I was specifically referring to the part where the thread on impotence being a side effect of COVID went off-track. It would be easy enough just to try to rein people in to get back on topic or start a new thread for people who want to discuss the medical aspects of the side effects of COVID. Now if you did that, and people were still tittering like schoolboys about limp dicks, then I'd think you'd be justified in complaining. Well specifically about that thread I stumbled on it after the discussion was no longer active and didn't feel it served any purpose to post and resurrect it. I made a joke about who will post black issues if I don’t and get called a savior... Let’s see how they react to your indignant idea that whatever bothers you bothers everyone else too. Again I appreciate the candor 😂

I wonder how many of us don’t even see the political tag. I probably look at this site from my phone 75% of the time. You can’t see tags on your phone, only from my laptop. I think the tag has outlived it usefulness. I read threads based on the title, not by the political tag.

I appreciate the candor. I would stew about the motives and now I can just chalk it up to ummm...predictable behavior. FTR I disagree with the “if you don’t like things, why stay” it slaps of 45 supporters telling everyone to like it or leave. If I leave who will continue posting “Black issues” Olan I appreciate you posting about "black issues". Because of your postings, I had a very good conversation with an Uber driver after witnessing subtle racism, and I learned about racism in the area I live, and what I could do to help. Thank you! I’m glad I could help!

Not sure why you quoted me. Your post doesn't seem to have any connection to what I said here. Could you just mark it political for me then please? I was being serious. I think you quoted me and you meant to quote someone else. If that isn't the case, you could have explained to me what you felt the connection was. But you went in another direction. Might I even say a predictable direction?

You are choosing ignorance right now.

So from the explanations posted, adding the political label is just being a Karen. Got it.

Maybe it’s time for that label to go away. Since clearly it is being misused. Only this far ^^^ in the thread but I agree. The politics label is clearly misused, and has been for years.

QueenoftheSloths - I don't want you to feel piled on but do you feel this is happening very often? Like multiple times a day? Weekly? Occasionally? I just don't recognise what you're seeing as much of an issue.

I just don't recognise what you're seeing as much of an issue. Don't worry, you are asking a polite question, that doesn't make me feel piled on. I would say occasionally. I occasionally mark a thread as political when it isn't talking about what the title says. Other people use the tag differently, that is their business. I have said why and when I personally use it.

How can posters not tell the difference between a politically focused discussion (Supreme Court nominee for instance) and one that is not (having the vapors that someone is discussing a tradition with dishes that happens to include vocabulary such as President and White House)? Mentioning Donald Trump’s hair in an unflattering way does not require a political label for the thread. Going in and marking it as such because you decide it should be is the same thing as calling out the incorrect usage of your/you’re. Only pettier because you don’t have to attach your name to the calling out. This is a genuine question, and I hope you can answer it as such. The board agrees that making fun of trump's hair is okay. But when a pea posted a picture of some annonymous feet from the internet and called them ugly, she got raked over the coals for shaming the annonymous feet. Can you explain the difference? I really appreciate this question and the opportunity to clarify. Short answer, I don’t know why the difference. Personally, I have a hard line and I do not make comments on appearance ever*. Here or in real life. And I occasionally make my thoughts known when people have. As much as I despise Donald Trump, my disagreement with comments about his appearance are on record. However, I still contend that is not political content. *or honestly, almost never - I have broken that rule a handful of times and should admit it (not about Trump though - there are far too many other things in line ahead of his appearance. Maybe his “dancing”, but that was in a thread already marked political)

What was the actual title of that thread? I honestly couldn't tell you. I didn't post on it because my thoughts would have been seen as handslapping so I can't find it for you. It was several months ago. I used it as an example here because it was exactly the kind of post I was talking about and it has stuck in my head because it is something that I notice.

I never knew this! And btw, I labeled this political. Feel free to unlabel. You never knew what? The reason the political label was there? Yet you went ahead and marked this political! What was political in @kendramage asking a simple question as to why another thread of hers was marked political? BTW YOU can remove the label just as easily as when YOU marked it in the first place. No need to pass that job on to anyone else. I never knew anyone could label a post. I never noticed that button. I marked it political in fun. So,...yikes.

I don’t have an answer to the question because you’ve made some sweeping generalizations that don’t seem to be based in fact. “The board” thinks? Honestly, it’s so rare that the peas all agree on anything, that we tend to remark on it in the rare case that it happens. So I’d be wary of making any generalizations of what “the board” thinks. If you have a sampling of individual peas who have mocked Trump’s hair AND hand slapped someone about their comment on a stranger’s feet, I think you should take up your complaint with them.

You occasionally mark a thread talking about politics as political when it isn’t talking about what the title says, correct? Just those. Not any random thread that doesn’t match the title anymore. Meaning a thread that asks for Netflix recommendations that devolves into every streaming service; you don’t mark that as political because it isn’t the about the title anymore, correct? Again, just asking for clarification as multiple things have been discussed here.

In your Netflix example, the conversation hasn't unexpectedly turned to ugly political bashing. So I would not tag it, I would have no reason too. But if instead of talking about other streaming services, the conversation instead became focused on bashing a conservative pea for her politically based viewing choices, I might tag that. Or I might just shake my head and think "Why can't we just have a simple conversation without this constant conflict?" And yes, I could in my example then post and say hey, can we just talk about Netflix here, but then I risk being labeled a shamer, a handslapper, etc.

I actually disagree that only the OP should mark as political - we have a ton of post and runners - especially on political threads or threads that turn political. I've absolutely added the label when a thread turns political and really don't think it's that hard to figure out when a thread turns political. We have been in a hyper political environment for quite some time that has only become worse in the last few months. I'm hopeful that it will not be as needed in the future as more threads will be obviously political and created to actually discuss politics instead of devolving into a discussion of politics as many have in the past.

But in reality it is not ok to pick on someone’s appearance, even if they are one of the most hated figures in the world.

My example: I started a thread about my principal giving us a book, meant to be used for a required book study, as a Christmas gift. The book itself could be considered political (although I don’t even think it was. It was about equity, which I don’t consider political). But the thread was about whether it was cool of her to give a gift that actually felt like work (it WAS work). Not the subject of the book. Someone marked it political...and after I unmarked it political, they marked it political again. What right did they have to do that?

And there are dozens and dozens of posters who have stated over and over again that they prefer to know if a thread is political which is why the label was created in the first place. That they would like to have the option to avoid those thread. It's for those peas that I add the label. Clearly like most things on 2peas, other people use the board differently. I make zero effort to avoid political threads, so really don't care if it's a label or not.

I went to look at your thread as I didn't recall it - the discussion on why people are equating racism/equity with politics is completely separate imo. There wasn't any politics at all on that thread, so have no idea why someone would have added the label. ETA I should acknowledge I didn't participate in that thread at all, so perhaps there was something earlier that has been subsequently deleted? I haven't a clue, because as it stands now, no one even threw a random politicians name in there from what I could see.
