the past 25 years...
Now, I need to find time to do it-- and figure out how to use Facebook Marketplace, lol!! (yeah, I'm a bit behind in the technology, lol)
