we managed to get one (partial) trailer load from the old house to the new - tools mostly for the new garage. Do you have an organization system set up for him to hopefully keep things organized and prevent a recurrence? Spent about an hour yesterday organizing my sewing room and putting things away from earlier projects. I need to do some serious work in here this week and cannot create in a mess. I added a bag of zippers taken from an old jacket to the donation box, and pulled 2 pieces of fabric that I think a friend might enjoy. I also reframed an old print belonging to DD. The glass in the frame broke several years ago and it was just stacked in the pile of artwork. Picked up a nice frame from IKEA ( Silverhöjden) and used it for the print and old mat. Looks great, took less than 10 minutes and cost just $13! DD will pick it up this week. One small project done, one more thing leaving the house! The old frame (minus broken glass) is in the donation box.

Do you have an organization system set up for him to hopefully keep things organized and prevent a recurrence? I wish - DH doesn't desire my assistance in organising things. The best I can do is he has assigned spaces for his stuff where I can shut the door and not look at it (the bonus room, the new garage (2 door, double deep - he does plan to keep 4 of the current 6 vehicles* in there so hopefully that'll help), his attic space (we have TWO walk-in attics). Anything he leaves in the common area, I pick up and put on his desk. He IS going through his boxes and finding actual homes for stuff or boxing it up like with like and storing in the attic. It's just a long, slow process because there's 20+ years of accumulation. *we have one car that runs, one that is currently at the garage and will run when we get it back, a truck that won't start, an 81 Mustang 'project', plus DD's truck (not running), and DS's truck (also not running). DD's will leave in December/January when she moves out and hopefully will be running by then but DS plans to tow it behind the Uhaul. DS's truck is staying until he does repairs on his garage. WAY too many vehicles given DH is our only driver (neither I nor DD21 drive)

**GypsyGirl** - well done reframing the print - it's nice to tick something off the list. Sounds like you made good progress in the sewing room

I got DH to finish purging things from his John Deere collection. He has nice, miniature tractors on display, plus some books. You know how it is - someone finds out you collect something and everyone gives you stuff. He is donating all the coffee cups, hats, a nightlight, and some pictures. Yay! Yay! And now he will probably enjoy his collection more because it is streamlined, and these are his favorite items.

OMG I couldn't take it any longer. I'm working on defrosting our upright freezer in the laundry room. Of course I'm making a mess while trying to clean a mess. The end result will be worth it. this is on my list for fall weather. 95 degrees is no time to pull stuff out of the freezer

Not a BIG deal, but I threw out some old corroded batteries and a rechargeable flashlight that doesn't charge anymore. I also threw out a bunch of old papers. Why did I save them to begin with? Got rid of a bag full of rags, some hand towels, and three blankets. The blankets and hand towels went in the "donate" pile in the garage.

The rescued foosball table is out of the garage and I've delivered and donated to the Youth Center.
Triple score of good feelings. 1. Rescued for landfill 2. Now out of my garage, space! 3. Donated to a youth center where fun will be had with it. (Bonus points!)

Today's goal....paperwork. Somewhere I've misplaced our car lease and need to figure out where it went so we can get plates.
I keep too much paperwork and procrastinate in filing, so this will be an all day job.

I keep too much paperwork and procrastinate in filing, so this will be an all day job. I feel this in my soul. I have an enormous, 5" 3 ring binder filled with important paperwork. It's just too much, and some is dated, with both old & new versions included. But the thought of going through it is so overwhelming. But... The number of times that I have been able to correct a situation that was flubbed up by a secretary/pharmacist/ etc by digging out my paperwork has been too many to count. And so I keep too much. And sometimes it is "filed" in a big reusable bag in my room for awhile, before eventually making its way to the binder. Gah.

I’ve been in a funk lately. Being overwhelmed and in a body that doesn’t want to cooperate is wearing on me. Summer break is almost over for me and I feel like I’ve gotten nowhere on this house. DH and DS make it near impossible. Thanks for letting me vent. I did finally get three large trash bags of my clothes to the resale store that benefits our battered women shelter this weekend. I’m making small bits of progress on my scrap room/office. I finally found all the bills and put them on autopay. But I need some progress that I can physically see and it stay that way. Ugh!

I’m sorry you’re going through this, it’s really rough isn’t it? I can’t help with the DH and DS, but there are a few tricks I use to make (slow) progress when I’m depressed and/or having a fibro flare or back issues. - Every time I get up to use the restroom I spend 5-15 minutes doing something I can’t do sitting down. Now, I drink a lot of water so that is a lot of time in one day, just not at one sitting. Right now I’m manic so I just choose whatever floats my boat at the moment. But if you chose one area, say a shelf, I bet you’d see a lot of progress by the end of the day.
- Also, I never go anywhere in the house without looking around to see if something can go with me. It’s just ingrained in my head and keeps the day to day clutter at bay.
- Can you remove a drawer (or have your family help with big ones) and sit at a table to work on it while watching TV or listening to music? If not, you could empty a drawer (or shelf or whatever) into a box or laundry basket and do the same thing. Then before you put things away clean the space. Whatever doesn’t go back in the drawer is now in a container you can use to walk around the house and put things away.
- When things are at their worst but I’m still motivated to do something I will take a photo of the area I want to work on and decide what I want to keep and what I want to get rid of, how to reorganize the space, what belongs in other areas of the house. That way, when I am able to physically get to it it’s just a matter of carrying out the decisions I already made and it goes much faster.
I hope one of these helps and hope you’re doing better soon.

Thanks for the suggestions. Fibro flare is one of the many problems. Trying to do as much as I can when I get up for the bathroom is one of my current strategies. A lot of the issue is just having time. DS is 6 and requires a lot of attention. We've tried timers, rewards, enlisting his help, setting him up with a novel activity next to me, etc but he still craves constant physical attention. We even thought about putting him in day care full time this summer just so I can get a few extra things done. He's in half day play camp every other week, but that time gets quickly filled with work work, drs appts, errands, and a little self care. Just stretched thin right now.

tossed a couple of dozen photos - when I printed photos for the scrapbook I'm currently working on, I apparently just printed ALL the photos so after I scrap the ones I want to, the rest are getting tossed (I still have digital copies but don't need to hold on to the printed ones that didn't make the cut)

I went through my important papers binder, section by section.
Tossed a ton of non relevant, non-sensitive papers. School notices, book lists, supply lists... All dated and will be replaced with the new school year.
I pulled very old payment receipts, and put aside for shredding.
I organized each person's section better, and putting our newest vax records in place.
There's not a huge change in volume, but I feel confident that I can locate everything important.

I went through my "files" that are in a kitchen bookcase.. found some papers I needed --I knew where they were--but also sent out two bags of recycling.
with my husband stuck on the couch with his broken leg, I'm not too motivated. I am trying to get a window company to call me back--stuff all over til I get that done with some painting. I will give them one more try.
I did take a picture in today to get framed (print of SF skyline) and picked up 3 framed pictures. now I just need to get them up on the wall. I have been slowly getting a picture framed every month or every other month so that the prints are taken care of properly. one of my husband's best friends is an artist and we have a lot a lot of his work. I love it and so do the framers... some of these have been sitting around unframed since the 1970's.

We had to move my mom to an assisted living apartment the end of Dec. which entailed cleaning out her 2 bedroom townhome and getting it sold. As of yesterday we had to move mom into the adjacent nursing home. She has a private room so is able to have quite a few belongings. Still we now have her apartment to get cleaned out as soon as we can. It's just mentally and physically exhausting to be honest. I know none of this is mom's fault, but she has really dominated my life for the past 8 months and I'm tired. It helps that my sister and I were pretty brutal when we cleaned out the townhome in December. That said I've already mentally decided mom's extra clothing will just be tossed. She didn't own fancy clothes or super new stuff. I will probably save the little bit of kitchen stuff for my DS who will likely live in a college apartment next year. I'd also like to keep her small dining room table for DS, but the rest of the furniture needs to be sold or donated. I have a college graduate who is just starting a new/real job and will be moving into a grown up apartment in 2 weeks that has all his college apartment stuff here at home and another child going back to college next month so his dorm room stuff has been here all summer. And now I have to deal with more of my mom's stuff. I am so ready to get my house back. I hate clutter and although it's always been temporary it's seriously been driving me crazy.

I've gone through mine several times since moving to my son's home, and each time I find more to get rid of!! It's amazing!
I'm feeling "down" lately, so haven't really done much of anything. I essentially live in 2 rooms+bathroom here--(a MIL suite) so you'd think I'd be super organized!! But I'm not! Maybe "someday." Two of my girls are coming for a visit in September and we're going to work on some stuff in the barn. My older daughter wants to organize my photos and make sure they have names and approximate dates on them. I hope I still remember who everybody is!!
