crimsoncat05 - Welcome! Glad to have you with us. Can't wait to see the progress you make once you get going. Just remember - baby steps! Even tossing/donating a couple of items at a time adds up over time. Sometimes you'll see lots of progress, other times it's maintenance.

This week I tossed my old crockpot. Do I really need two? Nope.

I just went through a stuffed expandable file of old newsletters that my mum had saved. I pulled one to scan an obituary from (my godmother who I never actually met) and tossed the rest.

Oh that’s me!! Sorry. 🤦🏼♀️ I started with my laundry/mud room because it was small. Did our closet and then got hit with some new crazy food restrictions so that got my energy. But, this afternoon at my DD’s (12) request we are going through her whole room and “getting rid of all the babyish toys”. I’m steeling myself for a emotional afternoon of her being done with old favorites.

DD was well into her 20s before I was able to part with many of her toys and things, including old school papers! Hope it isn't too emotional for you.

I worked on my garage and got half of it turned into a gym. I still need to go through the shelves and purge crap, but I'm going to wait until the community garage sale...what doesn't sell will immediately be taken to Goodwill. I still need to empty my daughter's bedroom, but she's not moving back home for over a year, so I have time. I have a really hard time getting rid of things that I think I can sell. I need to just let it go.

That's great that you were able to set up a gym in your garage. It must be attached to your house? Or in a cooler climate? Good luck with getting the rest of your goals accomplished!

Hot as balls here, but I get up at 4 am on weekdays to work out, so it's usually in the 60s the hottest time of the year when I'm working out. My garage is attached to the house, so that makes it easier. I did install a big wall fan so I can have a breeze while I work out. I'm hoping to have my house decluttered by the time my daughter moves back home in August of 2022. I think that's a do-able goal.

(((((Hugs))) it's hard when they are ready to let go of things you're not quite ready for I worked on my garage and got half of it turned into a gym we're planning on doing this in the next year or so - I would love to see pictures. We have an attached garage also and I'm looking at a big fan as well - esp. since I do NOT get up at 4am for anything let alone working out. I'm hoping to have my house decluttered by the time my daughter moves back home in August of 2022. I think that's a do-able goal. A very do-able goal! Keep us posted on progress. I do find decluttering requires regular maintenance but it is easier once the first round or so is done

My next project is going through an overstuffed recipe organiser that was my mum's - I want to scan some of the recipes but I think there's also a lot of junk mixed in as well.

I've been working on purging clothes. I decided if I don't love it, it's not comfortable, or it's 10 years old it's gone. I have a bag filled and am working on a box.

I did that back in March and it was so freeing! Everything in my closet is now something I will wear. It also enabled me to see where the gaps in my wardrobe were. When I opened the wardrobe with dresses, DD's first comment was that I did not need anymore blue/white dresses! Of course, what did I order last week? A blue dress! In my defense it has embroidery in yellow, orange and pinks.

I see the thread and think no one wants to hear about my decluttering and packing but I guess that’s the point of the thread! Thanks for the tag ❤️😂 We have to be all moved out by the end of the month so we are coming up on it. I have decluttered quite a bit and have come to the realization that I need a moving sale so we will have one after everything gets moved to the rental house (while we build the new house) and then anything left gets taken to donate and anything not accepted there will head to the dump. The girls are around so I’ve been able to make progress with their old things like books and DVDs to see what they want to do - keep, toss...I have both their old rooms closets empty and the laundry room decluttered and emptied as well.

I've done this before but it could use another round It also enabled me to see where the gaps in my wardrobe were I need to figure out a wardrobe plan - I want to start sewing more of my own clothes, I'm tired of things not fitting well (I'm tall and fat...manufacturers seem to think tall=slender and fat=short) - but that means I need to know WHAT I need. I see the thread and think no one wants to hear about my decluttering and packing but I guess that’s the point of the thread! YES that's exactly the point - and often one of us will post what they're decluttering and someone else will decide to declutter area also. Sounds like you're making excellent progress

so back to the basement.. had a box of extra kitchen stuff. brought up stairs to throw through dishwasher and will go out the door to goodwill.
and I just realized that the 4 drawer filing cabinet I had downstairs is empty.. so can put that on the sidewalk. I am organizing for a good will run maybe friday. tomorrow dh and I are looking at new bookcases for the "study". I have cheap bookcases I picked up second hand and have two with shelves broken. I want some grown up ones that will make me organize and go through my book stash (and help reorganize my photo albums.. cause that where they are. that room has bookcases, a china cabinet and cleaning supplies and anything else people want to stash up stairs. ie not the basement so it looks like a wreck most the time and that is where our downstairs bath is. I want to reorganize and get some stuff moved to my extra room upstairs (that also is a wreck). I need to find a place for cleaning supplies. my house is small and old and doesn't have things like pantries or cleaning supply closets. then I will work on dh to get rid of bin of sailing books that is in living room (we sold the boat). I also have two bins that are leaving in 3 weeks.. to go to a thrift store near our condo that takes sports stuff.. progress!!

Thanks for the tag! I've been working a lot the past few months, so my decluttering hasn't been in high gear. We're about to start a kitchen and master bath reno, so I've been more taking stock and figuring out how I want to organize things. I was in a panic earlier in the year, to the point of complete indecision. Now that I've met with the designer a few times, it's going much more smoothly.
I'm sure I'll be popping in here more often as I empty out the rooms. I go through it every now and then, but we're gutting the rooms and changing the layouts. EVERYTHING will be moving into new homes.

My next project is going through an overstuffed recipe organiser that was my mum's - I want to scan some of the recipes but I think there's also a lot of junk mixed in as well. I've gone through it - ditched the junk, put the loose recipes in page protectors, found the two small cake books I remember picking birthday cakes from as a child (they had how to cut and ice cakes in different fun shapes), and put it back on the shelf until I figure out the next step. I posted on the Scrapbooking board but I'll ask here also - there's a combination of clippings, recipe cards, handwritten recipes...most were my mum's, several that were granny's that she wrote down and mailed to mum, some are from friends and cousins of mums. I would like to preserve them (at least the handwritten recipes and cards) and annotate them with who they were from and so on - any memories I have of them. Looking for ideas on how best to do that - I know I need to scan them.

Within the past month 2 of our kids (college age) have moved home for the summer along with their stuff. Our front door entry has a lot more shoes scattered around now LOL. I have managed to clean out the storage room in the garage and did another purge & reorganization of my bedroom closet. I need to find time to drop off a fair amount for donation. I also have a good size pile of stuff for the dump.

I want to start sewing more of my own clothes, I'm tired of things not fitting well (I'm tall and fat...manufacturers seem to think tall=slender and fat=short) - but that means I need to know WHAT I need. This is the point I've gotten to as well. Used to sew for myself quite a bit, but got away from it over the years. I'm a short chubby bunny who is very long waisted (which equals short legs). Petite pants are hard to find, and currently they all seem to have stretch in them. I survived the 70's and do not want to wear stretch pants! Absolutely love some of the dresses out there now, but the waistline is always 2" too high - even on shirt waist dresses! They are making them that way because it uses less fabric (ie cheaper). Definitely clear out your wardrobe - and be ruthless! Once you have all that out of the way, hang everything by type/color. Immediately it will be apparent what you have enough/too much of and what you need to get. We're about to start a kitchen and master bath reno, so I've been more taking stock and figuring out how I want to organize things. No better way to jump start an organization project than by ripping out chunks of your house and having to move it all! BTDT! Good luck! Would love it if you share photos one you get going on the project.

Thanks for the tag. Work, dealing with DS and my health have been taking up all my time. I’ve avoided the thread because it was making me frustrated that I haven’t been able to make much progress on anything.
Last day of teaching for me is next Thursday so I’m hoping to finally make some progress. Unfortunately DS’s last day of school is the same. I hate that I will have no days where I will have large chunk of time to dedicate to getting anything done. I really want to have a garage sale to get rid of some larger big ticket items but with no one to keep an eye on DS for more than 2 hours at a time I don’t see how it can happen.
I did finally just cut the straps on our old car seats and tossed them. Bigger kid meant bigger bike which meant needing more garage space so out they went.
DH is in the process of replacing our deck. It had rotted through in multiple places so it had to be done. This resulted in a large dumpster being rented for the demo. DH managed to get a bunch of other stuff left from the previous home owners in their too including 2 mattress sets that were in the basement.
Crossing my fingers for a productive summer but right now I don’t feel much hope.

Hang in there, natscraps. I often do just a few minutes here and there. The bonus to small steps is the garbage fits in the trash can every week. It's amazing how good just cleaning out a single drawer feels.

Thanks for checking on me!! I have not done nearly as much as I planned to this year. I was recovering from my broken back earlier this year, and then had surgery 3 weeks ago to remove a benign mass they discovered when I broke my back. I went for my follow up appointment yesterday, and was told to take it easy for another 3 weeks.
I get summer Fridays off in June and July, and while I have plans for a few of those dates, I will probably try to spend some of them purging stuff and get organized.

pulled everything out of my desk drawer this morning - okay it was because I couldn't find my postage stamps - but I went through it all and shredded, tossed, and pulled some stuff I need to take care of (and am working on that now). And I found the postage stamps - bonus

so took my dh out shopping for replacing the super cheap and falling apart bookcases. for my study. we went to local furniture store.. they had some on sale. we liked them, but went down to pottery barn to see if we liked their bookcases more. they did not have any to see in the big store. so dh and I went to lunch and decided to buy for the local furniture store. so now I have til may 26 to empty all bookcases, take them to dump, get rid of cedar chest, move everything to back of living room and clean to be ready to have bookcases moved in. big job, but I am willing and he will help me!! my dh wanted to be sure that I was going to sort through what I have and winnow down. this also includes all my scrapping supplies, all my albums but this area has been an eyesore. I usually don't get my dh involved in cleaning up and decluttering as he is in the "throw away everything" school and I am not. this is all emotional decluttering if nothing else.
