I took leave of my senses and used by Stampin' Up circle punch to punch out acetate and now it won't punch a full circle. I've tried punching aluminum foil and wax paper multiple times but it just won't punch out fully. I suppose I could contact the company but I don't think they'll replace it because I tried to punch something not very "punchable". Have any of you been successful sharpening a punch to get it to work again?

I have taken apart a punch put it back together. I saw a video on YouTube. It might have been misaligned and this helped. Other than that, ugh.

I have always used foil. In fact, I have one now that needs it done. Also, acetate does not punch well in general. Ask me how I know.

I tried the foil on them and that didn't work. Tried the soda can and three of them punch perfectly again. One has an issue with the way it releases unbalanced so I have to straighten it out and then it works well.

You are absolutely right, if you don't contact the company they will certainly not replace your punch, nor send you a discount coupon or any other satisfaction. They will also never know there was a problem.

It'll depend on how badly you damaged the cutting edge. If the edge is curled over, it'll need actual resharpening which I've never heard of being done on a punch. Theoretically possible, but potentially impractical in practice, especially if the edge of the punch no longer aligns with the top plate. A tight match between these two pieces is what enables the cutting action, otherwise the paper will tear.
If the edge is simply dulled then abrading it by punching foil or metal might help, but it won't ever be as sharp as it was originally.
edit: then, not than

Just be really careful with the aluminum can once you cut it open.
I speak from experience...

I remember seeing a YouTuber punch out shapes from pop cans years ago and then used inks to color them. They were gorgeous. But, yes, could be a bit dangerous for the fingers.

If sharpening is the problem you can try Ultra fine grit sand paper.

This is my weekend project. I'll force my husband to drink a soda (I don't drink carbonated beverages anymore) so I can try and punch the can. Then, if that doesn't work I'll take it apart. I'm oddly excited to take it apart so that may happen first.
Thanks everyone!
