.
This is our baby girl at 6 weeks. She’s coming to us at the end of next week. I’d love help with a name. Our choices so far are:
Penny Zoey Ginny )
We’re also open to suggestions. This is our first puppy so I apologize in advance for all of the questions I might ask like - do I wake her to pee if she’s sleeping at night or if she cries in her crate at night how do i know if she’s lonely or needs to pee. See, many questions.
I appreciate your input on the name!
Hopefully if you click the link you see the pic. How can I not figure out how to post it 🤪.
Paige.
ETA:
So further down the post we seem to have settled on Ginny. And today I posted this at the end of the thread :
Ugh. I’m having second thoughts and I made dd cry. I told her I’m not sure I like Ginny. I might prefer Penny.
I feel like I’ve told people and they say ‘what? Jenny?’ Is Ginny a mistake?
She’s coming on the weekend so I should make a decision at some point. I’m not sure seeing her will help.
It was easier coming up with kids names because I didn’t have my kids’ opinions in the mix.

Well, she is just adorable. With brand new puppies, we did wake up and take out at first. Generally, the howling will wake you up. You guys are going to have so much fun. Practice saying NO Penny, NO Zoey, and NO Ginny as you will be repeating this quite a bit. It's so worth it to push through the first year. Your DDs will always remember their childhood dog.

Awww she is adorable! I think she looks like a Zoey.
When my dogs were babies, we would wake them to potty right before we went to bed, with the hopes they would sleep longer. She will cry at night, its a given for the first bit. We always included a stuffed 'lovey' in the crate when we put our babies in there to keep them company. We also would put a big blanket over the top of their crate so they couldn't see us if we came in their room. They knew when they went in the crate and the blanket was over it (making it dark) then it was sleepy time.

Lemme see if I can add it in for you. I like Zoey the best out of your list for her.

Leerburg.com is not just for working breeds. Tons of free info. And their streaming video on your puppy 8 weeks to 8 months might be worth the $$. She looks like a Butterscotch or just Butter to me.

Thank you! Why could I not do that. I’m so frustrated. I'm not sure. It looks like you started it correctly but maybe got an extra segment pasted. On your second post, you've got it coded as: {img src="live.staticflickr.com/65535/50850921427_834cc80640_w.jpg" src="E25AE602-021A-4CF7-8044-012DF4B2F320 by Paige81, on Flickr" alt=" " }What I entered is: {img _src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50850921427_834cc80640_w.jpg" _alt=" " } (Except that I added the red underscore and changed brackets so it would not change to image.) I don't know if your omission of https:// made a difference, and I don't know where all the info for the "src" in yours is from... sometimes it can get messed up if you're trying to post from within your own photo account. Maybe yivit can explain for us (at least, I get the sense she does computer programming, apologies if that's incorrect!)

Penny is a sweet name and her middle name can be Lane. Then she'd have a theme song.

Our command is “leave it”. IMO, it’s the most important skill a dog can know. It works for biting, chewing on a leash, a dropped pill or food item, and general puppy nonsense. We use the Monks of New Skete method. The Art of Raising a Puppy is great. There is also a video. I would take the puppy out when the last person goes to bed and only get up in the night if the puppy cries. If so, the puppy goes out, does their business, then back in the crate. Just like a baby in the night. No feeding or playing at all. Sleep with a blanket until the puppy comes home. Then your scent will be on it. It may not work the first night, but it helps comfort. Be careful of hanging a blanket over the crate. Our first dog would pull the blanket into the crate and chew it up. You don’t need an intestinal blockage right away.

Sooo cute!
I never name my pets until I've had them at home for a bit and see their personalities.
We have a Rocky (cat), Crash Bandicat (but we call him Bandit or Bandy...another cat), and Dixie (dog).
I seem to like names that end in an "ee" sound...I think it helps get their attention.

So adorable... no help on the name... I like the idea of trying them out
Our pup slept through the night with no crying pretty quickly.... the not peeing on the floor took a bit
Training is just as (likely more) important for the owner. Our Murphy listens to DH but knows I am the pushover.
It is loads of work but so much fun, I love to get trapped by a sleeping pup for the afternoon!!!!
Enjoy

I love Penny and Zoey. I worry I’ll go to a dog park and 10 dogs will come when I call for mine 😂😂😂. I also love Ginny. My kids wanted Ginger but I liked Ginny better. I feel like Ginny Weasly from Harry Potter has similar coloured hair 😂😂😂.
My issue is I love all 3 names. I’ll never decide. Maybe we need a totally different name that jumps at us. Love the butterscotch suggestion.

I'd hold off for the first three days. We brought our sweet little girl home and she was definitely an Ava. By day three, her name had been changed to Harley Quinn.

View AttachmentView AttachmentYep...Our rescue dog was Lilah...it didn't fit her, so we just called her "pup" for about a week, then we decided on Dixie (she had only been called Lilah for a couple weeks at the shelter...she was dumped...so she wasn't confused at all with the name change.)

She is totally adorable but not a Penny or Ginny. I was expecting her to be more copper or ginger colored when I saw those names.
Nutmeg would be my choice. Then you can decide if she is more Nutty or Meg as you live with her.

Aww, she’s very cute! Of your list I like Penny best, but I’m not sure if that’s what I would personally pick. You need to go outside and yell “Come, (name)!” a few times to see how it sounds. Both of our current dogs had existing names they came with and neither of them are good names that resonate to yell out to get them to come.

The good news is none of your names make the top 10, here is the list of top 100. www.akc.org/expert-advice/lifestyle/top-100-girl-dog-names/I have a male dog and named him Quincy, but his name has morphed into Quincy Jones half the time so I’m kind of a fan of the two names like Penny Lane. It just seems to roll off the tongue when you are sweet talking your dog-which you totally will be.

I didn’t notice the gold with burgundy but you’re right - she screams gryffindor. I also like Ginny because it honours my beloved cat I had growing up. He was Foster, named after beer, and I feel like Ginny is also an alcohol inspired name because we could call her Gin or Gin Gin. Also, Foster was a Ginger Tabby so Ginny kind of honours my cat again in that way. Maybe picking a name that has meaning behind it is more special for me? Or is it a silly reason?

Ginny is adorable and so are the nicknames. Love it. I think the reasoning behind it makes it even more special. Not silly!
