In what might be my scrapbook highlight of 2020 I actually completed a full year of monthly project life. šš¼ For the year I kept my kits together even after the month, just in case I wanted to find something and use it. (All of a given month together. SC and Elles studio in one pouch. ) Now that 2020 is done I want to break down the kits to make room for 2021 kits. I have two of these coming for my cart: www.scrapbook.com/store/sbc-storage-5294.html?t2=storage+and+organization&t12-13=scrapbook+comI was thinking cards by month. Seems like SC kits have similar colors and themes each year in the same month. Pulling out some themed ones - vacation, food, sports, etc. And putting those separately. How do you sort your cards and embellishments? Any great ideas?

This might not be a popular idea, but I would start by separating the cards you think you might use "as is" from cards you're pretty sure you won't use. Set them aside to alter with inks or stickers or what have you (or to give away.)
Good for you for getting organized. You're starting off the new year awesome!

I actually like this idea, I have so many cards and I know there are so many that I won't ever use. I have mine sorted by color right now but need to do a big reorganization and purge.

msupea Good for you! I have some items sorted by themes, others by color so when I'm finished with a kit that's where they'll go depending on what they are.

I did some searching in the forum and I think Iām going to sort by type for most embellishments and stickers and have some themes (Christmas, travel, etc)
Same for my stamps.
Now I need my organizing bins to arrive on time.

I actually just organized my 3x4 and 4x6 cards recently. I did just what quinmm14 said, pulled out obviously themed stuff, then organized the rest by color. In case you like videos, here is the one I made about it: youtu.be/nYVwF3i4xmc

I sort my cards by manufacturer and then collection/month because I find that easier than trying to make a decision about whether something is 'journalling' or 'vacation' when it falls into both categories - for example. I think trying to organise cards in that way would set my anxiety on fire as there are always going to be cards that fall into multiple categories.
With the way I store them, I can pull the remaining cards from a specific collection and work with them together in the first instance, and then mix in other cards if I need something else. It helps with killing a kit too.

I sort all my 3x4 and 4x6 cards very broadly and probably in a way that will make some people a little twitchy I pull out anything that is very obviously themed for which I have a theme drawer (travel, Christmas, birthday), anything else is divided into journaling or other. Journaling cards go into a drawer that holds all my journaling supplies, so things like labels and tabs, while everything else gets put into a drawer that holds all my PL cards. I don't sort them in any other way, and when I want a card I just pull out a pile and flip through them until I find something that works. I've never been the type of person who uses a kit as a kit, I've always seen it as a group of supplies to be used in conjunction with the rest of my stash, so it makes sense to me to mix everything up, but I can totally understand how it might be beneficial to keep all the summer themed kits together to make it easier to create summer pages.
