I was really excited about finally seeing the new collections from American Crafts but I was pretty disappointed. I mentioned in another thread that there was a sameness about the collections. This year I am trying not to be so impulsive with my purchases since I recently purged old product from my stash. My impression:
Paige Evans - I lean towards pastels so will only purchase a few of the papers from this one. Usually I’ll buy her entire collection but not this time Maggie Holmes - a hard pass for me as it usually is. Not my aesthetic Jen Hadfield - a pass this time Amy Tangerine- it’s been a long time since I like any of her collections but I ordered some of the floral papers. They are quite pretty! Vicki Boutin - I like her lines for the mixed media products especially the stencils and stamps. I only ordered the gel crayons and watercolors. The stencils and stamps look like other VB s/s I have in my stash Heidi Swapp - really soft palette but nothing is a must have Obed Marshall - nice to see a new designer but no must have item
So, your thoughts please.

Having trouble getting a good look at them.
The Jen Hadfield Dance it Out paper is really fun but I can’t seem to link it.

The Obed Marshall line is super cute but nothing I can use right now. I'll add it to my wish list because I think I'll be able to use some of the stuff in the future. Heidi Swapp - always a nope for me. Not my aesthetic. Vicki Boutin - not my aesthetic either but I'm not hating it. Amy Tangerine - I really like this one. She's usually not my style either but her latest lines I've really liked. Jen Hadfield - I like this one too. I could see myself using some of these for sure. Maggie Holmes - nope. Do not like it. Paige Evans - I went in skeptical because I'm normally not a fan of all the pastels she uses but this line I like! Adding to my wishlist so I don't forget about it.

Maybe I’m just tired and cranky, but there is nothing in any of these collections that excites me at all.

If I didn’t know better, I would think the VB is AT. None the aesthetics of any of the designers is new or groundbreaking. They could just slightly change color ways of existing collections. I generally like the bright colored AT releases, however, I’m over all the recycled icons from days gone by.

I just mentioned on the DL thread, I like them but, except for the Vicki Boutin line, I'm not rushing out to buy them. I'm wondering whether they'll end up at JoAnn where I can buy them for a fraction of the price. I'm happy to wait and take that risk even if it means I'll miss out on them altogether.

Nothing from AC is speaking to me, but very few of the new releases from any designer are speaking to me. I think It's all the same thing over and over again... oh well, it's not like I don't own enough paper to scrap for the rest of my life already.

I agree with many that nothing in these collections is groundbreaking and absolutely must haves, especially for us with big stashes. I like the bright colors but they are not easy to use in big dosages. I am putting my cart together for preorder and it’s a few pieces here and there. I won’t be getting the entire collection from any of the AC or other collections revealed so far. I heard some predictions about collections being safe this year and I think AC went safe with their hit designers and signature looks. Maggie Holmes collection to me is a copy of her Bloom collection which I loved and used a lot of it but will be passing on it this time.

I really like the Heidi Swapp Carefree. I’ll probably pick up some of that. The others are a pass from me.

Also, where is Crate Paper? I think Maggie Holmes’ collection is directly with AC as Paige Evans collections are not with Pink Paislee anymore.

Welcome to the new designer! Like happyscrappydo , I noticed AC has made its existing designers into brand names (which makes dropping Shimelle even more puzzling). ...there is nothing in any of these collections that excites me at all. Agreed. In fact, the only AC products I purchase are at Tuesday Morning - Bazzill cardstock packs & an occasional tool. Paper collections from AC brands aren't my style (ie They are too vintage, floral, pastel, traditionally feminine, overly themed, odd icons, etc.), stamps are acrylic (not photopolymer), & many embellishments aren't labeled as acid free/archival &/or are advertised as stickers but don't stick! Wishing for the addition of a new brand with a white-based, modern, & clean aesthetic...

Maybe I’m just tired and cranky, but there is nothing in any of these collections that excites me at all. Me either and I am neither tired nor cranky. They just are very similar to a lot of things I already have or they are too pink and girly for my taste. I think you have crafted for a while, things tend to blend into each other. For me, finding a line that matches something I am going to work on really helps my excitement. I have 2002-2008 to finish and that is when my boys were in elementary school/jr high, so papers I am looking for a much different than what I might look for now.

American Crafts is usually not my style, I'm more of a Echo Park and Simple Stories fan. For the same reason people either love or hate both companies, I do like the consistency of colors with these two companies. It would be nice if they were a bit less themed at least have B sides more usable. Kudos to American Crafts for doing a line with Spanish words and stamps. A big giant no on the embellishments organizer.

Do you think maybe AC thought Obed's style was too similar to Shimelle's so they chose him in order to be more diverse? Your guess is better than mine! My first thought upon hearing about the elimination of the Shimelle brand, considering its popularity on this board, was that shipping & other issues caused by the pandemic made it difficult to get product samples to her overseas, but the addition of this new brand, whose namesake is based in Spain, refutes my theory.

I think I like the Paige Evans Wonders 6x8 pad but I am a cardmaker. Also, that rainbow. It's been everywhere in the last year, so at this point, it just feels like AC is playing catch up.

Maybe I’m just tired and cranky, but there is nothing in any of these collections that excites me at all. I’m especially cranky today but really wanted to be cheered up by some new releases. The closest I came to that was liking the Maggie Holmes color scheme, but I don’t like the patterns.

The new collections are 'just ok'. If they were on sale for 40% off or more, I might buy some of the pieces. But otherwise, I will pass.

There is a lot of nude, peachy, coraly pink tones in those lines and that is a colour area that I don't work well with, I LOVE pink but just not those tones. There is some lines that I like more tham others but I do feel like its all a bit same same that we have been seeing from them for a few years now. I used to love AC products but these days they have a few looks and nothing much outside of that. Vicki Boutin is by far the most different and stand out of the lines that they have, it is also nice to see a new designer but a few more would be nice. I am still dirty that we didn't get the Damask Love lines in Australia and she doesnt appear to have done any physical release with them. I managed to get a few pieces from an online seller that gets odd bits and pieces from the US but I have no idea why I never saw those lines over here.

Nothing I will buy BUT two things I’m excited to see- word phrases in Spanish and graphics of people in shades of brown! Small steps, but we’ve been asking for more racial and ethnic diversity in products and AC should be recognized for listening.

I normally don’t like AT, but that is the only line that has anything I am remotely interested in. I like about 5 of the papers, but that is it. Completely underwhelmed.

Thanks, Matt at ACOT for displaying that Jen Hadfield paper. It looks like a fun one to use for pages about & cards for my dgd's. And i also like the orange/peach in this line along with the navy. I love the happy colours in the VB line. There are so many playful ways to use this. Pretty sure I will get at least some of these papers, and I MUST get that sticker book! Can't wait to see what KikiPea does with pages layering all those flowers. I love the yellows and those foiled dots in the Obed Marshall line.
